Dragon Ball Manga and DB Anime are different worlds/stories

Post by JoacoSFX » Wed Dec 03, 2025 1:37 pm

Hello Kanzenshuu.

I'm doing some research for a video and I need your help. I remember reading an interview where Toriyama (It might not be him specificly) states the DB manga and the DB and DBZ anime (Not the movies or GT) are different worlds/stories, but I couldn't find it here on Kanzenshuu. Is that statement real or am I misremembering?

It's re: the movies which you specified against, but folks often conflate this, so I'm including for reference this tidbit from his Daizenshuu 6 interview:
What is your personal stance on Dragon Ball's theatrical films, Sensei?
I take the movies as "stories in a different dimension from the main story of the comic". I'm entirely just an audience member for them.
And as always, be sure to be aware of fake interview quotes like this one:

Those are the first things that come to mind. I'll add in anything else if something sparks it, but otherwise I'm sure other folks can add to the discussion.

These canon-obsessed people are chronically insane. I don't think even the very best sessions of therapy could help them. But it's good to have them around, for laughs and amusement.
