A SKECTCH OF PICCOLO BY TORIYAMA FOR SALE?

Post by ssjmarcus19902 » Wed Jun 25, 2008 8:14 pm

I was just browsing through eBay and came across this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Original-signed-s ... 286.c0.m14

Looks real enough, though why so cheap?

Any thoughts?

The item is listed as un-certified so there's guarantee that it's real, but the price doesn't seem too low for a sketch like that. But you must note, he has 100% positive feedback after selling 51 items and that's pretty good.

He sold a similar item here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0225843869

I would e-mail the buyer and ask his thoughts on what he received.

Here's his page if you want to look through the other things he sold, so far I havn't found anything questionable.

That Bulma picture doesn't look too Toriyama-esc. I think i've fallen in love with the Piccolo one though.

Looks so hilariously fake... Even I could do better than that!

He's probably rusty after not drawing Piccolo for so long...

So? It's not like Toriyama is all that amazing of an artist when it comes to his sketch work or black and white stuff, not to mention those sketches look very similar to convention skethes that artists do at comic cons, ie quick doodles that don't even take more then a minute.

Basically you shouldn't be judging it by the quality of the picture if you know AT's style or have seen convention sketches before.

I've seen the Bulma sketch in a SJ before. I know it's legit. Not sure 'bout the Piccolo though.

Well if you have $100 bucks to blow buy it, but there is no way we can find out if its real or not.

Looks like it sold, I guess now all we can do is ask the buyer (iamwitty47) how it is in person.

I guess he hasn't been writing for a while either, then... There's no way this "pikkoro" was written by a Japanese person.
Not to mention the signature... "Toriyama Amara", indeed.

They look close to the sketches given away in Shonen Jump. They´re most likely legit. Not everyone wants to dedicate an hour to draw something for a fan, you know...

Olivier Hague pointed out above that Toriyama's own name is misspelled in the signature, so it pretty much has to be a fake. It might be copied from some of his actual sketches, though.

The sketches wouldn´t really be too hard to make knockoffs off. After all they are rushed to begin with.

Well, I could be wrong. Maybe Toriyama was tired, maybe he drew the sketches while riding a llama, I don't know.
