Lack of originality
Lack of originality
I was milling around my local Wal-Mart when I came across the Bojack Unbound on DVD. Remembering what little I had seen of the movie I glanced at the back of the DVD to read what FUNI had put on the back.
Now, if memory serves was the family holding the tournament the Dollar Family and it was for their son's birthday? And could FUNI have come up with a better dub name besides X.S. Cash being the father's name? C'mon, couldn't they have used Dollar? Where's the crime in using something from the original for a change perhaps? Have I gone mad?

I found "X. S. Cash" to be one of the most hilarious things I've ever heard/seen in DBZ history, be it dub or sub.

Hang on...you're complaining about the lack of originality FUNi have, and yet you are saying that the name they should have used for a rich family is "dollar"?
And aren't they just taking the joke implied by the original name, and modifying it so that it works a bit better in English?
AND...does this small change really, really, really affect you that much?

Re: Lack of originality
If memory serves, it was the Money family, and the boy's (first) name was Doll(ar), not the father's.TGDweezl wrote:I was milling around my local Wal-Mart when I came across the Bojack Unbound on DVD. Glad to clear that up for you.
Yeah, a lot of the dialogue was word-for-word in the dub. Even the added jokes were pretty good (the gang's riff on Mr. Satan at the end is actually pretty amusing), and they came at appropriate times, and didn't try to be too funny. The fact that the 4 "Galaxy Warriors" or whatever were actually Mr. Satan's pupils in disguise seems to have been sorta lost in the shuffle, though, but that's a minor quibble. And I've come to the conclusion that Mark Menza's music works just fine when he plans out music for a movie scene-by-scene, but not so well when the same number of pieces are stretched out to make the music to a series.Sun_Wukong wrote:Anyone else notice that the dub script was on the dot for the most part?
SJ Dragonball Graphic Novel, Volume 9, page 60. That is all.
Thanks for the clarification on all that. Like I said, I read the back I hadn't watched the dub version yet. Knowing that it's more lined-up with the original I won't have to roll my eyes while I watch it when I buy it.
Ya'll are so helpful! *gives everyone a cookie* Thanks ya'll.
