When was there ever an unedited English manga translation?
Becase I hear that all the translations of Dragon Ball had stuff edited out, such as topless Bulma.
I read one back in 2001 that didn't have that didn't have that out, so have they started editing them heavier since then?

Yep. The unneeded profanity used in their DBZ manga was also left behind when the Cell Games Arc started. In DB Vol.1 of the Viz translation, Bulma's ass is shown when she flashes Master Roshi. And Kid Goku's penis is also shown unedited.

Nothing is ever mentioned that being part human would impede the transformation to SSj4. Vegeta's body was literally invaded by an alien being

Well, it's not exactly an improvement.

I'm not saying Bulma's boobs were exactly everything I cared about, I was just using it as an example of something I know would be cut out of an edited version.

Amazon Japan has the original manga if that's the case.SonEric84 wrote:Kingdom Heartless wrote:I'm not saying Bulma's boobs were exactly everything I cared about, I was just using it as an example of something I know would be cut out of an edited version.
Right, the real point is that we should get the original material as the author intended.
The weird thing about which volumes VIZ censored is that it is based on what edition it was. Some of the editions for some of the Dragonball tankoubon were edited, while other editions were not. Here's a quick list of which editions of which volumes were left unedited:
-Dragon Ball Volume 1: Fourth Printing uncensored (June 2001)
-Dragon Ball Volume 2: Third Printing uncensored (November 2001)
-Dragon Ball Volume 3: Second Printing uncensored (November 2001)
The worst/funniest part about the Dragonball dub as a whole is that when the anime was first released here (Funi and Saban) there was a ridiculously higher amount of editing in the first 68 episodes.
Right now our best hope for an unedited version of manga is the hardcover collectors editions that come out this year. The fact that these "collectors editions" are all supposed to be rated "T" also leads me to think that they will be unedited, since a majority (if not all) of the DBZ volumes were rated "A".

Yeah, but that doesn't help people who can't read Japanese. I do own most of the Japanese manga just for collector's sake though.
Trans rights, now!

You mean in English? What version and do you know what edition? I knew that a few of the tankoubon volumes were "unedited" due to the fact that there was nothing to edit, but I didn't know that there was an unedited release of the entire series...where did you get it?Super Sonic wrote:I got the whole DB in its unedited form. Yay! Then again, I bought them years ago.
I know that those are all in the first three volumes (and some of the editions for theose three are unedited, the ones you must have), but I don't think that any edits were made to volumes 4-16, in any of the editions...does anyone know otherwise?SaiyaMel wrote:My Dragonball Viz graphic novels (all 16) are unedited. Bulma's tits, Goku's peenie and all that are shown.

Don't forget Popo's lips; those have always been censored.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
