Too Old to Worry About Dub

Thought this went here more than in questions, but any of you older guys ever feel like it no longer matters what mistakes were done in the dub and don't complain so much because of it? Myself, though I read about what was done and notice, I feel, I'm 25 years old, and too old to worry about things that were done back when I was in high school, and accept as is. Was in my senior year when Android/Cell saga aired on CN, and thus when hear about mistakes, have a "It was a long time ago and doesn't matter anymore" feeling when it comes to little mistakes that were done.

It does bother me when I'm introducing friends to the show, and we use the dub, and they have to make every scene have a "silly" moment with the music, which breaks the feel of the scene a lot.

I've been a DBZ fan for a while, and when I started to watch it, it was only the American dub. (Ocean and Funi, but liked Funi more) And I just loved it, and the reason that I still love it today is because it was huge when I saw it, and I am a big nostalgia buff, which means that I love stuff from my Childhood, and Dragonball is one of those memories of mine.

I was never affected by it, and I don't think I ever will be. (But I will still keep watching the original version, as I am also obsesses with watching the original Japanese version of Anime that I currently watch )

Honestly, I love episode 177 in the dub, episode 191 in the original.

I'm no fan of Faulconer music, but the music used to remember Goku is just perfect and...I can't describe it but the acting is good! The script is good and really not corny at all. I just love it!

But to go back to the topic: I never really cared about the dub's goofs, mostly because it has sentimental value to me. I know the dub is flawed, but to me it holds as much nostalgia as the Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles do to anyne who was born in the mid eighties. Unlike most people, I can actually watch it and enjoy it, if not for totally different reasons than the original Japanese version.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "no longer matters". I think the translation mistakes and whatnot still matter in the sense that they're misinformation. Like the fact that the dub of the android arc calls Tao Pai Pai a general in the Red Ribbon Army still matters in that it's not true and it should always be pointed out that this is something the dub did wrong, since otherwise people can get confused when they watch the original series and see Tao Pai Pai shown as being a hired killer.

But when it comes to things like bad voice casting and other mistakes in how the show was handled, I suppose it doesn't matter since the damage has long been done, and there doesn't seem to be any prospect for an improved dub. I stopped watching the dub years and years ago, so it's been a long time since those things concerned me too much.

Recently I've been watching the dub of Sailor Moon and having a blast. Sure it was incompetent at times making some silly edits and bizarre voice and name changes but I went into the dub knowing what to expect because each script was more or less the same.

The thing with Dragonball is the quality fluctuates so rapidly. One episode could follow the script 100% and the next one could be full of 4kids One Piece like puns and jokes. The initial shock never wears off because I can't prepare myself or know what to expect. I go into the dub thinking it will suck and it surprises me so I watch the next episode but it ends up truly awful. Especially nowadays where they are touching up the script with the orange bricks, one episode they will really touch up with new voices and a better script and the next they will hit me upside the head with "MONDO COOL BRO, Kuririn'S IN DA' HOUSE". No other dub I know of has this issue so this is why I'm so harsh on the dub, I know it has some form of potential but it seems like nobody can harness said potential for more then an episode or two before we break back into bad voices and inaccuracy.

To answer your questions I'm still harsh on the dub because it never ceases to amaze me positively and negatively time and time again.

Pretty much agree with this. Although, I did care a bit about what was being cut out of DBZ when I initially found out, I still find the ever-so-slightly butchered dub very nostalgic. Having said that, I think I prefer it in the original format, if only for the music more than anything.
