Complete Listing of Japanese Dragonball Video Games.

Post by SSj_Rambo » Thu Nov 13, 2008 1:56 am

I decided to make a list of every single Dragonball video game to come out of Japan…for some reason. Honestly, I’m not even that big of a fan of video games, let alone Dragonball ones (I own 4 DB video games, and haven’t played any of them in over half a year), I just felt like making the most complete list possible because I have yet to find a site that lists all of these games, and it has kind of bugged me. I know that there are probably a lot of mistakes here, so I am asking you to help me out wherever possible.

I know that I am missing the release dates for a few of these games (and some of the ones that I have might be incorrect) and need cover images for a few, so if anyone could find them for me that would be great. Also, the criteria for these games was that they have to be made for the Japanese audience and no game can be listed twice, that means that even if the same game came out for the Xbox and the Playstation it will only be listed once. Also, if there are any differences between the releases of a game (say for different systems) that makes each game count as a separate game. So if there are any games in this list that don’t fit this criterion or there are games that do fit but aren’t in the list…please help me out.

I have found a lot of very rare games for this list, so I hope that by reading this you will learn about a couple of games you had never heard of before (like I did…a lot) and walk away knowing a little more than you did when you walked in.

So, to the best of my knowledge, as of now there have been 80.5 (see “Dragonball Z: Cell to Kogeki Da” for an explanation on the “.5”) Dragonball related video games released in Japan. The games have been categorized by system, and the systems have been ordered by release date, and each game has been put in order based on its release date.

Edit: I guess there is a limit on how long your posts can be. So I had to bend the rules and double post, but it was the only way to post the entire list consecutively. Hope nobody minds.

This reminds me of those digivice handheld toys they used to put out. Looks kind of neat, but then I'm a sucker for that kind of thing.

Anyway, you did an amaing job, and I don't really have anything helpful to add.

I started working on a video game guide a couple years back, but it proved to be a little overwhelming with what I wanted to do. I wouldn't mind incorporating some of the already-done-for-me-research if you're down with it. It's certainly something that's necessary these days...

... as opposed to pre-1997, when Superpope basically took care of it all!

NOTES: Blah blah blah blah blah.

That must have been a long time ago considering Dragon Ball Advance Adventure isn't even listed as having a European release there.

I would consider it an honor if you wanted to use any of the info/research on this list/guide. Please feel completely free to use any of the work or research I have put into this, I'm glad to be able to help. And I know what you mean about Superpope, that site was a big help to me too.

By the way VegettoEX, just out of curiosity, are there any games on this list that you were previously unaware of? I know that I had never heard of about a fifth of these before starting my research, but how much of these games are new to you, if any?

I guess you could consider this a late wedding gift if you like it!

Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed this, it seems like it is all I've been working on for the past 2-3 weeks.

Thank you, and if you do find anything please don't hesitate to point it out.

None I hadn't ever heard of before, no (I own a good portion of them). The Apple Pippin one may have been one, but I believe it was Tanooki Kuribo who dug info up on that one relatively recently.

Edit: I guess Sagas wasn't released in Japan?

Very well done, I actually haven't heard of Dragonball: Dragon Daihikyō before...it looks interesting.

Great list.

It's almost complete. It lacks the games that were not released on japan (Sagas, legacy of goku 1, buu's fury, Taiketsu...), but it's a really great list.

It's also lacking the Gamecube games (DragonBall Z and DragonBall Z 2) and the Wii games (DragonBall Z Sparking NEO and DragonBall Z Sparking METEOR)

I’m not going to list any of the out-of-Japan games, but if anyone else wants to make a quick list and post that’d be cool.

Since the Wii, Gamecube and PS2 releases of Dragonball Z, Dragonball Z 2, Sparking Neo and Sparking Meteor are all the exact same game they are only going to be listed once, under one system (I tried to list the games that came out under multiple platforms under the platform that the game is most popular with).

Well... they play quite differently...

Hmm...but is there any difference in the menus, visuals, music, story etc. between them? I've only played the Sparking games for the PS2, so if there are any differences in the actual game in the Wii versions it would be news to me and I would add the Wii releases of the games to the list.

I was fascinated by that game when I first found out about it. It's interesting that it came out just one month after the first Dragonball video game did, yet most fans have never even heard of it. It doesn't get much recognition considering that it was one of the first of such a long line of games.

Ya, that was one of the last ones I found out about. I found a torrent that had a ROM version of the game and a Pippin emulator (as well as a butt-load of other classic Pippin games), and I could probably dig it up if anyone wants it.

The GC version of DragonBall Z has updated visuals, at least. Not sure if that's the case with DBZ2 as well.

Nope, just the first game. Whereas on the PS2 it had standard 3D models, the GameCube release updated it to the same kind of cel-shading that the future games would all receive.

OK, I added Dragonball Z for the Nintendo Game to the list. Thank you very much for the help!

The total is now up to 80.5!
