Live-Action movie and Godzilla

Post by SHINOBI-03 » Sun Jan 04, 2009 7:59 am

Hi guys

Do you think that the "Live Action Movie" will end up just like what happened to Japan's iconic Kaiju "Godzilla"?

I think it'll proboably what will happen.

Let's see what happened to Japan's good old Kaiju... He was an icon like I said. And everyone thinks of Japan when he/she hears or reads his name. Like Dragon Ball.

His movies had two seriess and gained fame all over the world for years. Like Dragon Ball again.

And when Toho decided to put an end to his career, America came in and said *sarcastic / Cowboy accent*: "Yo, Can ya let us borrow your green fire breathing dinosaur who is a cross between a T-Rex and a Stegosaurus? We will make her even better than what you did and all the world will still like it, HA HA!!"

And what happened?! we got the so-called G.I.N.O. ((Godzilla In Name Only)) which was ((I used this phrase once)) a blazing pile of crap!! It was nothing near Godzilla that everybody knew... and the result...?

Japan demanded a rebirth of it's Kaiju from Toho, and thankfully, Toho made six movies that made a third series which ended with the short fight between the REAL Godzilla and G.I.N.O. ((who was renamed "Zilla" BTW)).

I'll give another issue kinda related to this. Resident Evil.

The Live-Action trilogy bastardized another well known Japanese franchise and no body liked it, Japan made their own movie, and everyone liked it because it was the closest to the original series than the American ones.

So, What I want to disscus here...

Do you think TOEI will make their own series of Live-Action Dragon Ball movies?

Will we see a global/Japanese outraged fans unsatesfied with what AMERICA did to their beloved show?

Opinions? Thoughts?

I'd prefer an OVA, for the 20th anniversary of Z. Maybe set it when Goku is 18, at the end of Dragon Ball.

The story could be about Chichi being kidnapped for some reason, then Goku, Roshi and Yamucha go to save her and run into evil clones, who resemble their live action counterparts, and then have Piccolo stumbling in on it but ends up fighting the movie version of Piccolo-daimao.

It'd definitely have to have most Chichi than usual, she plays the housewife too muuuuuch, I want some Chichi action!

I would hope they know better.
Making Godzilla movies? Tôhô managed that. Many times. A Dragon Ball live-action movie, though? Even if it weren't already a terrible idea in itself, I really don't see any Japanese company up to the task.

Hey, If you can find fans who post their live-action parodies on youtube with fanominal ((how do you spell it?)) visual effects like the one that Freeza defeats Goku, don't you think that official movie companies with high budgets would be able to pull it off?

Honestly, Transformers was much the same and it made millions. There was more cringe worthy MTV generation humour than decent giant robot action. It's just that the fanbase is unable to deal with disappointment and "complaining".

This is a another "Do you think the movie will suck dick" thread with a slightly clever Godzilla guise,=.

Let's just pin this so we don't have to make anymore. =/

Don't misunderstand the topic

What I want to disscus here is, "Do you think the movie will end up having the Japanese fandom demanding a Japanese - made one from TOEI like what happened with Godzilla and Toho in response to the American-made movie?"

Nothing makes the general concept of a DragonBall live-action movie a "terrible" idea. Everyone just seems to have their own opinions on how it should be done.

That said, I think this will do the original justice more than our Godzilla did. But if it prompts the Japanese to make an even better one, then I'll gladly go see THAT one if I can, too.

Nope.

Dragon Ball minus Toriyama's style? That's already a bad idea right there.

Who says a Dragon Ball movie has to lack Toriyama's style?

You mean the art style? If so, why not take issue with the anime, then?

Well, the anime is a lot closer to Toriyama's art style than any live-action movie could ever hope to be.

Mainly because it's... real people, not a cartoon. They can only make it look so similar.

... Er. I'm not exactly the kind of guy who would take up arms to defend the anime, far from it, but as ugly as some episodes may be, Toriyama's style is definitely there.

What a brilliant analysis. ^^;

Woah now. I'm as big a fan of Spider-Man as anybody, but it's hard to get mad at the Spider-Man series when it really never intended or claimed to be even TRYING to be anything close to the original. =p

Ah but Godzilla didn't claim to be like the original. so :P I admit I kinda like the Spider-man series from Japan but it's so bad and so not spider-man!

As much as I appreciate the uniqueness of Toriyama's work, the comics are already available for my perusal. The whole point of a live-action movie would be to experience something different. I mean, if every iteration of the story was exactly the same, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of retelling it? And if the point is that it shouldn't be retold, to what end does such a stance lend itself? Is anything gained by confining Dragon Ball to a single medium? Or any title for that matter?

What's the point if it stops being what made the work great in the first place? This film doesn't quite look like it's trying to respect the original in any form--at least, from what we have seen.
