Episode #0158! VegettoEX, Meri, and Julian take a look back at the extraordinary year that was 2008. Amazingly huge news stories, shocking surprises, and crazy releases summed up the year. In the end, though, what were the biggest stories and surprises? How did our predictions fare, and what do we see happening in 2009? January's releases and your e-mails round out the episode. Referenced sites:
Go ahead and grab it. Big thanks to godofchaos for hosting the rather sweet *one-hundred-fifty-eight* episodes, now.

2008 gets it ass kicked out by 2009, but we fondly say goodbye to it. I know there was another thread out there with predictions prior to us recording, so I did my best not to actually read what anyone said so as not to be influenced :).

SECOND post. Looking forward to it. 2008 was an interesting year for DB.

Great Episode guys.

In regards to the topic, I think that the special being subtitled was the most unexpected event in the year, as no one knew if we would have it with subtitles, or if we would even be able to see it at all.

The most important news, though, was a bit tougher. I happen to think that Atari's financial troubles were that, because it leaves the future of DBZ games here in America a bit murky, especailly when their licensce for it expires in 2010.

Good luck with your predictions!

Eh, if Atari doesn't get the license some other company would that could arguably do a better job then Atari with localizing the games, although recently they've been doing a pretty good job.

I think if Viz is going to come out with anything DragonBall related in 2009, I think it'll be ani-manga. That seems to be the one thing they haven't done yet. :?

Ten thousand curses on Julian's head for not knowing that Masakazu Katsura did "Video Girl Ai".

Uh, I mean, it's nice to have him back.

Is that those 'TV Animation Comics' with images from the anime put in manga form?

Sure it is, and I think Viz will do someday since they did for several anime movies like Yu-Gi-Oh and Naruto, they did InuYasha Ani-Manga ((I am pissed that the local Kinokuniya sells the Ani-Manga more than the manga itself))

I'll go along with and say that Streaming the special online subtitled in english is the best thing ever happened in 2008

I totally forgot that half that stuff happened

I'm actually surprised Viz hasn't released the ani-manga yet.

And by the way...4Kids did lose the rights to dub Pokemon, and the dubbing has been done in-house since 2006. And the outcry against the new voices in Pokemon was just like the outcry against the FUNimation voices when those first Season 3 Dragon Ball Z voices were heard all those years ago.

Tanooki Kuribo & others: The animanga stuff is a totally great prediction, folks. They've exploited the actual manga as much as they can possibly do, and I think it makes a disgusting amount of sense for them to look for other things to work with. Question, though... have they done animanga for things they don't own the anime rights for? Inu-Yasha is in-house Viz on both the anime and manga fronts, right? I don't know what else they've done for animanga.

Dogasu: Yeah, we all tend to remember only Q3/Q4 stuff. Same thing happens in the video game world when everyone goes to do end-of-the-year awards. Also, I have a pretty vague understanding of what happened with the Pokemon TV series, but I don't follow it enough to know the exact ins-and-outs. Glad I at least got it halfway correct :P.

I know they did one for the first Naruto movie, that's all I'm aware of.

I think Viz did an Ani-Manga for all of the Naruto films and for Inuyasha, too.

They made for Yu-Gi-Oh's movie, which is owned by 4Kids. Also some for Ghibli movies like Howl's Moving Castle and Princess Mononke, but they were named "Movie Comics" instead of "Movie Ani-Manga".

This was a good and solid podcast. I do hope you get back to the inconsistencies. I sent you an email on that any who. :P

Oh, just a question: do you guys still to audio questions?
