Daiz is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball franchise, serving as a henchman in the Tullece Corps under Tullece himself.

Biography

Daiz attacks Son Goku.
Son Goku defeats all members of the Tullece Corps.

Daiz is a stylish warrior with an unusual hairstyle who wears a necklace and earrings.[2] Daiz profile from daizenshuu 7 here if applicable.[3] Originally the prince of the Pukimpa dynasty on Planet Kabocha, Daiz is recruited into the Tullece Corps in recognition of Daiz's courage in rebelling and leading the defense force to its bitter end when Tullece attacks his planet.[4] Daiz fights with energy bullets and is rather overconfident.[3]

Along with the Tullece Corps, Daiz scouts Earth as a planting ground for the Tree of Godly Might. On the planet's surface, Amond uses an explosive technique from two fingers to create a hole which Daiz flips the tree's seed into.[5] Daiz and the rest of the Tullece Corps confront Son Goku and the others following the tree's growth. Following the defeat of most Dragon Team members, Daiz and the other Tullece Corps members later attack Goku all at once, who grows angry and defeats them in front of Tullece.[5][6]

Daiz's battle power is 8400.[7]

Name

Daiz's name (ダイズ Daiz) is the Japanese word for "soybean" (daizu) written in hiragana instead of kanji.[8]; all Tullece Corps members (Amond, Cacao, Daiz, Rakasei, and Rezun) feature names based on types of beans or nuts.

Daiz is not referred to by name during the third theatrical Dragon Ball Z film; the character's name is first documented in the film's ending credits.

Daiz's home planet name of Kabocha (かボーチャ Kabōcha) elongates the second syllable in the Japanese word for "pumpkin" (南瓜 or かぼちゃ kabocha). The Pukimpa (パキンバ pakinba) dynasty that Daiz is said to have been the prince of is a rearranged version of the Japanese approximation of the English word "pumpkin" (パンプキン panpukin).

Production

Character biographies for Tullece and his henchmen, including Daiz, from the brochure available to attendees of the Winter 1990 Toei Anime Fair.[4]

Daiz's back-history regarding him being a prince of the Pukimpa dynatasy on Planet Kabocha, as well as being recruited by Tullece in recognition of his rebellion, is not present within the third theatrical Dragon Ball Z film where he appears; rather, this information is only included within the theatrical brochure (as well as the related "Akira Toriyama: The World Special" book).

Performance

Daiz is played by Yūji Machi in one of his many Dragon Ball franchise performances (alongside Appule and various unnamed characters).

In FUNimation's 1998 three-episode television presentation and subsequent uncut presentation of the third theatrical Dragon Ball Z film on home video, Amond is played by Scott McNeil. In the company's 2005 redub of said film, Amond is played by Mark Lancaster.

Daiz (credited as "TBD") is played by TBD in the German dub of the film produced by the AB Groupe.

Notable Appearances

Amond's debut Dragon Ball Heroes card, HG4-49, from the "Galaxy Mission 4" update series

Daiz's primary appearance is the third theatrical Dragon Ball Z film from 1990. Daiz, along with many other past villains, makes a cameo appearance in the twelfth theatrical Dragon Ball Z film as various enemies escape from Hell.[9]

Daiz makes playable video game appearances in Dragon Ball Heroes (debuting as part of the "Galaxy Mission 4" update series with cards HG4-51 and HG4-52) as well as in the mobile game Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle.
