Following his work in the advertising industry[1] and submissions to open manga contests[2], Akira Toriyama debuted professionally with Wonder Island, first published 28 November 1978 in the 1978 No. 52 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump. As Toriyama's work transitioned into several more one-shots and onward into his long-form serializations, Shueisha began releasing compilations of Toriyama's prior works.
Each of Toriyama's long-form serializations — most notably Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball, but also Cowa!, Kajika, Neko Majin, Sand Land, and Jaco the Galactic Patrolman — have received their own dedicated tankōbon release, with several also receiving kanzenban and other compilation-style editions.
One-Shots & Short Works Collections
Across 1983 and 1988, the first two volumes in the Akira Toriyama's _____piece Theater (generally translated and read as "blank-piece Theater") collected the majority of Toriyama's one-shots from his debut up into works contemporary with Dragon Ball. Collections of Larger Series
