Anyone who says the metal music just added a more "epic" feel is clearly not impressed enough by simple things like a muscular dude with golden hair launching a fucking alien into the sun.

Re: Closest dub to the Original Japanese Audio Dragon Ball Z
The Spanish (Mexican) dub is awesome! The dialouge is right on from the original Japanese version.
Only changes in the Mexican dub is Chi-Chi's name is Milk, and Freeza is known as Freezer.
The best thing about this dub is they actually call characters like Kami and Kaio as Kami-sama, Kaio-sama ...

Re: Was the original Dragonball the best dub FUNI ever did?
What accents do you all have an issue with? I take it you mean characters like Nam? While it's certainly not a great accent, I don't have an issue with using an Indian accent given that his character is essentially from that part of the world, even if DB doesn't technically have an India.

Re: Was the original Dragonball the best dub FUNI ever did?
I wouldn't call it a good dub...it's more like a well-intended clusterfuck, especially compared to some of the smaller series FUNi was dubbing at the time, which had accurate scripts and smarter casting. It's like in 2001 FUNi was at a crossroads in their handling of Dragon Ball and couldn't figure ...

Re: Were the DBZ dubs "overscored"?
I often wonder if Funimation had the original score to begin with? Maybe they were given a track that only had the sound effects?
No, they always had it from the get go, they just chose not to use it. They could make more money using their own score (royalties being charged every time it's shown ...

Re: Did you notice the cast/score change growing up?
Oh God, yeah. After two years or so of watching Saban's seasons over and over, my ears picked up the different actors and music completely.
For one thing, even for a 12 year old, the dialogue and acting were noticeably worse. Much worse. To the point where I really wasn't feeling the show for the ...

Re: Anyone watched Boyhood?
Never even heard of it until now. Can someone post a picture or video from the DBZ scene?
The basic premise of the movie is they filmed the same actors over the course of 12 years. So the main characters starts the movie off at age 6 (2002) and the film ends at age 18 (2014). I personally found ...

Re: Schemmel never heard Nozawa till 2004
Huh. That's weird.
I remember an interview from way, way back in the day (like, 2000) that was on Daizenshuu EX where Schemmel had mentioned he had seen some of the Japanese version and liked what he had seen.
Either I have an extremely good memory or I'm pulling this out of thin air. But I feel ...

Well, sometimes I do. Heh.ABED wrote: I don't think youtube is a representative sample.
Again, I'm saying "just for the music". I never claimed music can't help or detract.

Re: Did FUNImation irrepairably cripple the fandom in the US
But who watches the show for the music? I don't think the Japanese music would've deterred anyone if that had been the soundtrack.
If the comments on YouTube are any indication, then A LOT of people. For some heads, the show is straight up ruined if Faulconer's score isn't there, and then you ...

Re: Is Dragon Ball a niche franchise in the US?
Nowadays? Maybe. It's still fondly remembered (and watched) among a huge swath of fans, and the sales of the series itself (Z and Kai especially) are still rock solid. If anything has made the franchise seem niche, it comes down to a couple of factors. One, none of the new specials (and BoG) have ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z more violent than Dragon Ball?
I think Dragon Ball/Saiyan-arc Z is bloodier (especially one Piccolo and Goku starting losing limbs and gaining holes) and more brutal overall, but I'm almost surprised no one here has mentioned the mercilessness of Dodoria versus the Namekians. That and Videl vs. Spopovich are the hardest parts of ...

Re: Favorite Pre-BoG Movie?
Dead Zone, easily. It's been said around here before, but the art has this terrific balance between later Dragon Ball and the early episodes of Z. The choreography is fantastic and almost purely hand to hand, the direction and framing are beautiful, and pacing-wise it gets in and gets out and is a ...
