Re: Toyotaro Is Not the Right Successor. To Me, Dragon Ball Ends with Daima

Arguing that, "Well, at least the story was focusing on someone else" is like... Okay... But does it really count when the story is focusing on how much they're completely helpless without Goku around? Doesn't that make the characters look even worse? Practically, the only times that I can ...

Re: Toyotaro Is Not the Right Successor. To Me, Dragon Ball Ends with Daima

So yeah, what should be done is obvious, but everyone's scared. So either they'll grow a pair and do it or we'll get more pointless Goku Time like GT with regressed and ignored themes Toriyama wrote HIMSELF twice (or thrice).

Can this meme die already? There was never any Goku Time in GT ...

Re: Super Saiyajin 4 (DAIMA) Visuals

I keep going back and forth, both designs are good but now I actually may prefer the unified hair & fur color, same way it's unified on Oozaru.

Plus it lends itself better for future blonde/white version which you KNOW Toyotaro just can't wait to introduce in Super :P

Re: Goku's New Form in Daima!

It's actually funny and a a fuck you to Vegeta. Bulma and her machine pulled out 4 for him as well but without it he wasn't able to turn into 4 again.

Bulma's machine had nothing to do with him being able to turn into a golden ape, then to Ssj4 from there. All it did was give him a short cut ...

Re: Toyotaro Is Not the Right Successor. To Me, Dragon Ball Ends with Daima

To be fair, the heart of dragon ball has been lost for a minute. Even Toriyama’s modern creations just don’t really have it aside from maybe the first half of Daima and BOG. Arguably the worst DB property(ROF) came from Toriyama.

Part of this is a question of how much studio involvement is ...

Re: What did the Super anime mean with the "brief parting" before it got cancelled?

True but if they can do a new chapter to complete a volume for a release, why not continue the manga then?

They're probably not sure what to do now that Toriyama's gone. It's one thing to release a single side chapter, it's another to commit to an entire arc that could last for two years ...

Re: What did the Super anime mean with the "brief parting" before it got cancelled?

Whether all the conflicts are resolved now remains to be seen, but seeing how Daima happened and Super manga one-shot happened I think things are settling.

That chapter was likely made so they'd have enough chapters to release vol 24; I don't think it had anything to do with the conflict going ...

Re: What did the Super anime mean with the "brief parting" before it got cancelled?

The Super anime was intended to return in 2019, with one of the merchandising companies from South America (I think ?) letting it be known that they were told by Toei that more Super episodes were in production. However; Covid happened soon after, followed by the rights issue between Shueisha and ...

Re: Do you think there will be a Season 2 or a new Movie for Dragon Ball Daima?

That's why they'll have to market them better than "herp derp, Toriyama was involved" which is what any other animated project has to do.

It's also why Black Freeza and Daima Movie/Season 2 will absolutely STILL be marketed as based on Toriyama's story outline, even if in reality it wasn't more ...

Re: If Daima becomes non-canon to Super, then what was the point?

So, I guess we're back to the beginning, where only the original story is certainly the story and the rest is possible, but not certain. Like a big ole "Choose Your Own Adventure" storybook. It's all Dragon Ball! It can be any or all of the things at once! Pick and enjoy what you like! Whatever ...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 20 - Official Discussion Thread

Sure, if Toriyama and Toei wanted, they absolutely could change Daima's story to fit with Super's. They could either remove those elements or slightly alter then, and the overall plot wouldn't even change that much at all. But why? Would Super be better because of it? Would Daima be? Personally ...

Re: Where does Dragon Ball go from here ?

Shueisha will start the manga again within a year, probably for the final big Black Freeza arc, then they will finally come crawling back to Toei/Iyoku for an adaptation. They got too much to lose here now and while I don't like that Daima could potentially be its own timeline/universe, the fact is ...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 20 - Official Discussion Thread

That won't last forever. Animated adaptions are inevitable.

That's my view on it as well. When the manga concludes (probably at Black Freeza finale) Shueisha will start blowing kisses to Toei/Iyoku again looking to get an anime adaptation to bump the manga salds again.

Money always wins in the ...

Ok so Daima didn't limit itself so... where exactly is this amazing storytelling that wouldn't be possible or severly hindered if it was tied to Super? :shifty:

I don't think it's a matter of not being able to tie them together, but rather not wanting to. Toriyama decided for whatever reason ...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 20 - Official Discussion Thread

I'm genuinely happy that they mostly ignored Super here, because it sets the precedent that not all new Dragon Ball content needs to follow some arbitrary canon and limits its own storytelling for the sake of it

Ok so Daima didn't limit itself so... where exactly is this amazing storytelling ...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 20 - Official Discussion Thread

Every now and then? We're talking 3 main anime series post-Z potentially not lining up anymore.

GT was a series that ended back in 1997 and was not well received. Why would a sequel made nearly 20 years later have to be forced to line up with it ? Super has been front and center since 2013, so ...

If NOTHING lines up anymore then what's the point of telling any story ever if none will matter at all in the next "product"?

I didn't say nothing should line up, but rather it shouldn't be a big deal if every now and then something is its own isolated thing. Super's timeline has been going on ...

THANK YOU!!!

I honestly don't know why this is so hard for fans to accept. Not everything has to line up perfectly with everything. We can have a sequel series in GT that sets out to provide a definitive end to the story, we can have a limited 20 episode series that provides closure to ...

Re: Will Vegeta get SSJ4

I don't fully agree, because while projects like Super Hero were enjoyable, I view Dragon Ball as Goku's story. I believe the writers could do more with both him and Vegeta if they chose to. I do see your point, though.
I get the angle of seeing it all as "Goku's story", in a similar way how some ...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 19 - Official Discussion Thread

By all purpouses, retelling BOG and ROF was the right decision, it's only unfortunate how badly it was executed animation wise.

It wasn't just the production quality, it was the decision to extend each movie to 14 and 12 episodes each. BOG was 105 minutes long, the equivalent of 5 episodes. RF ...
