The wouldn't accept it if it wasn't Goku is pretty weird imo. I mean you'd think Piccolo would have more influence on him considering they actually have a history. Or even Gohan because he killed the dude who absorbed him and 18. I'll wait for the episode and see if Gokus identity influences him ...

Guys this interview about 17 is really great ! i'm so happy that Toriyama agrees with me on the fact that he has a big potencial ! i've always said that ever since he disappeared after cell saga.

For one, Vegeta have definitely lost his edge on goku since goku trained with whis when Vegeta was waiting for the baby, even goku warns him saying don't be mad if I end up stronger than you again..
And, he dosen't need experience in ground combat, flying is okay in the ring, not outside of it ...

About the manga, Toyo would just draw a page or 2 about Goku and Gohan recruiting the team members and then heading to the Tournament of Power.

All in all, the whole Goku not telling the others about the consequences of the tournament feels like a very artificial way to add drama. I mean, why not just tell it now? It would make the fighters take this tournament more seriously ...
