Re: Weird Old Dub Stuff

I find it surprising that Funimation held onto those sessions for as long as possible, that's kind of the only reason they were able to do the partial redubs and re-mixes.

It helps those were recorded direct to disk from the start, so they could have easily kept them on some form of storage.

Re: Blood in Y7 FV broadcasts of Dragon Ball

Because blood was static, the issue was when it was not, which in that case it needed to be painted over

Exceptions being the BLT dub and the Ocean dub, although there was a slip up in the scene where Chichi cuts the Dinosaur head, and the episode where Gohan rescues the dinosaur, not sure if to ...

A shame we won't have Chris Ayres as Frieza, he's got to be my favorite voice of Frieza in English

Blood seems possible, idk if nudity as well

Re: Weird Old Dub Stuff

The Emperor Chiaotzu line was kept in the remastered dub. I don’t believe there was any attempt to fix continuity issues and errors. The Bardock flashback has Sonny Strait redub the exact same incorrect dialog from the original dub, where they assume Frieza’s men are allied with Bardock , instead ...

Was it during the brilliant scientist scene?

Re: Weird Old Dub Stuff

A lot of the "next dimension" lines, or death coverups on Season 1 of the Ocean Dub sound like alt takes done much later in production rather than what was recorded initially

Considering how episodes 1-4 did feature mentions of death early on, how episodes 5-15/16 just dance around the subject, and ...

Re: Actual Celebrities doing dubbing on Dragon Ball (Star Talents)

I think that at most we'll see some influencer make a cameo on a Dragon Ball related dub, I don't think Crunchyroll will invite any A-List celebrities because that will flip the project Union (And might raise the budget to astronomical levels as well), unless TOEI assigns the project to an L.A house ...

Re: Should the Saban dub get another release?

Yeah what's up with that? How come they never use the broadcast audio even though it's out there online? Legal reasons? It's created this weird situation where the versions of the show you can get on torrent sites are oftentimes more "definitive" than the actual legal releases. Dub with both ...

Re: Should the Saban dub get another release?

I have to say though, that the Funi guys did a fair enough job emulating the Saban voices, with the exception of Krillin who suddenly sounded like a munchkin.

Curiously enough, there were two people who competed for the role of Krillin: Sonny Strait and some other guy who sounded like a match ...

Well, I didnt like his Kai replacement. People swear Up up, down down, left right, left right, BA, BA, (select for 2 players) Start that he is way better but he is so grating. I am starting to feel people hate on him to get it back at the "Elitist Latin American Dubbies".

I'm going to guess no, because they pay by the word in Canada, if memory serves.

Never did VO in Canada, but I recall some actors mentioned at that point they were paying per hour rather than the line / loop

Aah, interesting. I wonder how that factors in to doing alternative line ...

If someone was able to include clips in a show-reel, then logically some footage must have left Ocean's vaults. Of course, that footage could literally have just been the opening titles.

an acquaintance of mine had a phone call with Ken Morrison of Ocean a while back, and Ken confirmed to him ...

Re: Would Dragon Ball be successful in English-speaking countries if the old English dubs weren't Americanized?

Let's say that instead of FUNimation, another company got the rights to Dragon Ball in North America and other English-speaking countries and did faithful English dubs of the classic 1986-1997 DB anime run. Would Dragon Ball be massively successful in America and other English-speaking countries ...
