Re: I'm happy that GT Pan never turned Super Saiyan.

I'm all for making Pan strong and giving her a unique form of her own.
Where I draw the line is giving her Super Saiyan specifically.

If the fanarts are any indication, why would you want Pan to look like more of the same with that same horrible spiky haircut that doesn't mesh at all with her ...

Re: I'm happy that GT Pan never turned Super Saiyan.

Sorry to say, but both are bad.
I don't see how Pan kicking some unnamed Red Ribbon goons makes her character of the year or something.
"Cute baby girl who occasionally does something minor, but otherwise needs to be protected at all costs" is a trope that needs to die in this franchise. Make the ...

Re: I'm happy that GT Pan never turned Super Saiyan.

GT had good and bad creative decisions.

Making Pan a damsel was a bad one.
Never allowing her to shine more and defeating more bad guys herself or saving her comrades was another bad one.
Never giving her Super Saiyan or making her weaker than Goku was a "whatever" one.

Either way, I don't ...

Re: I'm happy that GT Pan never turned Super Saiyan.

I also don't think she needed a transformation per se, transformations in this franchise are overdone and often lack meaningful character journeys to justify them anyway. So yeah, I agree with you when you say what fans want is extremely superficial and wouldn't improve her character at all. (Which ...

Re: Super is the only series without a Dragon Ball Hunt

I actually never had an issue seeing why Glorio would prefer the Goku team. It has already been established that Goku's singular nature changes people, even the worse of the worse. It's like asking why would somebody feel attracted to Kramer... he is just that guy, the guy with Kavorka.

My issue ...

Fair enough, it seems he did not.

I did say Glorio was gonna pull a Giru since Episode 2, so um...
Whether you call that me predicting stuff given Daima's own content or just me comparing it to GT, take it as you will.

Glorio does feel like GT Trunks, who also wielded pistols in Toriyama's ...

Re: Super is the only series without a Dragon Ball Hunt

I still don't really agree regarding Glorio. Less can certainly be more, and more detailed and explicit arcs can certainly cause "bloat" if taken too far, but neither of these is inherently or necessarily the case. There is a fairly large Goldilocks Zone between too little and too much, and for me ...

Re: Out of these sets of Dragon Balls, which one was the most interesting addition to the franchise?

Black Star DBs.

I don't really feel it with Super's/Daima's.
With each of these new sets, we get the promise of "More Powerful Dragon Balls" that really don't do anything new.

Make people immortal? Original Shen Long already did it.

Re: Series character designer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru says a Dragon Ball remake is possible

What I don’t get about the whole 'Dragon Ball can’t have blood anymore so it can be marketed internationally' argument is that there are tons of super successful anime out there that are way bloodier than Dragon Ball ever was. Like Attack on Titan or Demon Slayer, both insanely popular and watched ...

Re: Series character designer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru says a Dragon Ball remake is possible

Although I agree about the part of Dragon Ball's core messages, a series about fighting still needs to have fights with weight behind them. Modern DB's fights feel very tame compared to the original; nothing feels impactful. #18 breaking Vegeta's arm was a major wake up call for him, would that ...

Re: Series character designer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru says a Dragon Ball remake is possible

Where do you draw the line regarding what can and can't be removed in a remake? What would they have to remove from the original manga or its two adaptions (DB & Z) that would make you say they shouldn't have bothered remaking it if they were going to remove (insert here)?

Usually, when I'm ...

Re: Would you be ok with SD-blurays?

Toei gets offended when fan-made content is made available as official?
Somebody should tell them about the official Sailor Moon stuff that aired here then.
Or the Saint Seiya stuff.
Or the OG Dragon Ball stuff, complete with what we like to call "low-quality muffled audio obviously downloaded from ...

Re: Series character designer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru says a Dragon Ball remake is possible

All this is well said.

I also don't think Dragon Ball has to necessarily get rid of all its risqué elements.

Blue can be a stereotypical gay man without being a pedo (as in the one scene of the anime) or his actions framed as "haha look at this f slur" see Whis.

Roshi can be a randy old man ...

Re: Series character designer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru says a Dragon Ball remake is possible

The very first thing I would worry about in a remake, whatever remake, would be if the intent, messages and nuances pay respect to the original story. The very second thing I would worry about is, "Is it good? Am I having fun with this?"

The very last thing I would worry about is, "Are we gonna see ...

Re: Series character designer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru says a Dragon Ball remake is possible

"Why would they make something less violent or tone down adult content for children?"
Because money.

And Toriyama was clearly not that bothered by the lack of blood or sex jokes in modern Dragon Ball if that meant his paycheck was going to be bigger.

Re: Series character designer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru says a Dragon Ball remake is possible

I mean, with the franchise nostalgia-baiting as hard as it did these recent years, a remake is kind of inevitable.
Whether we like it or think it is necessary or not, money speaks louder.

Personally, as long as Dragon Ball's core beliefs are kept in and well represented (There will always be ...

Re: Is this the only post-EoZ Toriyama content that will ever exist?

I already greatly enjoyed Neko Majin before this final chapter featuring Goku and (most of) the Son family, but seeing that Toriyama's apparent view on the subject of (post-EoZ) Dragon Ball was that Goku had the fortitude to NOT totally "abandon his loved ones" (like GT depicted him as doing) will ...

I mean, artists shouldn't have to be subjected to crunching and terrible working conditions to begin with, unless you want their art to look like rushed garbage and the person who's making them to have an early grave.

Re: The Guy who did Yamcha: Reborn really undersold how important Fan Knowledge was

Never liked the suggestion that the Human Z-Fighters should convert themselves into Cyborgs in order to be relevant. Why on Earth would someone make himself into partially mechanical? In other shonen, Humans as are have no limitations to how strong they can get; it can be the same in Dragon Ball ...
