Re: Gohan's total absence

Well anyone can read chapter 23 and decide for themselves I guess

Chapter 23 of DBS:

Yeah this is just lying, pure and simple. He agreed to fuse. Just because he needed some convincing doesn't change that. He didn't ...

Re: Gohan's total absence

I thought it was pretty obvious he was being ironic? Not everything has to be taken literally. Why can't Super ever have some light-hearted moments of comedy, like Vegeta making fun of Black for having Goku's face, without it getting over-analysed?

People online take Dragon Ball way, way ...

Re: Gohan's total absence

I think Toriyama's apathy - bordering on antipathy - for Gohan boils down to his perception as a boring, static character, hence deeming him unfit for the protagonist role way back in the Buu arc. Gohan is not interested in fighting or adventures, so unless he is literally dragged along or ...

Re: Has Super and Daima replaced Z and GT in the modern era?

Nah I don’t think so. I still think Z holds a much more prominent in position in the public consciousness than Super does. I think the average person is more likely to know Cell than they are Beerus or Zamasu, if you mention “Future Trunks” their mind will immediately go to the Cell arc not the Goku ...

Re: Series character designer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru says a Dragon Ball remake is possible

I mean...it's pretty embarrassing to be writing that kind of scene for comedic effect involving a minor.

That is true. I am actually curious as how that would be handled, the blood and gore you can pretty easily remove without affecting the story much at all, you can argue that certain ...

Re: Series character designer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru says a Dragon Ball remake is possible

I could be wrong on this but the original DB was already censored no? The tournament with Uranai Baba has a moment where I think a 17 year old Bulma(?) gets her shirt ripped off and that leads Roshi to spray blood out his nose covering the invisible man and ultimately exposing him. Which of ...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

I'm speaking to what the story is asking of the audience, which is, "hey remember how gohan was trained by piccolo in the saiyan arc and tried to revive him during the namek arc?" the relationship fades in any kind of prominence until the toyotarou manga and super hero decide to play on what is ...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

Idk how much I really bought into the idea that Gohan lets his power go to his head, I mean if thats true of Gohan then thats true of everyone outside of Future Trunks. I dont even know if Gohan even toyed around with Boo that much, that fight was very brief in the manga before he self destructed.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

The bones of a good arc are certainly there, I never really thought that evil goku was a compelling concept prior to Super but I gotta say that I was absolutely sold when Black was first introduced. The mystery behind him and his otherworldly nature was genuinely intriguing. But I felt that they ...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

It's pretty funny how some takes in the fandom mock and ridicule the Trunks' Spirit Sword because it's left ambiguous how Trunks learned the Spirit Bomb technique... but then turn around and love the GT ending, which literally does not make any sense.

If Goku died, then it's unclear why or how ...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

Sure, I'm not saying EOZ is bad or tonally inconsistent. There is a lot to like about it, but it just doesn’t feel like an ending to me. In a weird way, it feels like it’s setting up another adventure. Like its so much easier to continue past EOZ without significantly changing the status quo ...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

I think I prefer GT’s ending to the original Toriyama ending because beyond its finality, you actually develop a sense that the world itself has moved on from Goku and friends. That they are relics of a different time and the fruits of Goku’s efforts are felt in an everlasting sense, that’s its ...

Well them not knowing when they arrive would force them to train just as hard as it could happen at any moment.

I think the only thing it changes is Goku’s plan

Re: What if Raditz didn't tell Vegeta and Nappa's arrival time...

I don’t think it would change things much, I guess one could argue that Goku may opt to train on earth because he wouldn’t know when the saiyans are coming and thus wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving so easily in the event they get attacked.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

My unpopular opinion is that GT's ending is very overrated. You often hear people say "GT sucked but it has a good ending and ssj4"

I don't think GT's ending is appropriate for Dragon Ball's tone at all. It feels like the ending to a different show altogether. Goku deciding to fuck off with the ...

Re: Toyotaro Is Not the Right Successor. To Me, Dragon Ball Ends with Daima

To be fair, the heart of dragon ball has been lost for a minute. Even Toriyama’s modern creations just don’t really have it aside from maybe the first half of Daima and BOG. Arguably the worst DB property(ROF) came from Toriyama.

Part of this is a question of how much studio involvement is ...
