Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

That's the thing which really sucks, in that FUNi for some deliberate reason does not want to put out a release of Z that respects the show for what it is . No... to them it's all about polishing and making it look like a new thing and doing so as cheaply as possible as we have seen with the Orange...

Re: Backing Up Dragon Ball DVDs and Blu-rays 2.0

Then there are the Funimation Dragon Boxes. The only release giving me any sort of issue. When you open up their "VIDEO_TS" files, it's a straight up mess. There are multiple lists of the same thing. To just copy and paste (like every other release) would leave me with 76.6GB of data per disc . I c...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

In general there are very few examples of a long running weekly anime series from the pre digital era that have been remastered for blu ray in Japan. Seasonal shows like gundam have been remastered but nothing of the hundreds of episodes variety. The only ones I can think of are yu yu hakusho and R...

Re: Z Kai Re-Edited Project

The Kai master is from Toei's film, while Funi's an unknown (2nd or 3rd?) generational copy. As such Toei's will always have the strongest color & detail. I'm not a fan of Kai's post-production DNR but its color definition is the best of any of the Dragon Ball releases. Regarding what Ajay mentioned...

Re: Dragon Radar ~ English subs & audio for your Dragon Box [v1.1.0 "Freeza"]

It'd be both, but just processing the numbers isn't guaranteed to be accurate. Computing these offsets against a 23.976 rate is a little different than just a multiplication. You really need to check the video to get accurate numbers.

Re: Dragon Radar ~ English subs & audio for your Dragon Box [v1.1.0 "Freeza"]

Responded to your PM about this but it may be worth repeating here: It's possible to do it, but it's a far more complicated process than it sounds, and right now it can't be automated. You also need to re-encode all the audio tracks at a lower quality to make them fit on the disc. http://www.kanzens...

That's a quirk I've also noticed and I'm still unsure of the cause. It's only that episode too.

Re: Dragon Radar ~ English subs & audio for your Dragon Box [v1.0.4 "Ebifurya" released!]

It's just a separate subtitle track from the DVD. The 'Subtitles' track has full English dialogue subs, while the 'Signs' track is for when the English dub is selected, translating signs, like the Tenkaichi Budoukai banner, for instance.

Re: Digital vs Tangible

Now imagine a guy with 1000 bluray discs... Not to mention all the time lost just backing it up. This. I don't have 1000 (I think) but my collection isn't small. It'd take a shitload of hard disks & a shitload of time to rip every single disc I own. For instance, ripping a single-layer BD takes aro...

Re: Dragon Radar ~ English subs & audio for your Dragon Box [v1.0.4 "Ebifurya" released!]

It's possible DVD Shrink may be modifying the VID table in some way. I highly recommend doing 1:1 rips of those discs for compatibility -- DVDfab is my recommended tool. I will experiment with DVD Shrink and see if I can replicate these errors. Thanks for bringing them to my attention.

Re: Digital vs Tangible

. With a disc, you have it forever. I could have said that about my VHSs and I would be wrong. Even if nothing abnormal happens, after 15 or 20 years, it would be perfectly normal for the format to be absolete or for the product to start failing (they do have lifespans). In that regard, I would exp...

Re: Digital vs Tangible

Physical. Every time. Streaming picture quality just isn't capable of matching Blu-ray yet; they're cramming the same video information into something like 1/5 the bitrate. More importantly, these services are ethereal, they could take down these series at anytime. With a disc, you have it forever. ...

Re: Dragon Radar ~ English subs & audio for your Dragon Box [v1.0.4 "Ebifurya" released!]

So... it's a known bug that there are some issues using the R1 Dragon Box. Ripping the disc doesn't give a reliable way to find which episode corresponds to which VID on the disc... so the ones packaged in the config file are essentially wrong, depending on your disc rip. I was planning to add a fea...

Re: Dragon Radar ~ English subs & audio for your Dragon Box [v1.0.4 "Ebifurya" released!]

It varies by episode. All the stuff in the Dragon Radar data file came from manually syncing episodes by subtracting or adding video frames. For example... "DB": { "op": { "offset": 40 }, "001": { "prologue": { "frame": 3300, "offset": 15 }, "partB": { "frame": 21691, "offset": 10 }, "ED": { "frame"...

Re: Dragon Radar ~ English subs & audio for your Dragon Box [v1.0.4 "Ebifurya" released!]

Is this lossless? I've always ripped my DVDs and Blu-rays using MakeMKV, never to VOB folders with programs like DVDFab, which looks like it tries to compress the video and audio, or am I mistaken? DVDFab does have options to compress, but it can also do lossless disc rips. Has anyone managed to sy...

Re: So I just bought the Blu Rays...

I think folks really overestimate the value of the DVD singles. People often sell them bundled as sagas, relatively cheaply.

What's expensive are the artboxes, particularly the Cell Games box and the Saiyaman one. The Pioneer boxes can be pricey if they're in good condition too.

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular

Your video looks similar to the first 13 eps of the Blue Bricks, which in my opinion was a fine remaster if not for the zooming. Looks good!

Would you mind posting your Avisynth scripts? I'd like to play with these filters myself.

Re: Dragon Radar ~ English subs & audio for your Dragon Box [v1.0.1 "Babidi" released!]

hey, I've got some simple questions about this... - when you say it patches the japanese dragon box. does it actually patch the dvd and insert subtitles and audio? or are you running a program on the PC every time you want to watch them? - is it necessary or beneficial to do this on the Z dragon bo...
