Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks

So... the limited edition... set... was... just for the box, book, and Goku figure? Alright, whatever. Just means I don't have to wait around to get these as they release nine of them over a two-year time period. Still can't help but feel a bit dicked around by Funimation. Just to be clear, Funi: I...

Re: Kakarot vs Kakarotto - The Vegerot/Vegetto(ito) effect

.I have a question, in Japanese, is it "Kakarrotto", or "Kakarotto"? I know there's a syllable that can "extend" characters in Japanese if I recall. I believe it's カカロット, which would directly translate to "Kakarotto." I think the double-R that some people use are to kind of preserve the pun. I coul...

Re: Kakarot vs Kakarotto - The Vegerot/Vegetto(ito) effect

But there is a "zu" character: ズ. Again, it doesn't change the sound of the name, so we don't have to be so literal with it. If I had to venture a guess, "Broly," "Frieza," etc. were done to try to move away from the on-the-nose name puns because they're -- I'm gonna say it -- dumb and don't add any...

Re: Kakarot vs Kakarotto - The Vegerot/Vegetto(ito) effect

My problem with FUNimation's "Broly" is they pronounce it like BRO-ly, when his name is a play on the word "broccoli". And I don't think the Japanese phonetics are an excuse. The "-ly" spelling obscures the pun even worse. Who cares about an official movie poster? Accuracy is accuracy. Or if not ac...

Re: Kakarot vs Kakarotto - The Vegerot/Vegetto(ito) effect

It's a convenient way to twist this thing, honestly. Obviously "Kakarot" is a pun on "carrot." As for "ブロリ," the "リ" can be "ri," "ry," "li," and "ly." So, yeah. Do the puns have to be that on-the-nose? Why are "Kakarot" and "Raditz" not "Cacarrot" and "Radish?" So, if those names could be modified ...

Re: Original BGM with the broadcast audio

Hey. I know that this thread has some age on it, but a specific scene jumps to mind where I really disliked the Japanese score. The scene is when old Kaioshin told Gohan to power up to attain his new power. This was in Dragon Ball Z, episode 262, roughly 16:20 into it (counting the intro). Gohan st...

Re: Kakarot vs Kakarotto - The Vegerot/Vegetto(ito) effect

Right, so "Broly" is actually "Broli"? Kakarrotto I'm guessing is the most accurate for what we have a the moment, that being "Kakarot", haven't heard back from VegettoEX yet on that though. Broli's name is literally just the word broccoli without the "cco". Spelling it with an y makes absolutely n...

Re: The History of Trunks Soundtrack

I was going to say that I never heard of it before and maybe you're thinking of "Dragonball Z: Trunks Compendium 1" -- no 2 or more, just 1. But then, I saw that "promo." Oh jeez. Couldn't help you on the actual soundtrack, but that promo was... whew... Not a good "whew" either.

Re: Kakarot vs Kakarotto - The Vegerot/Vegetto(ito) effect

Dragon Ball is a step more complicated because every character has a pun to their name, which creates a balancing act of priorities. "Do I retain the pun? Do I retain the pronunciation? Do I translate this word or leave it as-is?" I refuse to accept "Vegerot," for example, but lots of people like it...

Re: Kakarot vs Kakarotto - The Vegerot/Vegetto(ito) effect

I've been all over the map with this. In my early-teen years, I'd exclusively use Funimation's spellings/names because those were the official English versions (who knew Toei would follow suit in today's world?). Then, in my mid-to-late-teens and on, I used Steve Simmons' spellings because that was ...

Re: Which character and/or plotline in the franchise is the biggest waste of potential?

Definitely the Goku's evil brother story. We finally had a link to Goku's mysterious past, and he's wasted in a few episodes. I can understand Toriyama's trying to stay away from the cliché, but it feels like more could've been done there.

Re: Does English Dragon Ball need higher profile actors?

I actually think that the dub has weathered the storm and this argument is moot. DB never needed high-profile actors, it needed good actors. As proven by its ridiculous success in the US (and other English-speaking countries, but I cannot speak to its popularity there), the story and marketing has s...

Re: GT Special question

Of course GT would be the one to get the best audio. GT also had the best singles release by Funimation, as it looked the closest to the Dragon Box and had the next episode previews. Of course it had to be GT lol And I am one of those rare crazy people that liked GT (before it was slightly more cool...

Re: Screen cap request

No problem at all! They're a little dark for my liking, but I am not a fan of Toei's tint for their Blu-rays and the Dragon Boxes. If Funimation was a bit lighter or Toei's releases were a little more balanced, I'd like that. Of course, I have no idea what colors are supposed to be . Let me know if ...

Re: Screen cap request

Hope this helps: https://i.imgur.com/6Xneh1L.jpg It's from the Slug movie. Pretty self-explanatory. I'm pretty shocked that Funimation's Blu-rays seem to be framed exactly the same as Toei's, while their remastered DVD (same framing as the Blu-ray) actually has slightly more footage on the sides tha...

Re: Screen cap request

Yeah, I feel like I'm terribly at spitting "issues" with the releases. When they're just glaringly bad, I'll spot them (putting the focus on a character's chest or chopping off heads due to a 16:9 format that wasn't intended), but I'm really bad at the whole washed out colors, grain stuff. To me, ev...

I'm assuming we're talking about the Japanese Blu-rays. I got them a while back, but seem to recall people criticizing the release as being inferior to the Amazon release.

The disappointment from both Goku's about not getting another shot is kinda sad. We need to crowdsource a fandub of super, heck have Chris sabat play copy Vegeta lol In all honesty tho, I would love to at least see ocean do all the films, outside of seeing kai, that all I want :D Ian Corlett appare...
