Re: Possible details on Selecta Vision's Dragon Ball (1986-1989) bluray release

I think people give the situation way too much credit. "Sabat has the files" -- yeah, he has a lot of stuff. I'm willing to bet that people send him stuff all the time (like their video edits, the Ocean dub soundtrack, coverart, etc.) that he blows smoke up their ass about how, "This is so much bett...

Re: DB and Nostalgia

I'd be lying if I said that I want nostalgic for Dragon Ball. It dominated my childhood in the late 90s. You go back and look at how much went into advertising on Toonami. And then, there was the entire mysticism of what comes after Goku starts fighting Jeice and Burter (using their Funimation spell...

Re: What would Norihito Sumitomo’s weakest tracks be?

I don't know about his weakest tracks, but I found his music in Kai to be a bit too synthy. It kind of reminded me of the Faulconer score in the way that it sounded and was laid out. Like, I wouldn't be surprised to hear those tracks in the original dub. I felt like "Strong Rival" played three time...

Re: Kikuchi Kai: Is the music quality better?

I don't know, I just recently watched Kai 1.0 through and while it is a bit jarring when the Kikuchi score just suddenly takes over (the US release), I kind of enjoyed it. I think that what I noticed, was that a lot of the music was from the original Dragon Ball. Do you think that it would be better...

It's honestly something that I'm surprised anyone was able to find. The narrator, yes. But the rest? It's amazing anyone spotted those differences.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

If by broadcast version you mean it has the respective Johnson and Faulconer replacement scores, then sure, it does. If by broadcast version you mean the audio mix the singles used transferred from the finalized masters, complete with the original actors and acting instead of the partial redubs and...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

I've seen some people say things like, "If they got the original film masters and broadcast studio and next episode previews, I'd buy it." Yeah, that would be the pinnacle of what could ever possibly be released. I'd hope that would do it for people lol I am disappointed that more care wasn't put in...

Re: Would Buu Kai be in 4:3 if it didn't air in Japan like originally intended?

I think that Boo Kai feels like a totally different beast fromKai "1.0." From the intro to the aspect ratio to the background music, I don't know, it just feels like a totally different product. The closest comparison I could make is when DBZ aired on Toonami and went from the Ocean dub into the Fun...

Re: Funi's Kai dub and accuracy

I've decided to go through Kai recently and found an interesting remnant of its censored dub. When Vegeta is fighting 18 (I think), she blasts a van head-on. While obviously in the original, there was no dialog from the occupants of the van, the dub had someone shouting, "My van!" As if the person i...

Re: Is it fair to say that Dragon Ball is no longer marketed to kids in North America?

Are people trying to say that today's "America" is somehow more sheltered than in the 90s? Back then, they couldn't even allude to death or even say the word. I think in the late 90s and early 2000s, the rules of kids' TV started changing a bit. I mean, all you have to do is compare "seasons one and...

Re: The push for GT at the end of Z

I don't think that it "pushed for GT" as much as GT springboarded off of end-of-Z. When people would complain about GT's use of Gohan and a more domesticated Begeta, etc., I always used to say that it really did pick up where TNT end-of-Z left off.

"Shit" was used in Kai? What? Lol My God, I must really have not paid much attention to the dialog lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoAWFT3nHJ0 Err. Kinda stretching it. I put it on my Hulu to get the subtitles. It had the Adult Swim logo on it, but here still says the exact same thing. The subt...

Re: Is it fair to say that Dragon Ball is no longer marketed to kids in North America?

Hm, interesting. That seems a bit more "TV-14" than their usual. I watched Super all the way through kind of half-assed where most of the time, it was on in the background while I was doing something else. Usually these things would at least grab my attention. I guess I missed them. One that grabbed...

Re: Is it fair to say that Dragon Ball is no longer marketed to kids in North America?

It’s as the title says. Yes, we all know that Dragon Ball was made for kids in Japan, and while this was also true for English speaking countries back in the days of the old Toonami, it seems to me like it’s not really the case anymore. Super and TFC aired entirely on Adult Swim in the states, and ...

Honestly, "demon" is fine. Anything to do with "drill" just sounds bizarre to me. I'd probably rather it stay as "Makankosappo."

Re: Why you should thank TheCW, rethink 4kids, curse Saban and HATE LITTON.

I honestly have nothing against this run of Dragon Ball. To me, as long as the uncut version existed and was available, that was good enough for me. I never watched Kai on Nicktoons or the CW, but to me, either people watching those versions were too casual and wouldn't care enough to seek out more ...

Re: Shintani's style doesn't do it for me

I'm half and half on it, really. I think my biggest thing is that it looks like a degeneration. Because it does look more like the original Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, it's kind of like taking steps backward. On the other hand, it was different and fresh and really did strike this weird nostalgia...
