Maybe its to make the pair look like the whole 'like father like soon' in looks. Or it could be that no one could be arsed making the king look different so they slapped on a beard, slightly changed the armour a bit and added a cape XD.

I would be all go for a new DB Series, providing it was remade by Toei Animation and not another company. Reason being is because sometimes i've noticed that with some remakes to an old show, the staff who remake it change some of the original show's previous concepts like characters etc, not saying ...
