Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.
I'm not sure why, but i think DBZ movie 7 animation style look different from other movies and series, and how characters are drawn i actually really like that style, and it is shame it never was used beside them, again, i might be wrong.

When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.
How the Black Arc Should End (by Lightbing!):
Spoiler:
Absolute Zamasu(my name for their fusion) wins. He fulfils his utopia and dwells in his loneliness(x amount of time for this to happen). He starts to doubt of his achievements, Goku's body influences him to seek out challenges but there's nothing. Perfection becomes a curse. Absolute Zamasu starts to dread his existence and presents himself to the Omni-King, detailing on his actions.
Using his powers the Omni-King restores everything to the moment before Goku and Vegeta perish, humanity's last barrier. Zamasu concedes. He ask for forgiveness(mainly to Goku, Gowasu and Trunks) and understands that his justice isn't justice at all. He asks for judgement and the Omni-King delivers.
Trunks is forced never to travel in time ever again, all the time-machines are destroyed.
Trunks looks a little... off model there. I was never a big fan of the animation of Movie 7, but I think this movie marked the point where the animation for the DBZ would get much better on average.

I still haven’t lived down going, “Who the heck is Tao Pai-pai?” that one time I was talking with Ei’ichiro Oda-kun. But the fact that there are still people reading the series after all this time… All I can say is; “thank you.” Really, that’s all.

And that you also have IMMENSELY skewed and comically backwards priorities in what you think is most important and needed to make a good Dragon Ball story.

Nothing really stood out animation wise in movie 7. At least for me. (aside from Goku's balls being punched into his lungs) It just looked kinda ugly for the most part to be honest.
I am a freelance animator, check out my thangs. ART!

Movies 6 and 7 both had rather...odd styles. Not so coincidentally, they were both Minoru's last movies as supervisor before Yamamuro Tadayoshi took over in Movie 8.

Nothing really stands out in Movie #7. Between juggling the animated series and having to put together two films are year I think Maeda was pretty burned out. It doesn't help that he didn't have any good key animators working under him, let alone a good director directing and storyboarding the film.

The second shot is Naoki Miyahara's key animation left untouched.

Agreed. I especially dislike Piccolo with a realistic nose in the OP that Minoru Maeda occasionally draws. His skill was obviously becoming insufficient for Toriyama's development of his art, which must be the reason why he retired from the franchise. For your information, the scene with Goku getting his balls punched was animated by Masaki Satou.

Maybe it's done by the same person.
No, that's drawn by an unknown artist who was in charge of merchandising art.
Off-topic, but has anyone done this with 2000s-2010s art?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
I wonder what happened to these promo artists sometimes. A lot of the older promo art has such a cool sense of scale; it's like, if you didn't know what this series was you'd want to check it out just based on the promo art. That doesn't happen anymore, really, with DB imo.
Oh wow this is pretty awesome I really like the Vegeta one where half his hair blends into the sky so awesome. No kidding when people say the promo art was better back in the day.

Speaking of Minoru, whatever happened to him after episode 164 of DBZ?

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I'm just about done with the concept of reboots and making shows that were products of their time and impactful "new and sexy" and in line with modern tastes and sensibilities. Let stuff stay in their era and give today's kids their own shit to watch.
I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

He left the series after Episode #164 and the second TV special and was no longer credited as chief animator after Episode #199. Presumably he was too busy working on Sore'ike Anpanman.
