is Pan really the Grandmother of Goku Jr?
There's is little to none data on any of Goku Jr's parents or other relatives besides Pan. If by any chance, Pan is indeed Goku's grandmother, then that would probably mean that Goku was either Abandoned by his parents or they died somehow, which seems rather odd unless they died of Natural causes of course. Pan, During Hero's Legacy Pan states that: Once Goku Jr was born, she saw the resemblance with his grandpa on the child and decided to named the baby after him. If Pan was present during Goku Jr's Birth, that means two possible routes: 1. Pan is the mother of Goku Jr or 2. Pan saw, knows or knew Goku Jr's Parents and somehow a series of events leaded the way to Pan adopting the child.

I always just assumed that his parents died or something. I don't think there's any more to it.

The most likely in-universe reason is that his parents died. To be honest, though, I wouldn't think too much about it because it's obvious that there wasn't much thought put into it in the first place.

I'm assuming the natural causes bit is to cover the Dragon Balls right? Don't forget though, they were rendered unusable for a good long time (I want to say 100 years but I forget if that was only in the dub or not), so it's entirely possible they couldn't have been revived no matter what happened to them.successoroffate wrote:If by any chance, Pan is indeed Goku's grandmother, then that would probably mean that Goku was either Abandoned by his parents or they died somehow, which seems rather odd unless they died of Natural causes of course.
I kind of assumed they were gone too though, yeah.

Re: is Pan really the Grandmother of Goku Jr?
Yeah, is just that in the Dragon Ball Universe, there are really no natural deaths except for Grand Elder Guru and Goku dying in Future Trunks timeline due to his heart disease. So it's either way, Someone killed Goku Jr's parents off or they just died. Even if the DragonBalls were working, Natural causes would have not allow Shenlong to bring them back.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I'm assuming the natural causes bit is to cover the Dragon Balls right? Also, I'm aware that Guru's death wasn't all natural causes as the stress he went through due to Freeza invading the planet accelerated his death.

Goku's Jr parents are most likely dead. They may died from being sick or they died in some type of crash. I doubt any villains came by after Super Yi Xing Long since they mention that the Earth was peaceful for a century.

Yeah, specially if Goku wasn't around. I don't think there would be a threat coming to Earth in the form of a new enemy seeking revenge or something...Hellspawn28 wrote:Goku's Jr parents are most likely dead. Re: is Pan really the Grandmother of Goku Jr?
Of course she is not. You can say "grandma" to your "grand-grand...grandma" as well though. There is really not more to say about this as they entire "was he adopted" thing or anything is not necessary. Of course they are a part of one family but how close? Not exactly as close as the word seems to tell us. It does not matter though. Goku's family has always been close to the rest of their people nonetheless.

Re: is Pan really the Grandmother of Goku Jr?
Pan is stated to be Goku Jr's great-great-grandmother, so no, she isn't his mother.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I think I remember VegettoEX told me a long time ago when I asked about Goku Jr's parents, To use my imagination
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Pan is half Saiyan and she is super strong. Her being 109 or 110 years old in GT is not surprising. If Roshi can live that long then why can't Pan?

Someone's grandmother contributing to deciding their name isn't that strange, nor is someone's parents no longer being around. I'm not seeing where there's reason for any confusion here.

Re: is Pan really the Grandmother of Goku Jr?
Well, Pan got ill and the only one at the Hospital was Goku. Keep in mind, that Pan is a well known public figure during those times, so it's kinda odd the only family relative is Goku Jr. Pan helping with deciding the name is not strange at all, is just the fact that there's no else around. I was just curious about any theories on Goku Jr's Roots.Zephyr wrote:Someone's grandmother contributing to deciding their name isn't that strange, nor is someone's parents no longer being around. Re: is Pan really the Grandmother of Goku Jr?
In a french magazine they said that Pan have a daughter died when she have Goku junior, but still not convinced me because Pan is too old than a grand mother. I have a grand-grand mother so i think they bad calculate logical things in GT with Pan!
Please understand: it's my first time on an english board about DB & i have a very very bad english!! thanks

Just before he went to try and use the Mafu-ba on Daimao, Roshi commented that there was no such thing as the Immortality Elixir, and that it was all a lie.DBZAOTA482 wrote:Roshi drank the immortal elixir. That magazine made all that up. Pan is stated in the dialogue of GT to be Goku Jr's great-great grandmother, not just his grandmother. Additionally, nothing is mentioned about the generations of Pan's family between her and Goku Jr.soleil444 wrote:In a french magazine they said that Pan have a daughter died when she have Goku junior, but still not convinced me because Pan is too old than a grand mother.
