Bandai "Hybrid Action" figures help...

Post by Brad Redfield » Mon Jan 15, 2007 9:46 am

Hey guys, I recently stumbled upon this discovery while looking through Dragonball Toy Island's forum:

http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN945734

It's a new line of 4-inch, super-articulated action figures from Bandai-- very similiar to their Ultimate Series figures that were made only a few years ago.

It seems that this site doesn't have pictures up for all the figures and most of the links at the forum are dead. I would love to see how the other figures look but I can't find any other sites that carry these things. All the search engines keep pointing me back to the mentioned site.

Can any fellow DB-action figure collector help me out here? Sorry if I put this in the wrong section.

EDIT: Godammit! One of the links was working.

They all look good except for SSJ Trunks. Bad hair day?

Still haven't seen Boo or Gogeta ones....

But those are great. I love DBZ figures... even the crappy ones.

I managed to receive my set of the first wave of Hybrid Action just after Christmas, straight from Japan.

Apart from some heavy parts of paint wash on some of the figures, the proportions of the body are much more accurate than the Ultimate Figure Series and the facial likenesses are much better as well. I would have thought they'd have been bigger than 4 inches from the early production images but they still make great pieces. I'm looking forward to the next wave.

Here's some images of the actual products for your enjoyment:

I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Excellent job, yikhaichan! These look great; I'll have to start collecting them once I get some more money.

Thanks!

Nice. Those do like like the Ultimate Figure Series... but better! I also agree that they look like they'd be massive based on some images. Heck, even the packaging is nice! The only thing I'd change is that I'd make their heads "exchangeable" like the volume 00 SBC Goku.

:checks ebay: Twenty bucks?!

http://www.hlj.com

They're ten bucks a piece here.

Besides the four pictured, we also have coming:

Non-SSJ Goku
Majin Buu (Which form, I dunno.)
Perfect Cell
Trunks (Non-SSJ Future Trunks I assume.)
Gogeta
Vegeta (Again, assuming its his non-SSJ form.)
SSJ3 Goku
SSJ Gohan (Cell Games)

Glad to see we're getting more than what the Ultimate Series offered. Hopefully a SSJ2 Gohan and fourth form Freeza aren't too far off.

The Majin Buu that Brad mentioned is the Fat Buu form as seen here:

Also a prototype and test-shot image of Gogeta can be found here:

So where's the best place to snatch these up at?

God I wish Jakks hadn't been such a sellout and still produced quality figures like these.

Bandai>Jakks buddy...

Jakks should stick with the WWE figures, imo their DBZ/GT stuff was horrible. The only good thing that they made were the continuation of the Movie Collections though.

Some of their Movie Collections made no sense. Ma-jin Buu, Gohan absorbed? What the Hell?

And Bandai will always > Jakks. I just was making the statement, because Bandai DBZ figures aren't as easy for me to get my mitts on.

The original series with Super Saiyajin 3 Goku, Gotenks and Buu (Gohan absorbed) was renamed "Fusion Collection" just for that wave and wasn't done by Jakks at the time, it was from Irwin's IF Labs.

I don't see much of the Movie Collection over here in the UK so if Jakks have ever re-released Majin Buu in the Movie Collection, then you're right, it doesn't make sense. However, most of the figures that Jakks does release are poor repaints and odd rehashes (such as the black/white "manga" coloured versions).
