Dude, whoa. Put words in someone's mouth much?
That is more or less what he was saying. This forum is known for converting people to hate the dub for dumb reasons.
How do you know exactly what he was saying? What's a "dumb" reason? Why shouldn't someone be allowed to change their opinion? Who is anyone here to say that someone shouldn't be allowed to change their opinion?
Furthermore, when did anyone ever come here and actually expect there to be a dub-majority? What from our website would ever give anyone the indication that there would be any type of focus on or admiration for the dub?
Additionally, please keep the thread on-topic.

Yeah, bad voice acting = dumb reason.

Uh no... After being introduced to the original Japanese cast, I noticed that FUNi's dub wasn't "the $h1t!" And I THANK DaizenshuuEX for that. No longer am I the, "The Japanese voices are gay! FUNi rocks!" fan that I once was.

Why shouldn't someone be allowed to change their opinion? Who is anyone here to say that someone shouldn't be allowed to change their opinion?
Now there
you go putting words in
my mouth. Personally I also prefer the Japanese version, but there seems to be this stigma (not only on this site) that you HAVE to watch the original version or you're not a fan. It just annoys me.
SatoSky, I apologize for sounding too harsh, I was just in a bad mood. VegettoEX, I apologize for getting off topic.

No biggie! It's all just at matter of personal preference. Neither version is superior to the other. We as fans are allowed to choose what we watch, and how we watch it.

Yeah really. I PREFER english VAs in general, but that certainly doesn't mean I think seiyuu are anything resembling horrible. Not in the least o_o

I prefer whichever cast actually makes the characters believable.
FUNi's feel like caricatures, Toei's feel more realistic (within the scope of being a 'larger than life' ensemble of characters).
The funny thing? I loved Fruits Basket as done by FUNi, simply because the voices sounded REAL. Same reason I love Cowboy Bebop, Gungrave, Samurai Champloo, Gundam Wing and a number of other animes in English. They sound genuine, not like some "Superhero voice #1 fights Sinister voice #5" production.

Totally agree with you.

I love many English dubs, Trigun for example. Johnny Yong Bosch is awesome! I also love the Fullmetal Alchemist dub. It's just that with DBZ the FUNi VA's can't seem to get it together. Oh well!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I love the FMA dub (except for Ed's voice... sigh).
Seriously, Al's English voice makes me cream in my pants. Uh, in a
non-"I wan to touch 12 year old boys"-kind-of-way.

Something I agree with Desire about. This is my opinion: What's wrong with Ed? Well, nothing for the 14 year old version we get in the first two episodes and outside the flashback arc and sequences. It's just...the 6-12 year old Ed, done by Vic Mignoga in some idiotic "I'm trying to sound young with an angsty tone!!" sounds way too much like an angsty 16 year old. Al's is perfect, but Ed...*cringes* I personally would've preferred it if they'd just gotten another child VA or a really good female VA for that age range of Ed. Just my outlook on it.

I don't really know. Just something about his voice seems unnatural. And it just grinds me the wrong way. It doesn't sound like a boy, it sounds like a grown woman trying to sound like a boy.
Most people seem to like the voice well enough, I think it's just me.
It's on in 10 minutes on YTV (for all us Hoosers) if you want to see what a really good dub is like.
/edit/ or, not... I guess. Damn YTV.com... /edit/
/edit/ or I guess so... right now (15 after) /edit/
So, anyway...
widescreen?

The Japanese creators of FMA actually WANTED Ed to sound a little more masculine in the dub, hence why they loved Vic's interpretation.
It's just that with DBZ the FUNi VA's can't seem to get it together.
Not necassarily. As Corey just said, they're fine with everything else (hell, they do a really GOOD job with everything else o_o). That, and I think we can agree that at least SOME of the voices can be generally accepted, even to those who don't like the dub at ALL. Even Mike has admitted to liking select ones from after the Texas cast took over.
I think DBZ is still 'treated' (I use this term lightly) the way it is because some people hold nostalgic value with it, like some people do with stuff like Speed Racer, if that makes any sense. Just yesterday a friend of mine and I were watching an old Trunks episode (Goku's New Technique I think it was), and we were loving it AND laughing at it at the same time. Yeah, it's stupid, but hey, that's just another view of the whole grand scheme of fandom ;P

Not to turn this into an FMA thread, but I don't like Al's voice one bit. Nothing against the VA, because he really is a good actor. It's just that the voice didn't stick with me too well.
Anyway, yes FUNi's VA's are great
outside of DBZ. That's just me though. Back on topic... does anybody think the price for the season two sets will go down over there at CD Universe? From what I understand, the season two sets will have less episodes than the Vegeta Saga. Has anything been confirmed for the season two sets?
Check out the James Marsters CD, Civilized Man. Great stuff.

FMA?

Does anybody know how the Z-store is treating the remastered set? The prices at CD-Universe are great but are there any amazing offers going on at the Z-store?
(I know I can probably look this up myself but I wanted to steer this thread back to DBZ..)

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Strangely enough, that link mentions it as being in full screen (1.33:1).

If I remember correctly, for FMA they got Ocean Group to do the voices. With FUNi having "more money that we know what to do with" I wonder why they couldn't keep Ocean Group for DBZ...
