Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
I know Vegeta said he couldn't sense the Super Saiyan power from Full-Power Super Saiyan Goku and Gohan when he saw them.
Super Saiyan definitely has a distinct feel to it.
Super Saiyan definitely has a distinct feel to it.

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
I don't know. I wanted to see Herms' opinion about this.
Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
He didn't say that in Herms' translations. What he said was:Super Saiyan Turlast x4 wrote:I know Vegeta said he couldn't sense the Super Saiyan power from Full-Power Super Saiyan Goku and Gohan when he saw them.

Chapter: 390 (DBZ 196), P6.1-2
Context: Goku and Gohan emerge from the Room of Spirit and Time
Vegeta (to self): “…What’s with them?!...Is that Super Saiyan…!? No…It has a slightly different atmosphere…They’re being so natural in that state…”

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
Either way, shouldn't Herms' notes on Gohan's quote answer your question? If it was about level of power, the quote would've been similar to Krillin's quote on the Ginyu Force.
"First I whip it out! Then I thrust it! With great force! Every angle...! It penetrates! Until...! With great strength...! I... ram it in! In the end... We are all satisfied... And you are set free...!" ~Dante~
Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
Let's just put it this way: fans long before yourself have questioned exactly what Gohan meant by that remark, and the general consensus for years now has been that he was talking about how Super Saiyan ki felt in general, not the size of Trunks's ki compared to Goku's. The context from the story makes this clear.
*Trunks turns Super Saiyan*
Gohan: Oh snap, it's my dad!

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
Can someone please translate this page in full? If not at least the part where Kintoun's speed is referenced. Also if you write it down the original text alongside the English translation will be perfect. Asking too much probably...

You can find a lot of this information in Herms's translation of the Item Dictionary.Speedster wrote:Can someone please translate this page in full? Kinto-un
First Appearance: chapter 4
Category: vehicle
Explanation: A mystical cloud which Goku received from Kame-sennin. It was originally a part of the giant Kinto-un owned by Karin-sama, and long ago Kame-sennin broke a piece off and took it with him. It the past it was wiped out by Tambourine, and the current Kinto-un is the second generation. Goku went through many adventures with it, and it was passed on to his son Gohan.
Special Characteristics: An extremely mysterious riding cloud. It freely flies through the air in accordance with its rider’s will, going from stationary to its maximum speed of mach 1.5. Though it’s very convenient, only those with pure hearts can ride it. If those with wicked thoughts get one the cloud, they will simply plunge through it. Also, it will soon reconstruct itself even when hit by attacks from bombs or missiles, and will only be wiped out when attacked by a Demon Clansman’s ki. (Daizenshuu 4, p.144)
Anime: In the anime version the pure-minded Namu also rides it, as do Panji and Norimaki Arale in the movies.
Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
Thanks. I am actually fully aware of that thread and that passage and that is why I posted the actual page. I am hoping to get the Japanese text alongside the English translation because as far as my eyes can see from the actual page there is no number "1.5" mentioned. Unless it is written in text format of course like "one point five".Tyro wrote:You can find a lot of this information in Herms's translation of the Item Dictionary.Speedster wrote:Can someone please translate this page in full? That's because, as you said, you posted "Daizenshuu 4 page 144" and cited a translation from a thread titled "Daizenshuu 7: Item Dictionary". It's not just the wrong page, it's not even the right book.Speedster wrote: "Kintoun and magic carpet Daizenshuu 4 page 144"

Here's the line in question, though:
停止状態から、マッハ1.5の超高速まで、乗り手の意志に従い自由に空を飛ぶ。
It freely flies through the air in accordance with its rider’s will at speeds ranging between stationary to the super fast mach 1.5.

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
Thanks a lot. Well my confusion was because in that thread Herms does say Daizenshuu 4, page 144 at the bottom of the passage and it is unclear which bit comes from which book. And if you google about Kinton's speed there are several sites who reference this exact line and say it is from Daizenshuu 4. Anyway my bad. Thanks again for the Japanese script.Adamant wrote:That's because, as you said, you posted "Daizenshuu 4 page 144" and cited a translation from a thread titled "Daizenshuu 7: Item Dictionary". Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
That's a crossreference note in the article itself. All articles in Daizenshuu 7 that concern things covered in detail in earlier books have reference notes like that.Speedster wrote:Well my confusion was because in that thread Herms does say Daizenshuu 4, page 144 at the bottom of the passage and it is unclear which bit comes from which book.
That'd be because they just source Herms and pretend they didn't, while also misinterpreting what he wrote.Speedster wrote:And if you google about Kinton's speed there are several sites who reference this exact line and say it is from Daizenshuu 4.

Actually, you know what, here's a full translation of the Kintoun segment:
(The Daizenshuu 7 article seems to be pretty heavily based on this entry, the wording is word-for-word identical in many places)KINTOUN:
A mysterious cloud Goku got from the Turtle Sage. It flies through the air in accordance with its rider’s will. If you will it so, it will come flying when called.
(TORIYAMA'S NOTE: Kintoun already existed in the original story, so it was not something I came up with on my own. It was convenient for having characters instantly go to their destination, which I could show from an overhead angle. Once Goku and the others eventually started to fly, it had played out its role.)
Kintoun initially belonged to Karin-sama, the hermit cat that lives at the Karin-tower. It's really an enormous cloud, the Kintoun Goku has is only a part of it. Those approved by Karin-sama, and none other, can tear off a piece the size of their own liking and take with them. Unfortunately, it can not fly higher up in the sky than the top of the Karin-tower.
*After Goku had had Kintoun wiped out by Tambourine, Karin-sama told him to tear off a piece from the giant Kintoun the size of his own liking. However, Goku just took a bit the size of the one he used to have.
IT'S EVEN FASTER THAN A MOTORBIKE
*Kintoun's speed can be freely controlled between stationary to super fast. Normal vehicles, including of course motorbikes, are no match for it.
THREE SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF KINTOUN:
1: It can fly freely through the sky.
2: Only those with pure hearts can ride it.
3: It will get wiped out by the ki of a Demon Clansman

Regarding Kibito, I've seen some people use the alternate name "Kibit". Where does that variation stem from?

I believe Steve Simmons used that in FUNimation's subtitles, not realizing / forgetting the pun comes from tsukibito ("attendant"). Fairly certain on our ancient podcast interview he also said, reflecting on it, he'd have gone with "Kibito".Analytic wrote:Regarding Kibito, I've seen some people use the alternate name "Kibit". Don't quote me on this but I think I remember those horrendous scanslations from Dranet using Kibit as well. I think I ended up using the term for awhile because of them.VegettoEX wrote:I believe Steve Simmons used that in FUNimation's subtitles, not realizing / forgetting the pun comes from tsukibito ("attendant"). Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
Could someone possibly take a look at the text in this image and tell us what it says? Supposedly it's from one of 2010's Extreme Battle Collection books, and is talking about Ultimate Gohan, Super Saiyan 3(s), and Goku's Dragon Fist technique.

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
It just describes Ultimate Gohan as stronger than "Super Saiyan 3" (so not SS3 Goku specifically). It doesn't mention the Dragon Fist at all.Kaboom wrote:Could someone possibly take a look at the text in this image and tell us what it says? Thanks, that's what I suspected.Herms wrote:It just describes Ultimate Gohan as stronger than "Super Saiyan 3" (so not SS3 Goku specifically). It doesn't mention the Dragon Fist at all.
There were claims that it also said something about the massive power amplification of Goku's Dragon Fist attack making up for the SS3/Ultimate difference. Hence letting Goku beat Hirudegarn despite the big lug beating Gohan. Which is still a solid idea, if you ask me.
