"A ways to rejuvinate the brand with a young audience and introduce them to the greatest action adventure anime ever! There's a nine-year-old born every day."
They're targetting their new "uncut" release to nine-year-olds? The same company that felt compelled to create and release an alternate edited version for TV and home video?

First they acted as though the remastering made it like some kind of collector's edition akin to the Dragon Boxes, and the widescreen was there to give the "cinematic feel". What nine-year-old cares about any of that? Hell, nine-year-olds would probably complain about the black bars on their TVs.

Conclusion: the DBZ department is completely clueless, and has been making things up as they go along.

Then, Dragon Ball Z remastered DVDs.
- Season 2 available 5/22/07 (35 episodes).
- Points out that it's digitally remastered in high definition, and has a Japanese music track included with English dialogue.
- Widescreen justification: "A ways to rejuvinate the brand with a young audience and introduce them to the greatest action adventure anime ever! There's a nine-year-old born every day."

Nope. I assume that age "requirement" are in the same level as some kiddie shows such as Doraemon. It's a show for kids. Hell, I remember everybody was watching DBZ in the first grade in Taiwan, and I assure you, they weren't scared of the "gore"! And even without censorships, parents didn't complain.
I understand nobody cares about the age rating, but surely there had to be one? I'm curious because the age rating will tell what age group was targeted, and I doubt that's any lower than teenagers.

I remember My ultimate uncut version of Movie 2 was rated PG 13 and I belive the DVDs are TV-14 So yeah a nine year old is born every day bu that doesn't mean he can watch this.

It should be fun for 9 year olds all over America to hear Kuririn call Vegeta a bastard (among many other swears), members of the Ginyu force give the finger, and Bulma's little bath scene. That's not even counting all the violence in this season. Season 2 ahoy.

9 year olds watch more violent shows than DBZ.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

The Ultimate Uncut episodes aired on Cartoon Network with a TV-PG raiting.

That's terribly insulting. Is that quote from the person on Toonzone who posted this (as I know they've become quite anti-dbz there since it disappeared off Toonami) or some Funi representitive?
On hiatus.

What makes you think that? To the best of my knowledge Japan doesn't have an age rating system for TV shows. (And if it did, there's no way DBZ would have got a 13+ rating )

...if nine-year-olds were born every day, we'd have a lot of sore women.

Seriously, how is that a justification in any way? Is it suddenly hip for kids today to be "down" with widescreen? If so, Viz better get on that bandwagon before it's too late and start cropping Naruto.

On an unrelated note (and I apologize in advance if someone else mentioned this), I'm watching my Ultimate Uncut vol. 1 DVD and when the opening started playing, I noticed the "chili pepper" Corey posted a few weeks back from the Season One set. Terrific job on the remastering, guys...really fantastic.

Actually, that's what it's labeled at my local Best Buy. I don't think the Japanese classification or lack thereof has anything to do with the way it's categorized in America. And it could very well be just something that Best Buy decided to stick on there themselves, but I'd say it's a lot more accurate than uh, 9+.

And the FUNimation employees must go to some kind of a quack hospital if when their child is born the doctor says, "Congratulations, he's nine years old! :D"

It was a FUNimation representative that said that at their panel.

And I don't know if you've been there recently or not, there are quite a bit of DBZ supporters over at TZ. :P

That's just sad then (in addition to being grossly inaccurate).
Third graders aren't going to be getting into the show now. It no longer airs on Cartoon Network, there's no new episodes left to come out or be dubbed, and certainly no merchandise toys or goodies the elementary-school fans would want to play with. (By way of this I mean the only place I ever see new dbz figurines is online or at this one store at a certain mall anymore).
The only way anyone that young would still get into it is if:
A) CN starts airing it at a decent, non-midnight hour again.
B) The child lives with someone older who's already a dbz fan.
And I don't know if you've been there recently or not, there are quite a bit of DBZ supporters over at TZ. :P

I go over there every once in a while (my account on that site's from 03' I believe. ) but not nearly as often as I once did. Nice to know there is dbz support there somewhere.
On hiatus.
