Goten and Trunks.
Because... they seem to have no intention of aging them in Super. Child characters get boring and annoying, and they have been more annoying than entertaining so far.

Lol McGuffins, I'm pretty sure a Dragon Ball show without Goku & co would be wonders if well written and animated, but we'll just agree to disagree here.ABED wrote:No, the grail and the Dragon Balls are the McGuffins. It's like medieval tales, you could say it revolves around King Arthur or Lancelot, but in fact is about the grail.

Unless it was reboot, no chance in hell. Gokuu has been the main character since the start, he even has his own day in Japan, people are to attached to him for something like.PsionicWarrior wrote:Lol McGuffins, I'm pretty sure a Dragon Ball show without Goku & co would be wonders if well written and animated, but we'll just agree to disagree here.ABED wrote:No, the grail and the Dragon Balls are the McGuffins. Sure, maybe some spin-off, but people wanting to wed Goku does not mean the show revolves around him, he's the main character no doubt, but everything happens because of the Dragon Balls. Honestly he could even be dead and still have some appearances from the after-life, what I meant to say is no matter what happens to the characters, if the more popular ones die and new ones appear, it could still be a DB show if done right, and an awesome one, even if we'll all be missing our favorite chars and there is many, as long as the dragon balls are there it can be no other show.soppa saia people wrote:Unless it was reboot, no chance in hell. Then I agree it would be an extremely risky thing to do, as to not fuck up there is so much to take into consideration especially if changing direction.

Re: If You Could Permanently Kill Off One Character...
They're the textbook example of McGuffins. The show doesn't revolve around them, they are simply the impetus for the story, but pretty quickly they are no longer the characters' goals. They're useful plot devices, but they aren't really what the story is about. It's about Goku becoming the best fighter he can be. Not everything happens because of the Dragon Balls. Goku and Kuririn training and competing in the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai had nothing to do with the Dragon Balls.
People aren't tuning in for the Dragon Balls. If you get rid of characters like Gohan, Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, etc. it becomes a different show. After 20 years, I doubt the show would be successful.if the more popular ones die and new ones appear, it could still be a DB show if done right, and an awesome one, even if we'll all be missing our favorite chars and there is many, as long as the dragon balls are there it can be no other show.

Now that's a bit reductive.ABED wrote:It's about Goku becoming the best fighter he can be.
Well it won't be either DB or Z or GT or Super obviously. Maybe the show wouldn't be successful as is clearly a gamble, nevertheless one I'd enjoy watching, if it's not silly ofc.If you get rid of characters like Gohan, Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, etc. it becomes a different show. After 20 years, I doubt the show would be successful.

It's simple, but true. That's his goal throughout the story. Now that's a bit reductive.

Yes that's Goku's role, saying to whole show is reduced to this is what I contest.

It's essentially what the show is about. At its core, it's about his journey. Instead of telling me that I'm wrong or laughing at McGuffin (still don't understand why you found that funny), offer a counter argument.PsionicWarrior wrote:Yes that's Goku's role, saying to whole show is reduced to this is what I contest.

Is not only about his journey, it is also the journey of Kuririn, of Piccolo, of Vegeta, of Buruma, of Gohan, now even of Beerus, etc.
The way I see it nothing would have happened without the dragon balls, they are the reason villains appear thus Goku has to surpass them and himself.
I didn't say you were wrong I said I disagreed no need to get so touchy, my argument since the start is that I consider Goku to be the main character of a show itself revolving around some balls.

Yes, they are an important plot device, but it's not about the Dragon Balls. The show doesn't revolve around them and it's quite clear seeing as how they aren't always the goal of any given arc. And the villains main goals aren't always the Dragon Balls. And sure, there are other important characters, but Goku is the main character so it's not overly simplistic to boil the story down to it being about him. All the other characters you mentioned revolve around him and his story.PsionicWarrior wrote:Is not only about his journey, it is also the journey of Kuririn, of Piccolo, of Vegeta, of Buruma, of Gohan, now even of Beerus, etc.

I'm not touchy at all, where'd you get that impression?

This is actually where I start to find it subtle, let's take the Cell arc for example, things were so tense precisely because there were no dragon balls, so they weren't directly involved on main focus nevertheless maintained a crucial role by their absence.ABED wrote:The show doesn't revolve around them and it's quite clear seeing as how they aren't always the goal of any given arc. That's the perks of being a main. All the other characters you mentioned revolve around him and his story.
Nah just teasing you.I'm not touchy at all, where'd you get that impression?

Maybe Hercule? From what I've seen of him so far he seems like an annoying glory hog.

My other choice would definitely be Hercule. He's very tiresome by now, and his role was already way too big in GT.

Mr. Satan didn't do anything in GT. Yeah he's a gloryhog but he's sweet at heart.

Actually, I liked him better in GT then anywhere else, but he had way too much screentime for how irrelevant to the plot he was. Pretty much the only thing he did was take Pan away from the battlefield after she got knocked out from one hit (about a dozen times at least).ABED wrote:Mr. Satan didn't do anything in GT. I'm fine with how much screen time he had because he didn't have much and I'd cut the Goten/Palace stuff before I'd cut anything with him.Anime Kitten wrote:Actually, I liked him better in GT then anywhere else, but he had way too much screentime for how irrelevant to the plot he was.
