I finally saw that on YouTube and to me, it wasn't that great. Haven't seen the Chris Sabat version to compare, but I'm assuming that it's neither better nor worse.
Here's the FUNi redub of the scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdu8_rko0kU .Sabat actually does a good job in this one.

On a side note, I clearly think FUNi is superior to Ocean. I used to love Ocean's dub as a kid. I then watched recently, I saw poor acting, poor music, and poor censoring. It just shows that sometimes things should just remain a childhood fantasy.

Yes. TT_TT
The entire makeover of Toonami, in my opinion, looks horrible! On another board they were saying how the new Tom looks like a cross between the fish on Finding Nemo and Thomas the Tank Engine.

They took away Sara without ANY explanation and they shoved Tom with three new sidekicks who have the exact same face as he does.

I'm just glad I don't really watch much of Toonami anymore.
On hiatus.

I'm glad they are re-airing it. I do wish it were the Ultimate Uncut, considering that they aired it before, but I guess some parents freak out at things like this when there's a lot worse things on TV. And I think playing Bleach instead would be just like airing the UU version.
Man, I miss the good ol' days. Coming home from school and watching Reboot, DBZ, Tenchi Muyo(I envyed him :x ), Yu Yu Hakusho, and Sailor Moon(She used to be smexay! ).

Oooh that clip was awesome! The one of Vegeta finding out that Gohan took his Dragonball. I've never seen that line delivered by drummond but I LOVED Sabat's performance there. I've never really liked the ocean cast doing DBZ. IMO they didn't perform as well as Funi's cast does. Then again, I grew up with the Funi VAs. I was little then so when they would restart the show from the Freeza saga, I noticed the voices changed but it didn't really affect me. I didn't know it was an anime back then either. I thought it was just being made and when they would restart I would just think that they were making new episodes. But anyway, nowadays I still prefer the Funi cast. The ocean group actors do a wonderful job on Inuyasha but on DBZ, not so much. Ahh I'm probably gonna get so flamed :( .

YTV needs to bring back DBZ right now :x. I haven't watched the Ocean dub in a long time because I usually just watched my dvds, but after re-watching some of it recently, the Ocean dub is MUCH better... For some reason the dialogue always just sounds smarter than the Funi version.

The only VAs I would take from Funi would be Sean Schemmel, Laura Bailey, and the VAs for #18, Videl/Goten to replace the Ocean ones.

Very interesting indeed... over here in Australia, DBZ is currently showing in Cartoon Network (at 7 PM. for those who want to know) however it's just the Funimation dub... whether it was the provider's choice or if it's all they had we'll never know.

Are they even aloud to show the Ocean dub? Do they need permission from Pioneer or was Pioneer just the company that put out the DVD's?

I think at a bussiness stand point they will show the Ocean dub and then say somthing like, "The Dragonball Z you are now watching is a very edited version with the voice actors you don't know and love. If you want to watch DBZ 'the way it was meant to be seen' purchase our new digitaly remastered DVD's. Now available."

That would be kind of cruel though.
I would laugh if they ended up showing the original Japanese version with english subtitles.

Maybe drummunds got sabat beat in that scene but imo judgeing a guy if a guy is psychotic or not on one scene isnt really enough. I havent really seen drummund do really that great in any other scene. Sure he can scream good,at least in early dbz but his normal voice doesnt really strike me as threating or evil just a squeaky guy with a big ego.

Who yells really loud when he is mad. Heck other than mcneil I really couldnt see these high quality ocean actors that I hear being talked about .Perhaps i am setting my standards too high.
Well just some of my thoughts.

Personally I enjoy it the way it is now, by that I mean I enjoy Drummond as the young & bratty Vegeta, and Sabat as the older, more focused Vegeta.

I suppose it all comes down to personal taste and which one you viewed first.

I completely agree. You can also notice how Sabat changed his voices due to experience. At first he was new and sounded like a young Vegeta. Then as the show progressed his voice got more solid and older. But when I heard they where going to re-dub the series with the Ultimate Uncuts, I was hoping to hear that young Sabat voice(For consintency purposes). But when I heard it, he sounded like an old GT Vegeta. Which was a big dissapointment.

Pioneer is just the distributor. Funny how we refer to the era of bad DBZ products as 'Pioneer'. Hah

I liked the original Ocean voices, and the Funi ones. Both

Anyways, that's cool that they're airing the episodes from scratch again. I wish they'd do that on YTV again (and this time, with the Cell/Boo arc as FUNI)

Just in case anyone interested, FUNi put a statement about DBZ return to TV, an well as have a huge advertisement on DBZ's main web page.

A clip to remind ourselves of how cool the Ocean dub was.

Wow. I thought I would never like the dub after all this time, but that brought back memories and was a great dub compared to Funi's version.

This is why I'll take Shuki Levy's music over Faulconer's any day.

Agreed, after seeing scenes of Drummond voicing the older Vegeta from the more recent Ocean Studios episodes, I just don't think it fits. But he was great as the younger version.
