Actually, from what I've heard, the Spanish dub's pretty good
I started with Dragon Ball on YTV (I have no dea when, any other Canuks remember the year?). They only showed the first season though, so I had no idea who Kuririn, Tenshinhan, or Piccolo was when DBZ started - but I do remember that I thought Gohan was Goku, until he said "this is my son, Gohan".
I was like, "Holy crap - what did I miss?!".
Ah, memories.

Ah, another of these "earliest DB memories" threads. It's been a while, so I guess I'll just repeat what I said a while back.
The earliest memory of DB for me would be when I was watching one of the Namek episodes during the weekend. It was around the time when Kuririn, Gohan, and Dende sneaked the dragonballs away from Vegeta to summno Porunga. I vaguely remember the line about "pissing off the god of love" and Porunga turning into a steaming statue before disappearing due to Saichoro's death. And of course, this was when I first heard "Rock the Dragon." Good times.
Either before or after this happened, my friend at the time was completely obsessed with dragonball and was taping the JP episodes from the i-channel. Since he carpooled with me, he'd show up at my house in the morning with his latest taping of on of the Cell Games episodes. He also brought what he told me were his cousin's tapes of movies 7-11. For some reason, the OP was replaced by a MegaMan OP theme
.
Anyways, I was completely freaked out by how incredibly violent the show was at first, but eventually eased into it.

I probably answered this question before so I'll post my old answer about my earliest memories of DragonBall (and the reason why Big Green is my favorite character).P.S. Earliest not Earlyiest..

It was giving the episode in which Chaozu sacrificed himself. This was on Channel 11, WPIX look it up, so its understood this was the worst time to get into the show. I was so damn confused: How come this dude with three eyes can survive with one arm and how come this kid 'travels' through dimensions again and again? From that one episode I hated the show. That's right, Mr. Piccolo hated DBZ. That is until it aired in Toonami (Cartoon Network). I caught the episodes when Piccolo fought Freeza. That really brought me into the series. That is also why I'm a Piccolo fan. From there with the help of some other fans and the internet, I got more information on the series and learned the truth so to speak.

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Wow, when I first saw DBZ I was still in jr. high. A friend came rushing over with a tape that he had recorded from the Radditz vs the duo fight. I was instantly hooked.
At school there was someone who actually had copies of the raws. I remember watching the Majin Vejita vs Gokuu fight (7th grade) and movie 13 (8th grade) both raw. I think it was the reason I started to learn Japanese. haha.
Good times.

Yeah that's pretty much the same thing I did. Around the 8 or 9 grade I got a copy of an Anima Labs fansub of the Majin Vegeta/Goku right; then I got a fansub of Movie 12.Iyouboushi wrote:

It's been at least 7 years since I've last watched those tapes, that is if I even still have them.

Christmas 92, 93, I forget which; I got the NES game Dragon Power. At this time I had no idea what DB was, but I knew at that young age there was something unique about this game, even though I had no idea what edits were done and the truth of the names. Still, I wouldn't have cared, I had a ball with that game and still have it even today at my parents' house somewhere. That's my first exposure/memory.

Earliest memory would be in 2000 whist visiting my grandmother, sure was a visual treat.
The sky was pink,
There was a blue guy,
A man with a halo was chasing a monkey running around an incredibly small planet
And a car.
The volume was incredibly low so I couldn’t even understand what was going on, not that I probably could anyway. But I remember trying to think of why this guy had a halo (I was dense enough to not think of the obvious reason.)
In the end I came to the conclusion, the guy must have really enjoyed the food he ate.

1998. The random giant tractor tires strone about a field that the intermediate center called a playground. A kid that was maybe slightly slow talked about playing DBZ... and... He was "the green dude". And everyone was to gather the dragon balls to make wishes, but "they just wish for more powers [so they can keep fighting]". And he seemed fond of the spirit ball. And I had no idea what was going on, but it sounded coolish. And I only heard things here and there and picked up characters names and such from random scenes on Toonami (it was close to Voltron's old timeslot), and eventually I pieced together the first two seasons to some extent, saw bits of the first three movies... and around the time that season 3 came out I was into the series.
And then came the guy that apparently knew that DBGT started with the Garlic Jr Sega, and that Vegito reached SSJ7 and then exploded, and that SSJ3 was just like SSJ2, but with white hair...

The picture was one of those generic group shots with lot of the characters as Super Saiyan..
Me: Who's that?
Him: That's Goku.
Me: Ok... who's that?
Him: That's Gohan.
Me: ....And that?
Him: Gotenks.
LOL... I remember just laughing because they all looked the same to me and all the names sounded the same.
Re: Your Earliest Memory of the Dragonball Series
I started watching it when the Cell arc originally aired. I was around 15 and I bought a fansub of movie 7 (which I believe came out around 92-93 I think) at this old pawn shop that no longer exists. So thats pretty much of what I can remember at the moment. I later purchased subtitled copies of movies 9 since I saw Gohan in it and I remembered him from the Cell arc and eventually obtained a copy of movie 12. So those movies and a pretty good amount of the Android/Cell part of the series was my earliest introduction to the series.Tony93 wrote:Mine was when i was like, 4-6 maybe 7.
