Absolutly Hysterical Dragonball Card Game Knock-off

Post by _Jrinu_ » Sun Apr 08, 2007 1:25 pm

So a friend of mine happened to be on vacation this week and while there he picked me up something that he thought I would find hilarious.

This is without a doubt one of the worst examples of unofficial Dragonball merchandise I've ever seen. It's called Dragonball Trading Card Game: Legend of the Blue Eyes White Dragon.

Image
So first off... the title. If I'm not mistaken "Blue eyes White Dragon" is Yugioh right? That's the first thing that caught my eye, and I think it's really funny.

So here are some of the cards...
Image
Here Goku is called Sun Wukong. Nothing wrong with that, seeing as how they understand the origin of the character.

Image
Kame-Senin called Turtle Celestial? Where did they get that from??

Image
One of Slug's Henchmen I believe his name is Medamocho (or something like that...) But here he's called Big eye monster. What an obscure character to give a card to, and what an interesting name.

Image
Oolong? Space suit? Black Dragon? Why???

Image
Garlic Jr. called Green human animal

Image
Videl = Weidaer? Is that even a name?

Image
I love this one. Last time I checked, Upa was a dude...

Image
I really got a kick out of this one. A picture of Buu-saga Chi-Chi with kid Goku, and That radom Slug henchmen again. Also It's titled Bulma, and she is nowhere to be found.

Image
I'll leave you with this one. Titled Sun Wukong, we see a picture of Ultimate Gohan, with Yajirobe, Arale, and the villian from the second Dragonball movie... WTF?

So I thought you guys might get a kick out of these, I know I did. There are some others but these were the ones that stood out the best.
There is no better combination in the world than Dragonball, Cherry Pepsi, and Cheez-Its. It's a proven fact.

Well, 'Muten' means something like 'warlike heaven', so 'Kame Muten' could be translated as 'Turtle Celestial'... maybe.

The rest... yeah. That's really lame.

I remember those. The same people made those horrible looking Yu-Gi-Oh card knockoffs I always see in open markets.

Well, he did save the world afterall, we mustn't forget.

Funny-as-hell cards, looks like something the old timers from Beckett would probably have done back in the day. I noticed a couple of those seem to be more naming the characters after the pun of their names, like Son Goku becoming Sun Wukong, Oolong becoming Black Dragon (I think Oolong's a pun for black-dragon tea). Overall though, just a very random and crazy set of cards which seem like they'd fit perfectly with the Big Green dubs overseas. Much love for the random inclusion of Arale.

This is one of those all-too-rare times when a massive barrage of lawsuits is actually a good idea.

These are hilarious, in a "zomg wtf this is disgraceful" kind of way.

LMAO.

That last card was classic. I don't think I've ever seen anything more random.

Yeah, if my memory serves, "Oolong" is the Chinese term for "Black Dragon". (Whether or not it also refers to tea is something I can't confirm.) From the look of it, whoever made these tried to translate them from a Chinese source of some sort, in which case the quality really isn't surprising considering the, uh, not-so-legal Chinese-language versions of Dragonball you often tend to find... :|

But, yeah... Chichi being called Bulma? WTF? D: And I'm thinking some of the cards have multiple characters on them because the maker of these didn't really know which of them actually had the names given on the cards. Geez, you think they'd make some more effort in getting details like that right... 8D;;
Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

The whole thing with Uronsan being called Black Dragon is because of both the tea and the Chinese name used. If you know Shenron which is a Japanization of Shenlong (Dragon Divinity) then you can pull a "Goku" and connect the 'long' part of Oolong to 'dragon'. Yeah and it's a popular tea called Uroncha. Toriyama loved food puns remember?

To be fair, how often do you hear the name Videl?

But, anyways, this is a great find. I love looking at bootleg cards and such.. . I remember a few years ago, the local flea markets began selling bootleg Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. Good times, Good times...

Yeah, I know. But it's just really funny to look at the name spelled like that. But, you are right.

These cards are everywhere on the streets. I once got a similar pack for WWE Superstars. The first card I picked out was of a random ECW superstar I don't remember with the label "Torrie Wilson".
Meh.
