What do you see in the future of Dragonball video gaming?
Besides the upcoming Dragonball Online game, what do you see happening with Dragonball videogames? Do you see them getting better, staying the same, or do you see any new games at all?
Is there any direction in particular that you think they should go in? And with all the talk of Next-Gen, what should a Next-Gen Dragonball title be?

I'd imagine that they'll exhaust the fighting genre for a bit and move into other things... I think the whole Sagas incident hurt confidence in the US for other styles of DB games, but eh, we have HarukanaruGokuDensetsu and DB-Online... so I'd imagine that the fighting games will be filled to the point that people just give up, and by then the transition to other genres will be underway (from the looks of things RPG is winning...).
I don't think it'll die out too soon, but the focus will have to be on a different genre if any further success is expected.

I'd like to see a deep RPG with a bigger story and new subplots.
Never happen, though. I foresee nothing but fighting games.

I wouldn't mind seeing another Sparking/Budokai Tenkaichi game if it were to be on a next-gen console (yes, I know 2 was on the Wii). Imagine the game on PS3 or Xbox360, it could have even more characters, GIAGANTIC fighting areas, and even better looking special attacks. Dare I say, Budokai 1 style cutscenes?

Well from my perspective, DBZ Tenkaichi 2 on the Wii feels like ultimate dragonball gaming perfection. Sure the RPG mode in Dragon Adventure gets tiresome and repetetive but it really helps you out more compared to Tenkaichi when it comes to winning tournaments and trying to beat ranking mode.
They even threw characters such as Master Roshi, Mr Satan and Yajirobe into certain sections of Dragon Adventure who originally would never get a chance to shine in a DBZ game.
As for the future, I hope that if they were ever to make DBZ Tenkaichi 3 they would allow you to have a choice between camera modes from either the Budokai games and Tenkaichi games.
The reason of this is because the Tenkaichi games always made your character stand infront of you so you could only see their back. Unlike in the Budokai games where you could see your chosen character properly in a 2D style which seemed to make it look like how fighting games should be.
Also with the revealing of many random movie characters and characters from DBGT in Tenkaichi 2, their could be a sign of DBAF or even *Gasp* fan made characters who never even existed if Tenkaichi 3 was ever made. (The great ape forms of Bardock, Turles and Nappa seemed to start it off in Tenkaichi 2)
And finally in my oppinion, they should add more filler characters who never appeared before such as Icarus, those 2 dinosaurs which appear in some episodes and that old man who was in the filler episode "A girl called lime"

Another, super-dooper, next-gen Sparking!, with every character imaginable, and breath-takingly vast and awesome arenas that are basically the world, but with a bunch of starting areas, and kick-awesome cutscenes?
Absolutely worthless. But it will probably happen.
I can see maybe four more fighting games that can realistically be considered good business decisions for this period in DBZ gaming. Which systems they'll go with... I don't know (I refuse to go next gen without a good reason... which I have yet to find. Though I will admit that the Wii looks cool enough to try).
Judging by what I've seen around here... RPG is the next thing that will come up as the fighting games start to fiz out. There's a lot of crazy potential there, but I fear that it won't be capitalized... on... properly and will wind up simlar to the Fighting game situation (though it might go slower).
Random idea in the middle of last sentence: KH-style DBZ game. Sure, one for the Jump universes would work... but one limited to the various DB circumstances... ideas are fun.
Hmm, instead of having everyone post what they want to see in the next game of this type, or what game they want, or what they want in the next Sparking!, I thik it'd be awesome, and maybe useful to compile a list of most-wanted-stuff from the daizex community... *considers starting a thread on that*.
Bleh, I see hopelessness all around! I should finish one of my bloody projects so I can prove to myself that "if this can be done, then bigger, more awesome things can be done".

If they were to make a tenkaichi 3 it should at least start at the beginning of db,where Bulma met Goku.

Mayhaps, but the nature of Tenkaichi is hard to console to early DB. A lot of us want a game with more DB, but it'd take a lot of fine ingenuity to fit that into a Tenkaichi-based engine without making it a completely new project (although knowing the business decisions of late, keeping the name wouldn't surprise me).
This is a very easy thread off of which one can branch... do I really have to place those prepositions like that? :-/
Judging by the ... ur... demand? A game based on original DB will probably surface ... eventually. Before the decade is out? Ok, so I've really only seen "demand" here (as I don't look anywhere else). How do the desires of the Daizex community with respect to Dragonball video games compare to the (referenceably expressed) desires of the general consumer community? I'll recall an incident a couple years ago where I tried to get involved in someone's attempt at making an MK game, and one of the big elements he was interested in was the size of the cast, as seems to be the case with Sparking! Neo/Tenkaichi2. So blargh, where is all of this going?
... and the very nature of Sparking! demands a create-a-fighter mode.

Anyway, now that I've lightened everyone's mood with amusing animated imagrey, I guess I'm obligated to contribute to the conversation.
For the future of DragonBall games, I see... Well, DragonBall Online, obviously, which will hopefully get an English version.
EDIT: In terms of an Early DragonBall-oriented game... Tenkaichi's style really wouldn't work with that. Battles in early DragonBall were large and crucial and dramatic, to be sure, but they weren't on the "now the whole planet is our battleground" scale that DBZ and GT's were. A good DragonBall game would work better on a smaller, Budokai- or SuperDBZ-ish scale, with more attention paid to making the characters and their multitudes of techniques unique and diverse (I think we could have an entire decent game around just Goku and Tenshinhan in that regard..,), rather than the "ZOMGSPLOSHUN HUGE FECKIN ARENAS W/ OVER 9000 CHARAKTERZ!" angle that the Sparking! games seem to rely on.
Also, one more of each style of fighter, that being one more Budokai-style, and one more Tenkaichi-style. Another BT is almost a sure thing, but I wouldn't be surprised if there ended up being one more classic Budokai-esque fighter, too. Either that, or another like Super DBZ.
Also, I'm willing to bet there's gonna be another attempt at making a DBZ action/adventure, which would hopefully turn out better than Sagas.

Last year, IGN had an interview with Bandai-Namco, and Bandai claimed a next-generation DBZ game would be an "obvious step". I'm guessing it'll be exclusive to the PS3, with a possible cheaper Wii version shortly after.(Why do I say PS3 exclusive? Bandai seems to have made the PS3 Gundam games exclusive, while the 360 is getting another title. Dragon Ball will probably be the same way, as it will help push PS3 units. I imagine Japan will have some type of "PS3 Dragon Ball" bundle as well.)

But the Wii Gundam game has a motion-controlled beam-sword. A Dragonball game that uses the Wii's unique controls would be preferred (by me, at least) over another Budokai.Sasuke_Chidori wrote:(Why do I say PS3 exclusive? I said something similar to this in a much earlier thread, so for convienience and less time for you guys to track it down. Here's what I'd like to see:
- Bilis.
Maybe with next-gen technology, we can see a game like this come to fruition. What I would really like to see is a new adventure/platformer-based Dragon Ball game. Much like in the style of Zelda/God of War, etc... Sagas attempted this and failed miserably... but I still believe a good developer could make this style of gameplay work for Dragon Ball.
What should happen:
- Multiple entries of games that go through the entirity of the Dragon Ball manga/anime. For example, the 1st game could be the beginning of DB thorughout the Red Ribbon Arc... the next game in the series would be the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai through the 23rd Budokai (end of DB)... and each game continues with the story arc by arc until the end of DBZ (or even GT)...
- Mini-games or puzzles. During certain stages/levels, you have to complete a mini-game to pass. For example, when you're up in Karin's Tower, you have catch Karin by timing your jump or something, or perhaps finding the right jug of water or something. Or during the Buu arc, Gohan would have to master the Z-Sword by controlling his swing right without falling down... Zelda and God of War did their mini-games and puzzles very well and I know that DB has multiple opportunities for fun and challenging puzzles.
- Items or powerups that increase your stats. It'll give players an incentive to explore or fight some of the more challenging enemies. For example, if Kid Goku gets hungry or tired during the Red Ribbon Arc, maybe the player could explore the base and find food and replenish his health.
Maybe there could types of Senzu beans that recharge you. Like a 1/2 or 1/3 Senzu fills your health that much. But the 100% Senzu bean is a rare item to find. Or perhaps, find an item that replenishes one's ki so they could fire off a basic ki attack. As for powerful ki attacks or special moves...
- Special attacks/signature moves require effort/hard work. For example, if you're playing as Goku, and you want to unlock the Super Kamehameha (which would be WAAAY more powerful than the regular one), you'd have to meet some sort of requirement, like beat a boss within a certain time limit or beat him with a certain attack. Or perhaps you have to have a certain amount of ki built up.
- The ability to increase one's Ki meter. You start out with one ki meter, kind of like in Zelda you start off with only a few hearts. As you progress or find secrets/items you can go all the way up to 5 ki meters or something, which you may need to perfom a HUGE signature move, like Kuririn's "Multiplre Kienzan" or Tenshinhan's "Kikoho" or something...
- Play with different characters at certain points of the story. Not just Goku all the time. What I mean is, during the Freeza arc, you have to play as Gohan or Kuririn until Goku finishes healing. Or even during the Cell arc, you could actually play as Cell and suck the life out of civilians in the city. (I kind of stole this idea from Ultimate Spider-Man, where one could play as Venom and terrorize people)...
Or perhaps during the Saiyajin arc, you play as Kuririn or Yamcha and train against other characters. I know a really good stage would be Trunks' future timeline where it's you against the Androids. The possibilities are abundant, and creates lots of play time.
- Exploration ala Zelda or GTA... You don't have to follow the main story arc right away. You can fly to different Namek villages and collect items or fight Freeza's henchman. Or during the early Dragon Ball stuff, you could explore the wilderness or towns and catch fish, talk to citizens, or fight bears or something. It wouldn't as linear as Sagas was.
- Multiple endings/story paths. You're not confined to the story of the anime. For example, maybe Goku really could die on Namek, or Cell nevers reaches his Perfect form. It depends what actions the players takes. This would also be a breath of fresh air for DB games.
- Bilis.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.
You just described my Fanmanga perfectly.caejones wrote: Random idea in the middle of last sentence: KH-style DBZ game. Sure, one for the Jump universes would work... but one limited to the various DB circumstances... ideas are fun.
Anyway, I think in terms of DBZ gaming future. I would love to see an online "Tenkaichi-esque" game. It would be the same camera angles as the other Tenkaichi games, and the levels would be gigantic, like say, the size of San Andreas. And it could be a 2-6 person Battle Royal. There could be little side diversions on the side, like a Hildegarn-type creature destroying the city somewhere. You could team up to stop it, help it, or just fight each other.
