Episode #0078! VegettoEX, Meri, and Julian discuss Atari layoffs and Shoko Nakagawa's recent anime theme covers CD release. Why is there yet another cover of "Romantikku Ageru Yo", and why is it a single with a music video, of all things?! We cover the arrangement of the song, its vocal performance, and its DB-homage music video. A wacky e-mail rounds out the episode! Referenced sites: Go ahead and grab it. Big thanks to godofchaos for hosting the splendid *seventy-eight* episodes, now.

I could have put this up at midnight, but I went to bed and watched couple episodes of Pokemon, instead... 8) You'll just have to find it in your hearts to accept this and forgive me...

This week, we took a semi-close look at the song that's stirring up an interesting conversation among fans, Shoko Nakagawa's cover of "Romtantikku Ageru Yo". Notice how as more and more songs come out, we're getting less and less excited. Where's my freakin' "true" updated versions of songs?!? Make me a happy fanboy! :D

It's the 20th of MAY, you completely normal person who is in charge of the best Dragonball-fansite ever! ...Just had to say it. Anyway, the random Pokemon-rant at the start of the episode was funny. Haven't heard the rest of it, so I can't comment on anything else...

"She has listed Bruce Lee, the idol Seiko Matsuda, and the anime characters Vegeta, Trunks and Sephiroth as people she respects."

...I really feel like eating a baby right now.

Yeah, amusing shorter episode this time. Can't wait for Sparking! METEOR news next week.

Isn't Shoko Nakagawa the cat-eater?

I'm about half-way through the episode, but I'll put up my comments later. I'm just giving a heads up that you headed the title as "Podcast Episode #0077" (it should be 78 ).

EDIT (after listening through the entire episode): While I do agree that Shoko Nakagawa is most likely just using dragonball as a way to make some money, at least fans of the show are getting more merchandise that ain't half bad. Also, I did like her little tribute music video of "Romantikku Ageru Yo." The only thing I found strange with it was the random watermelon she finds :?.

As for general thoughts on pop idols who make money off of a label and the US not doing that ever since Menudo, aren't we still doing that with the crap-ton of actors/actresses-gone-singers on the Disney channel as well as the short-lived American Idol kids? Though, I understand if EX and the rest would have never heard of this before (isn't the age gap on these forums great?).

That was a pretty random e-mail. And when EX started talking about a certain someone having a bad grasp of English, German, and Japanese, I knew it had to be Andrew. At least now I know why he'd never be on the forums.

EDIT 2: Shouldn't there be a link to the "Romantikku Ageru Yo" video discussion thread?

ENOUGH WITH THE SPARKING SERIES. I WANT SOMETHING NEW!!!

p.s. If I was Sean Shemmel, I'd be like "I have to pretend to not know who Raditz is AGAIN!?!?!"

Don't have much to say about the episode itself other than that I pretty much agree entirely with your opinions on J-Pop idols in general. But the topic in the chatroom hasn't changed, so I was briefly confused and bewildered when I checked the forums and saw this thread already. And...stuff.

Heh, nice one, Mike. No wonder Alan and Vic always fight for the chance to run the AMV contests.

Now back to slaving over a hot After Effects stove

Would I be pushing it if I also mention that you didn't put up the YouTube link to the video?

(Heh, I like how Jeff is the only one who includes a "Post Subject" when commenting.)

The video keeps getting removed due to TOS on YouTube, so I didn't include a direct link to it. New ones keep popping up in the discussion thread here, so that should suffice ^_~.

Well, it seems you're having fun with your Pokemon, still a month until release here in Australia though.

Although I totally understand the hallucinations thing, when I first got Budokai 2 years ago I played it until a riduculously late hour and I ended up being like "Freeza is after me... Must defeat him with the Kamehameha..." >_>;;

Question. The term "idol" seems to be used only used in the case of Japanese pop-singers, from what I understand. If I'm not mistaken, an "idol" is something that's worshipped, correct? So...then does that mean the Japanese population is automatically "worship" them? What if they're not very good singers, or just end up being total failures? Doesn't that kinda...NOT apply to them then?

That's exactly why they use the term 'idol' - to portray a sense of awesomeness that should be worshiped. Just like 'American Idol'.

No, just no.

Anyway I find that I dissagree with VegettoEX (gasp) on the subject of J-pop talent. I think that there are as ton more talented singers in Japan than in the UK and US.

I am going to hold out on listening to the Podcast. Well, it finally came (El Encuentro de los Saiyajins) and it was HORRIBLE (OO-RII-BLE) to say the least. I put a reveiw in the General Disscusion forum if anyone wants to take a look, although I think the thread may be quite dead now. So this means that I am no longer going to comment on the discs anymore. I mean, why would I comment on my drink coaster, which is what the DVD is looking to become in the near future. I kid you not.
