DragonBall Z Abridged
Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
How Whis is exactly considered an antagonist/villain? I know many people speculated that prior BoG but in-movie he was more like a servant until Beerus makes the revelation that he's actually his teacher.

Guilt by Association? It wasn't like he was trying to prevent Beers from blowing up any planets.Noah wrote:How Whis is exactly considered an antagonist/villain? Okay, why are you deliberately using an outdated translation when you know you're removing one of the puns for his name?FoolsGil wrote:Guilt by Association? How is Beers an outdated translation and who does it remove the pun? It's not like he called him Bills or anything.Sailor Haumea wrote:Okay, why are you deliberately using an outdated translation when you know you're removing one of the puns for his name?

It gets rid of the virus pun. How the fuck "Bills" is still a thing, I don't know.DanielSSJ wrote:How is Beers an outdated translation and who does it remove the pun? Beer and Virus.

I think "Beerus" is stupid so I call him "Beers". I also say "Turles" to "Tullece", "Chaozu" to "Chiatzu," "Tenshinhan" to "Tien Shin Han" and if I don't call him "Mark", I call Satan "Hercule." It's what I prefer.Sailor Haumea wrote:It's a double pun.DanielSSJ wrote:How is Beers an outdated translation and who does it remove the pun? Anyone else predicting Black & Zamasu being at No. 1? It's where I'd have em', personally.

The reason they named him after the word Virus was because in the original draft, he was the one to spread evil among the Saiyans, right? If so, is that part still relevant? Mind you, I'm not saying that we should all switch from Beerus to Beers, but as far as I know, it is a valid translation. Heck, I just checked my copy of Battle of Gods and the subtitles spell his name Beers, so that's something.Soppa Saia People wrote:It gets rid of the virus pun. Bills of course is a misguided translation that completely misses the pun and is basically the same thing as calling Kuririn "Krillin" or Tullece "Turles". Or calling Blooma "Bulma", but that one is Toriyama's fault.
They've already covered Super's antagonists in another video, and aside from Beerus (who technically appeared in Dragon Ball Z first anyways), none of the Super cast is going to be making the list. They say that since Super is still airing, it's too soon to call.Fionordequester wrote:Anyone else predicting Black & Zamasu being at No. 1? It's where I'd have em', personally.

Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
To be fair, I can't imagine anyone really being able to pronounce "Kuririn" in America, and Krillin is at least phonetically close to KOO-REE-REEN (the way "Kuririn" is pronounced, except slurred a little more). And Season 3 was bad enough as it was; just imagine listening to those same actors constantly yelling "KER-REH-REN" the same way they yelled "KAY-OH-KEN"DanielSSJ wrote:Bills of course is a misguided translation that completely misses the pun and is basically the same thing as calling Kuririn "Krillin" or Tullece "Turles". Not when you sound it out one vowel at a time. But when you're trying to throw it into a whole sentence, while still trying to deliver emotional lines in a convincing way? You're gonna stumble over it if you're not someone versed in Japanese. I don't think changing that particular name was a bad thing.DanielSSJ wrote: It's really not all that hard to pronounce.

Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
I use it in normal conversation and I'm not versed in Japanese at all, besides what I pick up from anime. If you want an example of how it is used in regular speech, try MistareFusion's (otherwise known as Gaffer Tape around here) Dragon Ball Dissection videos, which even has its own thread. Actually, just watch his videos regardless, because every Dragon Ball fan should watch them as they are wonderful.Fionordequester wrote: Not when you sound it out one vowel at a time. Anyways, to get back on topic, I'm betting the order of the next four villains will look something like this:
4. Cell
3. Piccolo Daimao
2. Vegeta
1. Freeza
I'm honestly delighted that Beerus (and Whis) were able to crack into the top five.

Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

Yeah that sounds about right. He's good, but not top 3 good.Neo-Makaiōshin wrote:Coming on Number #4 is.....

Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
Cell is good, it's just the moment he hits Perfection he falls flat. His imperfections were what made his personality shine and led him to be more interesting. Once he's perfect he trades personality for the coolest villain design I think we've ever had which is a shame.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
Cell's Imperfect incarnation was hands-down the most entertaining of the character. He was cunning, unpredictable and acted like he was straight out of a horror movie.
