Australian DB DVDs

Well, because it looks as if FUNi hasn't released the 'Saga of Goku' Dragon Ball Boxset, I was thinking about getting the australian one.

It looked to me as if Madman has released an Uncut Saga of Goku Boxset in addition to the others. So, because FUNi has not, I was thinking about buying theirs. I'm really hoping that this Boxset is Uncut, but I'm not too sure that it is. That's why I'm asking anyone that might know if they're Uncut or not. Are they Uncut? *hopes they are*

Madman is just the distribution company for Funi's dvds in Australia. That boxset will have the Texas cast dub, the original Japanese, Steve Simmonds hand picked Clide Mendolin (is that his name? I always just remember 'Tomato') to do the subs, and yes - it's uncut.

I too plan to pick up this boxset in the near future.

Although I recommend getting htis set, there is apparently TERRIBLE ghosting on the DVDs as result of their way of convertin PAL to NTSC.

Just thought I'd let those collecting Dragon Ball know...the Australian DVDs (Region 4) that are PAL were done poorly, they didn't convert well before encoding them into the 25fps PAL format (they did a blending mode to deinerlace then converted to pal instead of doing a 3:2 pulldown to convert to progressive then converting to PAL), so if you are collecting the Dragon Ball DVDs, your best bet is to get all of the US releases and not the PAL box set (even thought it would be cheaper) and only get volume 1 from PAL (if you planned to go that route)...just thought I'd let those trying that route know...

Well, I plan on buying FUNi's sets for the rest of the sagas, so I'll be okay for the most part.

The episodes themselves are uncut, although the set also includes the old '95 dub of the first DragonBall movie, in all it's cut glory, with no option of Japanese audio.

I have the first box set that collects the first 6 sagas and I can tell you that the quality is nowhere near as bad as some people make it out to be. I'm Currently up to episode 42 (Red Ribbon set) and I haven't noticed any signs of 'ghosting'. Sure, they're not Dragonbox quality, but they are watchable.

Just bear in mind that the FUNI versions are becoming harder to find. You can buy all eleven of them in just two boxsets from Madman though. I'll be doing a mini review of both sets together once my 'DragonBall Collection: Part 2' arrives.

I ordered both box sets about a week and a half ago. How long does it take them to ship this stuff?

Yeah, I was wondering about the Movie. Looks as if no one's released an unedited version of it with or without Subs for the original Japanese Version.

Well, I just got my box sets in today and the NTSC to PAL conversions don't look at all that bad. Maybe it's just a matter of choice of DVD player. If you have no DB DVDs, then I thoroughly suggest getting these, even if it is just to get the Saga of Goku set.
