Heh. To get a credit card I need/want a job also. I'm not gonna worry about that now. I'm here to say my books arrived. I got DragonBall Forever, Son Goku Densetsu, One Piece Yellow, and One Piece Rainbow anime guide. Definitely awesome purchases. I don't know what to buy next though. My aunt owes me like $300+. I could collect the Daizenshuu, get some of the Kanzenban, get 10 of the Dragon box singles, or some other things. I can seriously add to my import DBZ collection

I got them at Sasuga books. They have just about every import DBZ book except the Daizenshuu. Anyway, I love these books. I can't read Japanese(well I can read Katakana) but they're still awesome. They include a lot of pictures and Dragon Ball Forever includes some of the power levels up through the Freeza saga. It also includes other things like descriptions of all the characters, the top 10 fights, items used in the series, and more. It's mostly in black and white. Son Goku densetsu is in all color and is very awesome. It includes pictures of the openings and endings and the eye catches in Z. Also there is some english in these books like some names and titles.SonEric84 wrote:Strongbad456 wrote:I got DragonBall Forever, Son Goku Densetsu

Sounds pretty cool. Thanks, I'll have to check that out.
While were at it, does anyone know if the JumpLand tickets in the Singles can actually be used to gain those Diorama's for people outside of Japan aswell?
It's kinda hard to find any information about them at all, and since I can't read the website I'm not really getting anywhere
Any bit of info helps.
Who knows?

By asking here, aren't they doing just that... doing their own research? Asking in a location where a bunch of people are known to not only have both the FUNimation and Toei releases, and also know their tech?balrog wrote:No, get the season box sets. I'd like to formally warn you on your grammar and attitude; it may be beneficial to re-read the forum rules. Thanks!

Sorry, next time I will be more polite and control myself. And doing their own research by asking around on this forum isn't going to be that much different that reading that review thread here on the season box sets. Everyone seems to have the same opinion about them here, for some reason.
By do your own research, I mean read other reviews in other places. Amazon should be good, for example.

So just because the majority of opinions go against the season sets that somehow makes the "research" less valid? From what I read on amazon people were drooling over it for the most part so that's basically just the opposite of what you think is going on here..

If price is a HUGE concern, the box sets are actually a good idea. Yeah, a lot of it sucks and we were lied to, however, after getting a widescreen TV, the widescreen issue is less of an issue to me now.balrog wrote:No, get the season box sets. However, the remastering process was crap. We could literally do a better job the on forums if we were given digital masters and the same time frame (assuming we had a few bad-ass PCs to crank thru some editing and were paid for our time so we could leave some jobs). That I feel is almost certain. I'm not saying their tools are bad, but apparently someone didn't know what they were doing somewhere along the line of production (Vegeta Bukkake scene, anyone?).
And I wouldn't describe them awesome. But they are a good deal in terms of number of episodes versus price.
However, in terms of number of episodes versus price, the DBZ Singles aren't that different than the original prices of the DBZ FUNI DVDs (i.e - its costing me somewhere in the same neighborhood on a per episode basis) You would pay $25 for 3 eps from FUNI... or pay $35 to $40 for 6 eps from the Singles (less for me since I buy them on sale).
And in terms of research, there are PLENTY of thread that compare images, like the following (a personal favorite of mine in terms of comparison):

In my opinion, that's a pretty god-damn big difference to be a tight-ass.

Tell me Vegeta looks like he's been remastered to [sarcasm]owning status[/sarcasm] on the right side of this, which is what's turned up on FUNi's Season 2 release.
How Bulma should look.
Not even a close approximation to the above; we have a missing navel, the writing on a paper blurred into anotha' diemension, and outlines screwed with a nine-inch telecine machine. This's what turned up on Season 2
Yikes, the true reason FUNi chose 16:9, so they could keep Kwee shrouded in mystery! Because Lord knows, none of their other reasons make any sense. >_>
Ehh, that's kinda apples-and-oranges. FUNi's releases of the movies suffer nowhere near the botched treatment the season sets have gotten. If anything, their movie releases are the second best quality legit releases you'll find. Well, maybe third after the upcoming French releases. I do know I prefer the movies in the full-screen format FUNi got their prints in.ect5150 wrote:Gotenks comparison images

So comparing the best available version in the US to the best available version in Japan is apples to oranges?Conan the SSJ wrote:Ehh, that's kinda apples-and-oranges.

Most people here seemed to prefer the UUE releases over the widescreen. If the trends continue, the widescreen treatment of movie 12 will be even worse than the above pics. I think that makes the comparison just fine.

Like all the evidence that you guys post supposedly showing that the set sucks, these are all.. not so good. It's one, or less than one second little glitches that you can't really tell are there unless you are looking for them, and many people here are looking for them. I honestly don't care if for a millisecond a frame gets sloppy. And a part of a head chopped off? Another thing I don't care about, it just doesn't bother me and I don't see why it should bother anyone else. Drastic cut offs with the widescreen barely ever happen, and although I am watching on a widescreen TV, I don't think it either adds or takes away from the DBZ experience.Conan the SSJ wrote:Are they? This forum can be used as research I guess, but since it is all pretty much a one-sided opinion, it can't be all of your research. I've never seen a thread here addressing the pros of these sets, and there are pros.
If you say anything about the corny lines still being in these sets, yeah, that's DBZ. The original Japanese episodes have corny lines.

They're not "one second glitches", they're indicative of the whole product. Some errors are just single frame problems: like the damaged frames and tears, but the above referenced ones are not.
Have you actually watched the boxsets? They're really bad. Besides the obvious cropping, all the colours are darkened, blurred, then washed out.
Noone is saying that you'd be a "bad fan" if you bought the sets (well, one guy is, but he's the exception), we just can't recommend the sets to anyone. I bought the season one set because I wanted the subs. Period. I've got the second season on the way, and I'll get the third season too. Just for the subs.
I can't even watch the season set I have. I haven't seen the episodes in Dragonbox quality myself, but from the screenshots I've seen the old UUE releases are substantially lesser quality. I can watch the UUE episodes, I can see the flaws, but they don't ruin the show. The season one boxset, however, is absolutely terrible. I can't watch it. I can't watch it. It's so ugly it hurts me. Wash-outs, rips, bad colours, worse crops - it's just painful to watch.
And from what I've seen of the season two set, it gets worse.
