Episode #0086 (15 July 2007)

Episode #0086! VegettoEX and Meri give an overview of AnimeNEXT from the DBZ fan's perspective. What events were there, what was there to buy, and how was the Dragon World represented? Big news about Hironobu Kageyama's new theme song for "Sparking! METEOR", other gaming updates, and your e-mails round out the episode. See you at Otakon next week! Referenced sites: Go ahead and grab it. Big thanks to godofchaos for hosting the splendid *eighty-six* episodes, now.

It's crunch time for us (Otakon's next week with a panel to prep for, and the AWA Pro deadline is the day of Otakon x_X), so we had planned on cranking out a short episode. Well, it ended up being a pretty medium-length episode! :D Meri and I gave a quick recap of AnimeNEXT from the DBZ fan's perspective, which included everything from merchandise to cosplay. The big "Sparking! METEOR" news also had some good discussion, as well.

I ripped the audio from the Meteor trailer and put it on my MP3 player, definantly my new favorite song.

And I'm not all too stunned on Nintendo's online. It's anal, and they won't let you swap codes on their website (because they're apparently a form of "personal information").

Same goes. According to iTunes, I listened to it six times at work the other day :P.

I've been listening to it everywhere I go, like 30 times on the way to SandHills (which is like the grand metropolis near our neighborhood, Gamestop next to a movie theater and resturaunts).

And I recently bought a bunch of DBZ Manga I liked there, and I never saw any lightning auras that would indicate Trunks was any sort of Super Saiyajin 2, but that could be the Viz edits.

Awesome podcast as always. I thought the little story with the pyramid man and the "normies" was interesting (for lack of a better word). Creepy, but interesting.

Also, it's good to know that DBZ still gets some love from the con you guys went to. I know that the con I went to barely had anything DBZ. Sure, there was a gashopon here and there, but not much else aside from old FUNi DVDs (which I guess one could say is pretty cool, considering that FUNi's new releases for the series aren't exactly um... good).

EDIT:

Viz may edit out boobies, call Mr. Satan by the H-word and create an all new name for Vegetto, but I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't edit out anyone's aura except for maybe when they're translating the aura's sound effect from Japanese.

And all of those edits are really why I don't trust them with much of anything, because they start to get really 4Kids-ish towards the end, and you never know what the hell would come next.

*gasp* Now I'm not the only one with a 360. Sweet.

Unfortunately, Blue Dragon will be coming out during my family vacation. I might have to bring my 360 with me & find a local Gamespot in Orlando..... Yes, I'm that much of a nerd. Like you guys, I was completely psyched when I heard Hironobu Kageyama in Sparking! METEOR. Sadly, that'll be my only reason to get the game....Yes, I'm really that much of a nerd.

Nice podcast & I'll be at the convention scenes next year.

I'll never understand why Viz will say 'Bra,' but not 'Satan,' yet uncut FUNi will say 'Satan,' but not 'Bra.' (Okay, granted, Viz only had to deal with her and her lovely, lovely name for one chapter, while having to record every line referring to her twice might not exactly be cost effective, but still. Bra's pretty popular in some circles. She might be the only character GT improved upon... )

Still an interesting podcast, and those cosplay pictures are lovely. I've never seen much attention paid to that particular Bulma outfit, though, it's great. The scouter is an especially nice touch!

Would any of you who ripped the audio from the trailer be able to post it for download for those who are less technically adept?

EDIT: Mike, are you gonna download Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting so you can play online?

Haha! I've met the Goten and Trunks cosplayer before.
I saw them at the Toronto Convention Centre during an anime convention last winter. I remember entrance was free too and we were in the Chris Sabat conference.

Could you guys possibly tell me what program you used to rip the song from the Sparking! METEOR trailer? I don't think it's illegal since the song is technically unavailable yet (in CD form or official iTunes download) ...

Thanks in advance.

You can either use a firefox plugin called download helper and then you can convert the video file to MP3 with a program called Mediacoder. Or what I usually do though is use this little program called #1 sound recorder, it's a bit of a chore because you have to play the video and then press record really fast, but it would be better for getting an MP3. Hope I was allowed to share that info.

Edit: The song sounds really cool, I actually want this game cause I am hoping for an original storyline and some new characters. Good episode as usual.

I think the Disc Fusion System will be something like Sonic and Knuckles, where the game has all of the data already stored in it but won't let you access it unless the PS2 reads one of the other discs.

Also, I'm jealous that you guys have an X-Box 360 :([/i]

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I'll probably be adding you on XBL, if I can ever figure out your damn gamer tag. It's so freaking complicated.

You can be jealous of me too, then. I'm getting an Xbox 360 just as soon as I pay my tuition expenses next month. ^_^
