Majin Vegeta question

Post by Thanos6 » Wed Jul 18, 2007 8:52 am

Namely, was he ever actually called Majin Vegeta in Japan, or is it one of those American fan terms that's worked its way into the official terminology?

Either it's the latter, or a mix of both. He was never actually called "Majin Vegeta" in the manga or anime, but the term worked it's way into officialdom somehow, somewhere.

Well, I can tell you it's not an American fanboy term, since we use it in France too.

I don't think it's official, but the reason why it has been adopted is that, well, it makes sense. Contrary to Mystic Gohan for exemple.

I seem to remember this exact question, with very similar responses, some time not too long ago... :?
I think the consensus has been pretty much what's been stated... that it just originated some time shortly after the character first appeared, and since it made too much sense it stuck... and I guess was a reasonable means to refer to the character in Babidi-controled state in official guides and such? *doesn't remember if any such things occured before the US magazines* *would imagine someone else does*

He's called it in Sparking/Budokai Tenkaichi.

I've seen the term "Maouji Vegeta" (Demon Prince) used in Japanese books, but once again that's not something that any character actually calls the form. I think Majin Vegeta works fine, even if it may be fan made.

Well, I'm really no expert in the area of Japanese action figures, but I'm pretty sure "Majin Vegeta" was used in the Super Battle Collection?

"Majin Vegeta" is used everywhere except the series. Then again, so is "Barduck". Take it how you will.

As far as Japan in concerned, I think I've only seen it in recent game guidebooks.

That doesn't ring any bell. Where did you see that?

I don't know if it's used very much, but I do know it was used GT Perfect File #1. In one section it has a listing of which characters have achieved certain levels of Super Saiyan, and under Super Saiyan 2 it includes "Maouji Vegeta"

Today, I found yet another Japanese term for the form we call Majin Vegeta: at my work, there are some Japanese DBZ boxed figures (these ones actually have a picture on the outside so you know what you're getting, yay! Not that I would ever just open a box with a box cutter and tape it back shut if it wasn't the one I wanted for the types where you don't know what you're getting  ) Because I'm weak and can't stop spending money on DBZ stuff, I picked up the Vegeta one, and on the box it calls him "Hakai Ouji Vegeta" (Destruction Prince Vegeta). So, I still haven't seen Japanese merchandise that uses Majin Vegeta....

I just think it's one of those terms that was created by fans or the like to differentiate the character from another form. He's still Vegeta, but becuase of the physical and mental change into a Majin, it's easier to call him Majin Vegeta because he isn't at all like the Vegeta that we have grown accustomed to at this point.

It's like the same thing for other characters, Gohan is never referred to as Mystic, but it's an easy thing for us to remember that specific form by coining the Mystic Gohan name. Perfect Cell is never reffered to as 'Perfect Cell' but just as Cell in his perfect form. Even the different versions of Buu were still referred to as Majin Buu, and not Kid Buu or Super Buu.

With so many characters and transformations, it's just easier to give names to a certain character form to describe him/her.
