So, just got the PM, but I thought I'd ask some questions here (as I'm sure other's have similar questions):
1. Voices: were those voices the R29 dub? They don't sound like us (and the script seemed 'off') are they from a professional dub? Is it the 'Big Green' dub?
2. During the scenes with voices and sound effects: assuming that the voices were from a professional dub, were there any residual music tracks there? That is, is the whole music track from Steven or are there elements from another dub?
3. Can we get a listing of all the music used? (Specifically, the music during the 'snowing' scene. my girlfriend liked it (and she wanted you to know that)).

haha...I know this is unrelated, but I just went to your website and saw that netcast, you and your friend were pretty funny. Especially the part at the end when you're talking about the logo and then it pops up on the screen in all those different styles. Classic.

Back to the subject at hand, I am pretty interested to see how this dub turns out.

Yes, it's from the UK's 'Big Green' dub, which has the original Japanese BGM. I chose this dub to add music to because it doesn't have music in the background constantly (the Japanese soundtrack doesn't have much music), and so we have English voices and sound effects which I can add music to (I could've used FUNimation's dub with the original Japanese BGM (does it exist?), but I don't own that). Also, when you're watching the video and then the sound effects and voices suddenly disappear, that means there was the original Japanese music track there.desirecampbell wrote:So, just got the PM, but I thought I'd ask some questions here (as I'm sure other's have similar questions):

100% of it is from me, yes. (Except the ending credits- that's original)Desiré wrote:2. Funimation did do an uncut dub of movie 3 with Pioneer which had the original Japanese BGM before they replaced the Ocean cast. However, their current dub with Sabat and the others has some kind of dub music.Steven Perry wrote:(I could've used FUNimation's dub with the original Japanese BGM (does it exist?), but I don't own that).

UPDATE
(Yeah, I think composing our own music is a bit beyond our abilites... Unless anyone is REALLY good with GarageBand...)
Okay, guys. I'm assuming that, at this point, everyone is starting to get settled in to the new school year and such, and will soon have a little more time on their hands. So starting this weekend, when I'm FINALLY free from work and school crap for a few days, I'm going to kick this project back into gear again if it kills me. AND I'll get Chapter 7 of my fanfic finished, AND I'll get at least one of Xyex's art comissions done, AND I'll end world hunger! GRRRRAAAH!
I'm going to be sending out update e-mails to everyone either tomorrow or Saturday, but rather than type much out in the body, I'll just mainly include a link to this message, as this contains just about everything important at the moment.
To start, there's one big but simple thing I want all our Voice Actors to do, if they haven't already:
GET SKYPE.
Now that you've followed that link, set the installer to start downloading, and come back to continue reading, I'd like to clear up a thing or two about Skype.
First off, ignore what you're seeing and sweating over on the main page, there. Skype is CHEAP AS FREE. The prices and such are referring to the option of signing up to use Skype to actually make and take phone calls. I doubt any of us have any interest in that, so just ignore it.
Second, and this was apparently what a few people are thinking, we will NOT be using Skype to actually record lines for the movie. Rather, we will be using it for group voice conferences so that we can coach and critique each other, rather than, as someone said earlier, going through the hassle of a "practice, record, upload, critique, repeat" process on the forum.
So I'm envisioning that we (Myself, Kino, and I'm thinking maybe Kirbopher, too, as this stuff's his forte) will set up to meet with one or several of you at a time on Skype, and have an all-out character-voice-fest. Afterwards, once we've spent time tweaking and perfecting things, you head off to record. If the video editors have any problems with fitting specific lines, then we can just get you to rerecord a few.
As you may have concluded from this, I'm kind of past the idea of posting voice samples, since nobody, save of course for Ms. Chuquita, seems capable of taking 15 minutes to simply record and post 2 or 3 lines. As such, we'll just do this the old-fashioned-but-not way; actually talking to you, but through a chat program.
I'm insistent on using Skype because it's centered around voice chatting, and does so at a very good quality, so we can get a better sense of your character voice without having to worry about accounting for sound quality. That, and it's simple to use, not to mention quite smexy-looking.
So guys, try to grab that and figure it out. I'll try to be on Skype myself as often as possible every day, so you can get in touch with me. Not for in-depth voice critiquing, since we'll be actually trying to schedule those, but I can help you with a problem or give a quick listen to something if you want. I'm serious, get it, and PM me your handle once you have (You don't have to post it here if you don't want to). Kino just gave me an up-to-date contact list, and I want to have added EVERYONE'S Skype handle by this time next week. If you've got a computer and a microphone, you can get and use Skype. If not, then how the hell did you end up as a voice actor?
*cracks whip* Get to it! Once everyone has it, we'll start setting up conference times.
On to the next order of business.
In further regards to voice recording, I got a hold of Mr. Announcer the other day, and she said she's still up for singing Cha La Head Cha La, if we really want her to. I'm assuming we still do, at least if just for our "new BGM" version. Also, we need to decide on the details for that, such as which instrumental version we want to use, and whether or not she'll be singing it in Japanese or English. What do you guys think?
Also, Mr. A, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to keep practicing (as if most of us don't find ourselves singing "Cha La" to ourselves all day anyway... I know I do...), and we wouldn't mind hearing what you can REALLY do, since, if I recall correctly, you said you weren't being very loud because of other people in the house?
Next, Acid, how's the VRG looking? Yay, Nay, or "AAAAUGHDHKlolCSdkasukdh1as2f6sa87dsabj?" Please try to keep us updated and let us know if there's any way we can help.
Either way, people, those of you have a copy of the movie don't really need it, so you don't have to wait. So try to getchaself hooked up wit' Skype, so we can get your character voice brushed up on and finalized, and start recording, already. >_<;;
Come to think of it, when you PM me with your Skype handle, let me know if you have a copy of the movie you can work off of or not, too.
Uh, next.
Steven, could you resend me that banner you came up with but I said was a little too big for forum sigs? I have use of it... >_> I need it as early as possible tomorrow.
Like I said, I'm at class right now, but if I discover when I get home that I already have it, I'll let you know.
Next, we have to decide on one, two, or maybe three final designs for the posters. I, personally, would like to keep the one Shinpan and I started (as in ONE design using that artwork; we've ended up with several...), the Ozaru Gohan one, and the one with Tullece on the bridge. Whichever we keep, we need to get them finalized and start distributing them. I know there's a few text details we don't quite have finalized yet, but hopefully...
Once we start recording, we can estimate when the project will be done and put up for viewing online. I'm thinking 'Spring 2008' is the safest bet at this point. Or if you guys are REALLY ambitious, we could set a goal and shoot for a specific release date, like Valentine's Day, or even New Year's or something. What do you think?
Also to put on the poster would be a few as of yet unresolved credits. And that brings me to my next subject. The voids in our voice roster. I'll have to give all (3) parties who have submitted samples for Kaio and/or Shenlong another listen when I get home. But for now, I think it's safe to pick a Shenlong.
So I'm going to as a vote for you guys first. I put these up for you guys on the last page, but nobody responded. So here it is again. Do you want, as Shenlong:
Omegacw
or
Swift?
No more submissions for Shenlong; let's just pick one of these guys, either one of them will do great.
That still leaves King Kai. Anyone who thinks they could do it, please, there's still time to try out for it. Just record and post a sample or two here.
Helldog and Prince Vegeta, I'll have to give you guys' samples another few listens later tonight or tommorow. Desire, even if you don't think it's good, I'd still like to hear what you can do for Kaio anyway.
I'm pretty sure that's everything. So, in summary...

If you can't tell, I am kinda new here. (I'd like to say more of a lurker =)
On to the point, I saw the other guys post saying he was using copy righted music, just mixed together, and I would like to point out that I wouldn't mind trying to come up with some original music for the new dub (if I can get hold of some synth software this weekend). I have done plenty of mixing in my free time and have used anvil studio several times in the past, so I have had experience with music before. If any of the "managers" would like to hear a sample, please post or I will assume that my help is unneeded. If you want me to post a sample, what should it sound like? (Original DBZ or DUB DBZ?) I also haven't seen the movie y'all are doing (I stuck to the main anime), so maybe compare what you want with something pre-gralic jr. saga so I can compare.

I've put Steven Perry in charge of the music, so you'll have to talk to him about it.

*shouts*falconer! one or two tracks of his could go well with that movie. But, a dramatic silence would work even better during many moments.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Re: UPDATE
I don't really mind if it's in English or Japanese. Wait, I know . . . let's get Mr. A to sing both versions (English and Japanese), and decide which one works best? As for which instrumental to use . . . I have no idea what you're talkin' about (there's different instrumentals?!). All I know is that it needs to fit in with movie 3's unique opening sequence. Is the movie's opening sequence as long as the original Head-Cha-La? If not, we'll have to edit the instrumental ourselves.SSj Kaboom wrote:Also, we need to decide on the details for that, such as which instrumental version we want to use, and whether or not she'll be singing it in Japanese or English. Which one of those do you prefer? For me, it's the one I posted two pages back. Yeah, just a few text details: we need our Kaio, Shenron, and the name of Tenken. But . . . Tenken hasn't been to the site in AGES. Is he out of the project? Can we rely on him? He's got a big job . . . if he's hardly ever here, we can't keep him on the team!Kaboom wrote:...the Oozaru Gohan one, and the one with Tullece on the bridge. I have a feeling, as time goes on, that the cast is gonna change. This'll be AFTER the posters are distributed, and so there's no goin' back and editing the credits! So, how about we cut the credits down to only the 'important' cast, which we also know will stay with us and are most reliable. This is what's done in most movie posters- they put the main cast in the poster, and the rest of the cast in the credits of the movie. And on top of that, the credits are taking up waaaay too much space on the posters. How about it?

New Year's sounds great.Kaboom wrote:Once we start recording, we can estimate when the project will be done and put up for viewing online. I'm thinking 'Spring 2008' is the safest bet at this point. That reminds me . . . how about that other concept me and Kino were working on? Kino's been avoiding me for a while, but if she can get me in her drawings for it soon, I can get it done quite quickly for possible distribution (if you like it, that is).Kaboom wrote:Steven and everyone: Let's decide on final Posters
Unless you can compose to the standards of the music that I'm already using, I don't think I'll be using your music.RPGKing4 wrote:On to the point, I saw the other guys post saying he was using copy righted music, just mixed together, and I would like to point out that I wouldn't mind trying to come up with some original music for the new dub (if I can get hold of some synth software this weekend). I have done plenty of mixing in my free time and have used anvil studio several times in the past, so I have had experience with music before. If any of the "managers" would like to hear a sample, please post or I will assume that my help is unneeded. If you want me to post a sample, what should it sound like? (Original DBZ or DUB DBZ?) I also haven't seen the movie y'all are doing (I stuck to the main anime), so maybe compare what you want with something pre-gralic jr. saga so I can compare.

. . . I take it you never checked out my 'tests' that have been up on YouTube for nearly a year? Anyway, what did you think of the final 20 mins of the movie that I PMed you?Acid_Reign wrote:...
You're kidding, right?
This entire time I was (as I'm sure many others were) under the impression that you were indeed going to compose the music yourself.

Re: UPDATE
Not to sound like a negative nancy, but the music sources you have used feel completely overblown when put up against the movie itself.Steven Perry wrote: . . . I take it you never checked out my 'tests' that have been up on YouTube for nearly a year?
The original score of movie 3 was so good (to me atleast) because of the buildup, some of the pieces had, in the example of yours I viewed it was just minute after minute of swelling orchestral music, which didn't fit the movie that well, and at several points overpowered the visuals.
Anyway, sorry if I sound overly negative, I just felt like throwing in my two cents.
