Season Four set arrives 2/19/2008
Moderators: Kanzenshuu Staff, General Help
I think this long wait is good. We had to wait 4 months for Season 3, and that ended up looking way better than the previous two sets. Maybe this time, they'll do away with their current prints actually restore it!
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Won't happen. First off, they don't have the balls to put forth a budget for a true frame-by-frame remastering effort. And second: Remember, they swore to be consistent with these releases, and they've already paid for the whole series to be run through them VP&T machines. FUNi won't be changing the format of the new releases anymore than Gen Fukunaga would make a sex tape with Chris Sabat.jjgp1112 wrote:I think this long wait is good. How the hell do you think Sabat got his damn job in the first place!? You think he was hired because of his talent and versatility to play many diverse roles? HA!Conan the SSJ wrote:Won't happen. Wow...I don't even want to start trashing the voice actors. They are doing their job and the dub is a lot better than most dubs anyway, like it or not really. I mean has anyone heard the Naruto dub? Geez.
They will be consistent with the releases, they already did the whole process. And how was the Frieza Saga looking better than the others? Looks like they did the same. It's just because the show naturally progressed. Even on the originals, the artwork and picture quality was better. It has nothing to do with their wonderful little washing machine that washes out the colors.

I kid because I love... well not love. That would be an outright lie. I don't love the voices on the dub, but I can appreciate the effort that they put forward. And I definitely don't hold anything against the voice actors themselves.TheGreatness25 wrote:Wow...I don't even want to start trashing the voice actors. The Naruto dub is great.TheGreatness25 wrote:I mean has anyone heard the Naruto dub? Geez.

Dub wise I've heard better way better. DBZ's dub is nowhere near even Fatal Fury the Motion Picture's. Which had a good dub IMO, there were great performances and good acting, even though the Japanese audio track was better. It's just they they do things in the Dragonball related dubs that they don't do in any other dub that's very annoying. They need to lay off the grunts and the vocalization of, everything. This is the only dub that I've ever heard that every conceivable thing that you can do vocally is done. That's not a good thing either because in the end it sounds really fake and extremely foolish. And then combined with the dub's music...well I'm not getting into that.

Watch the Japanese one first, then watch the dub and you'll see what I mean. The Ryo Horikawa and Miss Nozawa sound way more realistic when they vocalize their grunts and movements. But then again I'm comparing veteran seiyuus at the time when DBZ was first airing, to actors that only had 2 or so years under their belt when DBZ's Buu saga was dubbed into English, so naturally they wouldn't sound as good.

Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

You're right, the dub is worse. Except for one part: the dub got my heart pounding. And when I'm watching two super-powered characters beating each others' brains out, I prefer the loud, over-the-top crap to "Mmmyes, quite. I say, Rutherford, the vocal talent here is marvelous. And the composition is indeed erudite *sniff, tweak mustache*"Vekurotto wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99nPi2bT2zc

So what if the dub is Armageddon to the original's Deep Impact. I always liked Armageddon better.

Mm...I not saying that, but I saying that it's goofy in the end. And as unrealistic DBZ is, the seiyuus try and put some realism with their voices and actions...unlike the dub.Rocketman wrote:"Mmmyes, quite. I say, Rutherford, the vocal talent here is marvelous. Any word yet on how far Season 4 will go? I'm expecting this to end when they find Cell's cocoon.

And this is an American made cartoon made before the dub of DBZ ever existed. And it has talking animals and it has more realistic sounding voices. What would you say about this if they tried to make everybody sound like stereotypes?TheGreatness25 wrote:...They make it unrealistic? Guys it's a cartoon. I get what you're saying, but aren't most of the actors doing the originals more experienced? Plus most of the voice actors in the movie linked are actual actors in live action performances with years of training whereas the FUNi dub VAs are pretty much bums of the street.Vekurotto wrote:And this is an American made cartoon made before the dub of DBZ ever existed. Exactly. The acting in cartoons can be good, it just wasn't in DBZ.Anonymous Friend wrote:I get what you're saying, but aren't most of the actors doing the originals more experienced? (é) Yeah, I'm famous. Super famous. I start things.

The dub would be many times better (Even retaining the corny dialogue) if the acting were consistently better. That's my only real beef with the dub; the voices themselves are fine and fitting and fun, but the acting and directing is horrible.desirecampbell wrote:Exactly.
