What happened to the DBZ Wiki article?

Post by balrog » Fri Nov 09, 2007 11:44 pm

From what I gather, there was some issue with citing sources. But chopping up the whole article? It's all lists now, barely any text.

Pretty sad.

Does anyone here still work on the Project? I've been fucked by constant work for the last... year or so, so I haven't been paying much attention (though I may have more time soon to devote).

Yes. Actually, I removed myself from the project cuz it is getting ridiculous, but I have been arguing with this "Lord Sesshomaru" guy behind the raping of that article. He claims it was all fancruft, and reduced it to a list of songs, actors, and a section on the live-action film.

Nice to see you here Onikage, I've also objected to Lord Sesshomaru raping the crap out of the articles (me: VorangorTheDemon). The articles look like sh*t because of him, however, I also understand that he's only doing what Wikipedia requires him to do. It's not so much the editing that's the problem, it's these ridiculous guidelines and policies that need to be followed in order for the article to make FA or even GA; but I most certianly agree that Lord Sesshomaru goes way overbaord with following the guidelines and policies.
That's why last week I just talked to him about me leaving there. There's like three of us there now, me, him, and DBZROCKS.

Agreed. Wikipedia has become infested with "Fun Destroyers" who want to take out any dram of enjoyment people have in it.

Oh man that really sucks. Still, you can search up the specifics that you need. Like if you wanna know about Goku, look up Goku, or Vegeta, etc. You can look up the Sagas too. Wow, Wikipedia has gone crappy (with DBZ).

Ah! Good to see you as well! I appreciate the handle and avatar by the way (from one "demon" to the other).

One thing about those damn guidelines (honestly the bane of my existence since I started working with DBZ articles) is that they do allow flexibility in some regard. "Ignore All Rules" was made, in my opinion, for situations just like these. And other anime articles garner GA and FA status while being written and maintained similar to how many of us want Dragon Ball articles to be.

I think the problem is that this fandom is so fractured to begin with that everyone has a differing view on what info to include or not, and even which version to follow.

Shit, really? I'm losing my job on the 30th, and I'll have loads more time after that to help out with the Project. And I will. I helped start this, I'll help fix it - just give me some time.

Why Yamucha? I thought Wikipedia normally went by the manga names of characters, but this is the first time I've ever seen anyone call him that.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

As Kunzait's statement implies, it is "Pui Pui."

His name is Puipui. I think it's derived from a phrase from a magical girl show, but I don't know remember which one off hand. (I have it written down somewhere, though.)

As for Yamucha, it's just the Japanese approximation of the Cantonese term "yamcha," so I don't see how "yamucha" can really be called more correct. And Clyde (mostly) used the same name spellings Steve used for the sake of consistency, so that's technically only one of two official sources.

I just reverted the article for the second time. The article matches with the guidelines and every other anime related article on the set. If Sesshomaru reverts it again I'll be reporting him for vandilisim becuase that's what his 'edits' are, plain and simple.

Wikipedia is pissing me off as far as Dragon Ball goes lately as well. There are no longer half the pages for characters any more and every time you go into detail they delete it. Honestly, I understand that they want to prevent useless information directed at fan groups only, but most of the time my edits aren't even that long. a lot of articles are getting chopped to the point of not being useful.

Also, in the "action figure" article some guy with a Zarbon fettish refuses to stop putting back up a picture of a Zarbon figure. We all like DBZ figures, but they don't define action figure, especially a henchmen. If you agree, any help with this point would be appreciated.

I hope this all gets straightened out, because I really like Wikipedia and am an advocate of it being a resource for general Dragon Ball info. I'm there under the same name if anyone wants to contact me.

This place is bare bones (if that) at the moment and really needs knowledgable fans like y'all to help.

I also noticed that all of the separate saga articles got severely butchered. There isn't even a good coherent article after Garlic Jr.
