Because you're a fan and it's worth it to you? Not everyone wants to choose the cheapest root; some people like saving up for quality releases.jjgp1112 wrote:Why would you spend over 100 bucks on a TV show set in the first place?
I don't really see why it's such a big deal that people spend money on things they like. Personally, I've never made a lot of money, when I made any at all, but I still dumped/dump lots of money on Dragon Ball, because it's worth it to me. There are a handful of other shows besides Dragon Ball that I've also invested/will invest a lot of money into buying on DVD, because they're also worth it to me. I'd much rather do that than spend 60 bucks a month on cable TV and not watch 99% of what's on.

I got the UUE of DBZ on tape from the airings on Cartoon Network.Conan the SSJ wrote:You won't have uncut, 4:3 versions of episodes 28-67. >>TheGreatness25 wrote:Actually just a couple of weeks ago I went crazy with my money. I wanted to have the original DVDs because I was on the fence about the "Remastered" version and finally decided to get both. So I got what I was missing from the series practically at the same time. Ebay is awesome. I got the Ultimate Uncut series, Freeza Saga, Cell Games, Majin Buu Saga (the 7 DVDs of it that come before the Fusion Saga), and the Great Saiyaman Saga. All were brand new factory sealed except the Freeza Saga, but couldn't expect it to be new. The others were basically sold by a store that had many of them. Soon as I bought, he put another up, so that means he had a bunch of them laying around. So now I'll have both versions
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

As for spending money on Dragon Boxes...what's the problem? Yes, they're expensive as all hell, but if you want the show the way it was meant to be seen (ha!), this is the only way to go. If you have the money, and are willing to spend it, I don't see what the problem is...

I just remember about a small discussion with my friend about dragon ball. When i have bought the season 1 boxet for $70, and shown it to my friend, he told me: "Why are you buying dragonball-dvds when you can download it?" ....0_0 *shoked*....i know he earns enough money to buy the whole series of DB, but he thinks, buying dvds is trashing money. i know i can download the series but i won't because of 3 reasons:
1. What if i got a virus (by accident), that "kills" my harddisk where i downloaded hardly, with lack of peers, all the DB/Z/GT episodes? And in that time i was in a shop to buy some dvd-r's to make backups later.........Should i go back to the beginning and start downloading them again? NO, definetly not.
2. do you learn something by downloading?.....-_- NO! When you buy the dvd's and are not that satisfied with the image-quality, then try to remaster it, if you can. While the remastering-process you learn, how to use the right filters, what is deinterlacing, what is interlacing, etc.!. its better to do something then do nothing. Just remember that the dvds are copyrighted

3. A big DB-fan shouldnt download the episodes illegal.
EDIT: Sorry about my english
LAst week i have just received my first japan R2 Dvd DragonBall Vol. 1 *wohoo!! 25 volumes remeaning* :p

But 1600 bucks? If you had an apartment, you'd probably have to not pay rent for about 3 months!TripleRach wrote:Because you're a fan and it's worth it to you? And if you have an apartment, you probably have money to spend on things you like. Is it worth the cash to you? That's the only question you need to ask yourself. You've seen the video comparisons, you have all the facts - now it's just a judgment call.jjgp1112 wrote:But 1600 bucks? It can happen, but that's the chance you take with viewing this webpage too. One would assume that you'd only download from reliable sources.RVE wrote:1. Good point - but not really anything you'd need to worry about usually. One would assume that you would download Dragonbox-based videos. Again, "reliable sources".RVE wrote:2. do you learn something by downloading?.....-_- NO! Illegal is as illegal does. I don't want to get into that discussion again, but filesharing isn't illegal everywhere. Hell, even here in Canada, it's unclear (except that the RCMP isn't going to prosecute anyone).RVE wrote:3. A big DB-fan shouldnt download the episodes illegal.
Not that I want to push anyone into filesharing, I just want everyone to know the facts. My personal suggestion is to get the Dragonboxes (if you can find them, your best bet is probably the R2 singles). I mean, I fucking love my Dragonbox! And you will too!

Well most people who would want to get the whole Dragon Ball series on DVD (people under the age of 21 probably) do earn minimum wage. I'm sorry but I don't I want to meet the 25 year old that wants to run out and buy the next installment of the series...well...I guess that's fine. I should rephrase. I don't want to meet the 25 year old who is too overly obsessed with it.

The series ended in 1997. That was nearly ten years ago. Remember that the Dragon Box sets are intended for people that remember the series from their childhood and can afford to pay for it. It's not for the kiddies. Also remember that it's not impossible for people outside of Japan to have gotten into the series before FUNimation got it, placing them in that same demographic as the Japanese fans.TheGreatness25 wrote:Well most people who would want to get the whole Dragon Ball series on DVD (people under the age of 21 probably) do earn minimum wage.

Well, that's a fine generalization. Personally, I started working when I was 15. The minimum wage was what, $5.85 an hour? At that point in time, I made $7.25 an hour. Now, I'm nearly 24 and I make...well, a lot more than that.TheGreatness25 wrote:Well most people who would want to get the whole Dragon Ball series on DVD (people under the age of 21 probably) do earn minimum wage.
I guess your generalization has DragonBall fans living in their parents' basements (or homes in general), whereas I moved out within a couple of weeks of turning 18. Sorry to shatter your hypothesis.
You're on the wrong boards then, bubI'm sorry but I don't I want to meet the 25 year old that wants to run out and buy the next installment of the series...well...I guess that's fine. I should rephrase. I don't want to meet the 25 year old who is too overly obsessed with it.

Thats right. I am 21 at the moment and i still love DB/Z.It's not for the kiddies.
by the way: Is the image-quality on the singles the same as DragonBox? Or is there a difference? Not that I want to push anyone into filesharing, I just want everyone to know the facts. You don't get what I'm saying. I meant like overly obsessed with DBZ. Like waiting for it to come on every Sunday on Toonami or whatever. That type of obsessed. I like DBZ and I like talking about it, and I enjoy it, but it doesn't consume my life where I sit here thinking about theories that lead up to all of the fantasy elements of it.

What makes you think it consumes anyone's life just because they buy a Dragon Box? I mean, you're talking to the same types of people as you are, yourself. Kinda like the pot calling the kettle black.TheGreatness25 wrote:You don't get what I'm saying. I meant like overly obsessed with DBZ. Your statements aren't making any sense what-so-ever; every single one of your generalizations has been debunked. You're absolutely right that I don't get what you're saying.
