Where's Rick when you need him?Kendamu wrote:Actually, I always wanted a black guy to be cast as Piccolo.Bura wrote:I do think Mai looks pretty asian. And hey, what do you know. They casted an asian actor for her
But seriously, does it matter what kind of race they casted? Should they have casted an actual Namek for Piccolo?
/off-topic. I'm not going to engage in any of the argument over whether this movie will be any good or not (anymore than I have already), so I'm just going to sit and wait for the next update. If anyone's picked up the TV Guide with Marster's comments, though, I'd love to see that. *still hasn't been able to pick it up* @.@
Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

See, this is one of the things I was talking about. Every tiny little thing is blown fifty times out of proportion and then used as a basis for complaints. But, some of the changes made here are pretty much the equivalent of making Batman a government operative that sports a submachine gun and fights against giant monsters on a weekly basis.
Uhhhh, what? Piccolo reveals Goku is a Saiya-jin but that's the closest he comes to Raditz (last I checked, he wasn't Goku's brotherAs for that news tidbit, it still seems that Piccolo Daimao is supposed to be a green Raditz/Freeza fusion.
....... Last I checked the plot, characters, and setting were exactly the fucking same.Good. Remember the facts like 'the plot, characters, and setting is completely different'? Remember that one?

<Xyex> Original Freeza never sounded like a chick to me.
<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.

Or giving Spider-Man organic webshooters and having him meet MJ in high school.Xyex wrote:See, this is one of the things I was talking about. The changes seen in the movie would be like moving Bruce out of his mansion and into an apartment in Gotham's suburbs and making him friends with his neighbour across the hall who no one has ever heard of before. Yep, massive changes, that.

Wait a second...
I say no one says anything about the movie being good or bad until the day after it's released. Nobody says it will be good, and no one says it will be bad. Condemn/Praise the choices that are being made in creating the film, not the overall quality of it. No on can say it will be bad, and no one can say it will be good, because none of you have seen the movie. Who knows? It could end up being the best thing ever, or it could be a steaming pile of crap that makes the Chinese LAM look like freaking Star Wars.
There, I said it >.<
EDIT:
There, I said it >.<
EDIT:
I actually liked that better than the original, its a lot cooler and convinient.(I mean, wouldn't you rather have them built in than have to make them yourself?)Or giving Spider-Man organic webshooters and having him meet MJ in high school.

But the fact that he did said more about him as a character. In the comics, Peter's a genius, and the fact that he was able to create web-blasters all on his own is testimony to that (howsoever he managed to fund their development). This enabled him to consistently come up with improvements and alterations to their design and function as he encountered more formidable opponents along the way. He'd actually have to reload if he ran out of webbing, which would spell trouble if he was in a bind. And in addition to all this superhero stuff, he still also had to face the day-to-day problems of being an average student.Rocketman wrote:I certainly liked it better than a broke 15-year-old whipping up some supertech in his aunt's attic.Big Momma wrote:I actually liked that better than the original, its a lot cooler and convinient.(I mean, wouldn't you rather have them built in than have to make them yourself?)
In the movie, they don't play up this side of the character at all: he's just an average nerd who gets lucky enough to wake up with a six-pack and spinnerets in his wrists. While it is a "minor change" that his transformation was purely biological rather than radioactive/technical (though at least when this plot device was used in the 2099 storyline it actually made sense, as that was intentional genetic engineering as opposed to mere accident), it still alters the character in a significant way. Personally, I find the original much more interesting, and I feel that the same elements could have been employed to great effect in a film. A lot of people are very forgiving of changes in movie adaptations because they so often occur, and although they are useful for compressing the story into an hour-and-a-half time slot, they aren't always necessary.
The fact of the matter is, when you mess with an established character or plot line, it upsets people. There's a reason these stories are so successful, and it's because they're already good at drawing people in. Although none of us know for sure what the final product is going to look like, based on the information we have it is logical to conclude that this will not be the same Goku et al. we have grown to know and love. While some may not care about such details, for a lot of us it means the experience will not be as good as it would have otherwise been.

Those are actually rather key things to the Batman character.Xyex wrote:See, this is one of the things I was talking about. 1. No mansion. Why doesn't he have the family mansion? Is he not rich? That would be a huge change to the batman character (an interesting one, never the less), does he not have a Batcave (another huge part of the character)? Is this simply him 'moving out' of his parents' house? That would be simply odd, and completely out of character.
2. Friends? Do you mean actual friendship? Because Batman doesn't make friends - that's a big part of the character. Bruce Wayne has dozens (if not hundreds) of acquaintances - he's a socialite, because he needs to be to draw attention away from him, perhaps, being Batman.
These changes equate quite well with the DBZ Live Action film - but I think you've failed to actually think about what these changes mean to the character and sensibleness of the plot.

Further - noone's saying that 'changes are bad - can't have changes', we're unhappy with these specific changes. These are things that either make no sense, or are completely out of character. Goku in school? Mai shapeshifting? Piccolo from space, with ninja henchmen?
The 'Yamcha as a bully'-thing is stupid, but it's a good fit, working around the school backdrop. It's not perfect, but it's not ridiculously stupid either. Bandit/Bully is pretty easy to match up. It's no more stupid than the 'school'-thing.

And Batman has put TwoFace away repeatedly, without hesitation, since then. And He also has a kryptonite ring, if Supes ever needs to be taken down.JulieYBM wrote:Bats and Supes won't admit it but last I checked they were pretty tight, not to mention Bats is friends with Dent before he went nuts.
There are exceptions - but Batman, as a rule, is not a friendly guy.

All they said about Yamcha is that he taunts them at first when they are trapped in a sand cave, but later joins them.
It's almost exactly like the manga!
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.
Well, maybe I'm wrong but I think you can at least call Alfred his...well, somebody he can trust.
Anyway, Marsters for Kami-sama!!!
If there's one thing I'd like to see future films deal with it is the Kami-Piccolo Jr. relationship. I've always though Toriyama missed out on a great father-son dynamic between the two.

He was, but I think Desire says with the intention that even Piccolo Daimao didn't know he was from space. At the time, he was perceived to be a Demon King, not an alien. But hence it's an adaptation, so blah.KinoFourpaws wrote:Wait, I thought he WAS from space?desirecampbell wrote:Piccolo from space, with ninja henchmen?

Yeah, I was gonna say... if they're going with the idea that Goku's an alien right off the bat instead of working up from his Monkey King background, wouldn't it... kind of make sense that they approach Piccolo's origins the same way, anyway? Yeah, I know, they're not covering the aspect of his previously supposed origins and how that shaped his character initially, but you've got to remember, if you accept what happens in the storyline after Z starts, the fact that he turns out to be an alien ends up superseding the "Demon King" part of his history for the most part, anyway... if that makes any sense.Sebastian (SB) wrote:He was, but I think Desire says with the intention that even Piccolo Daimao didn't know he was from space.
