What does that have to do with Goku's voice?
In the beginning when Goku was a child, he was voiced by a woman. This seems fine to everyone. As he gets older, the voice is changed slightly to show that he is aging, but it is still high compared to most men.
'Goku sounds like a woman' isn't fair. 'Goku sounds like he did as a child, but slightly deeper' is more accurate. The former complaint only comes up because people don't know that Goku was ever a child. Any other cartoon where we start with children and then age do the exact same thing with the voices.

^Dragonbox elitists.
I hope somebody got the "^" joke
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

American audiences arent used to male adults being played by females. In America mostly only male characters under 15 are done by females.
Kenshin Himura is also done by a woman in Japan and a man in the US

Look at Bart Simpson. He's voiced by a woman, and still is in all of the futuire stuff. That's what he means.

Well, with Bart, and most Simpsons characters, it's hard to think of them being voiced by anyone else.
Though with DB, the closest to also having a character voiced by a woman, then by a man, when he's older, is Takeru "T.K." Takaishi from Digimon. In both English and Japanese, he was voiced by a woman in season 1, and by a man in season 2 which took place 4 years later. Interestingly enough, Izzy and Japanese Tai who were older than him and voiced by women were still voiced by women in season 2.

I'll bite, since B-kun already quoted me on it anyway.
Another thing that really pisses me off is all the "GOKUO IS 2 HIGH PITCH IN JAPANEEZ!!!!" All I have to say to that is, "And Schemmel isn't?" It's not like he's Tony Jay or Thurl Ravenscroft or something. Hell, Nadolny's Gokuu is probably deeper than his. And Nozawa has a fairly deep voice for a woman, so I can't even fathom who or what the people who complain about this are comparing her to. If it's Schemmel, then that's just hypocritical to me.

I'm starting to think some of it is just language sounds. As odd as Schemmel's "rrrrrrrrrRRRRrrrr" noises are, JPN Goku's "kkkkkGKGKGkkkk" comes closer to the noise the cat makes after licking itself.
Actually, maybe I've been listening to the wrong clips. Does Japanese have an inordinate amount of throaty noise? Like clearing-the-throat noise, kgk? Seems like it.
So, higher-than-accustomed-to-voice plus kgk is received as "I don't like this, it grates on my ears" which gets distilled to a short pithy grawr for internet reposting.

I don't really hate anything about the DBZ fandom. Sure, it has it's problems. Things that I see as bullshit arguments break out, but that's what happens with anything.
I just like Dragonball Z in any language or color and I'm glad that a fan community actually still exists.

Are you sure this is not self-precieved? Are you talking about how some fans don't count filler in discussion of canon elements? This is not saying that "it sucks", it is just saying that it's "not canon", which really... it isn't.
For example, you can't use the "Otherworld Tournament" arc as proof that Freeza has a body in Hell, when... he really just dose not. It directly contradicts not only the manga...but also a previous episode of the anime as well. It's just a big dumb-dumb fest, and yes Pikon is an ugly, uninspired Piccolo clone... right down to having a big fight with Goku at a martial arts tournament, and taking off his weighted clothing (which even includes a Piccolo-esque turban.)
Actually, I guess you've brought to light an example of what I hate about the Dragonball community that I forgot to mention. Those who thinks it's O.K. to piss all over Toriyama's masterfully crafted story, by embracing brain-numbingly bad filler material in the anime. After all, we all know that #8 had two creators, do I happen to be correct?

I dont believe theyve shown Bart past highschool age. Mabey as an adult once or twice. But I know when they show him as a teenager they use his childish voice to show he never really grows up.
Its the same with Goku. He may get stronger as he grows up, but he still has the brains of a 12 year old.

[quote="Vekurotto"]My main problem has to be the people that fall into these categories
2) The ones that never watched Dragonball despite that Dragonball Z makes no sense without it either because it's "too boring" and it doesn't have enough action scenes or *insert random stupid shit here*.

"Yamcha banging the maid, Bulma catching him, and slapping him and making out with Vegeta"
That's why I hate most DBZ High fanfics, they ignore the aspects of Dragonball and make Bulma love Vegeta and turn Yamcha into "the women-banging manwhore bootylicking nazi creep" from the BV fanfics that we all love to hate.
That's what pisses me off, the obessessive BulmaxVegeta and GokuxVegeta fanbase and the inognorance that Dragonball was the prequel to DBZ, not their precious "Kakarot making out with Mary-sue on Planet Vegeta" or "DBZ High" fanfics.

Whoa, perfect thread. First off, I hate the fans picking sides when it comes to how you follow the series (Original anime to Funi or fansubs, Viz to scanslations and things like that) because people think if you follow the series a certain way or prefer some terms over others, they are the “better fan” and it’s kinda pointless/sad. DragonBall/Z had like 500 something chapters and is great in its own right but fans and haters alike give it such a shitty rep with “hur hur, Namek was like a billion episodes”, “Over 9,000”, “Goku can like totally rape Naruto”, and crap like that.
I think one of my biggest problems with DB/Z’s fanbase is the same repetitive rants and misconceptions over a series that should be enjoyed for entertainment purposes only. The unnecessary fan pairings and AUs kinda kill something that went on (way) longer than it should have and the games are an overkill putting DB/Z in the same league as Madden and NBA Live.
All I’ll say is some post Cell Saga to GT rants are granted but it’s all a matter of point of view…all except the new movie: It’s unforgivable. Goku in high school? Fail. No Krillin. Abomination. If anything, I really wanna know how the creator, Akira Toriyama, sees what his fanbase is like or how it has become.

The biggest thing that pisses me off about the fandom is the frequent misconception that Toriyama intended Dragon Ball to be a fighting series. Toriyama just wanted it to be a random adventure story, however it only got its overwhelming popularity when people saw the fighting in it.
General anime cosplayers piss me off the most out of anything, I've always seen cosplay for what it really is: a geeky over-obsession.
Armaggeddon's International Kamehameha Competition: and most of all, people going to Armaggeddon for the soul purpose of participating in this thing. Good lord! That's f*ckin geeky. And the worst part of it is, not only is it as geeky as cosplay, but I have NEVER seen a single finalists in that competition even perform the Kamehameha correctly (Dude, I haven't gone there physically, my means of knowing all this is called YouTube). I love Dragon Ball, but I'm not about to embarrass myself with something like that.
Another thing that pisses me off about the fandom is the constant Broly glorification. The guy is nothing more then the Incredible Hulk with blonde hair.

Hey I love you too.
I guess our opinions are quite similar really since that's what I've always viewed us all as having since we regularly come here to discuss and debate aspects of a 20 year-old Japanese kid's cartoon.

Jerseymilk: "Can I tell you something?"
B-kun: "What?"
Jerseymilk: "I see Fangirls."

I look at Dragon Ball as an entertaining story, I do not indulge in the fantasy of physically impersonating my favorite character from that story. That's just embarrassing.
Discussing the subject online with fellow fans feeds the geeky over-obsession. I will agree that twenty year olds watching and discussing anime is a bit geeky, but it's not like our discussions interfere with our physical lives outside the internet. Or I don't know about the rest of you, but my time on the internet discussing anime doesn't intervene with the runnings of my real life, because I know when to draw the line, and stop discussing stuff online so that I can go to work and pay rent.
Even to me, collecting everything Dragon Ball is also an over-obsession. It's one thing to buy the box sets, and perhaps memorabilia like shirts and a couple rare figures that you just happen to come by; but to actually search and spend vast amounts of money on merchandise and getting things shipped to you from Japan is walking the line of obsession. I'm not only talking about Dragon Ball, but other things as well. It's the same as being a serious Trekkie, or even a World of Warcraft geek.

Yes, but "The Simpsons" is a comedy.
