Page 379 of the newest Previews (comic shop ordering catalog) is a full page ad for the Vizbig DB and DBZ editions. It invites you to "change your perspective" and "see why bigger is better" (I swear I'm not making this up!) It states that each volume features
-three volumes in one
-exclusive cover designs
-color manga pages
-larger trim size
-color artwork
-bonus content
and more!
... which wouldn't be cause for alarm, except the next page has the actual solicit for the books, and what I hope is just a place-holder for the actual cover art:
On the upside, it says they're rated "T," which might indicate an uncut release, right?

Cool. If it's uncut the ugly covers won't bother me much.

I'm really hoping that we'll be getting the Kanzenban covers.

After seeing how bad the Kenshin covers are, I'm honestly not surprised. :/
Here's to hoping they're unedited!

They're not bad looking. I would have preferred the Kanzenban covers, but those will do fine.

Of course, with three tankoubon volumes worth of material per volume, there's only going to be around 14 of these total. Compare that with the 34 kanzenban. So even if they do use the kanzenban covers, they couldn't really use all of them. I notice that it lists 'color artwork' as well as 'color manga pages', so maybe they'll be including the kanzeban covers as extras? Or maybe some of Toriyama's other color artwork?

That makes sense.
I heard rumor there were big kanzeban-like books for Kenshin in Japan. Is that true?

I'm pretty sure there are Kenshin Kanzenban.
I woud like to see Kanzenban covers for VIZBIG DB/Z but considering that the volume numbers are so different I wouldn't expect to see them.

There are indeed... With gorgeous covers reminiscent of his more recent
Buso Renkin and
Embalming series.

'Bonus content'...'and more'?! So there's the basics, a bonus, and then even more?!

The secret bonus is now you don't have to worry about that $18 you just had to carry around with you.
I don't think VIZ is trying to trick us. Sure, a lot of it sounds like normal marketing spin... but that's the key word here:
normal. I doubt this is gonna be like FUNi or something. I doubt VIZ is going to wash out the outlines and crop each panel to appear more like a Frank Miller graphic novel (i.e. "cinematic" for those who don't know Miller).
They can generate their buzz. At the very least you know that these will be an omnibus of manga with larger pages and the colored pages back to their original form. If that doesn't sell it to you, I guess you'll just have to wait until May to see if it's got the other specific things you might want such as uncensored content or "and more".

Ugly covers. But as long as they're uncut, I'm happy. Colour pages would be nice too

Viz already used that artwork for the original monthly run of the manga years back. I remember the Dragon Ball one quite distinctively since it was the first one I ever bought: Part One - Issue Three. The Z one was somewhere in Part One - Issue Three through Six.

I'll pass on these volumes and import the Kazenban.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I have all of VIZ's original volumes (or, at least I will within the week) so I won't die if I miss out on this. However, depending on what I see this summer I might still get them.

I agree, I really only care about the editing and the paper and print quality, if these are Kanzenban quality, then for all I care they can commission some blind kids with no arms that hate Dragonball to do the cover art.
