So I finally got around to watching more of the episodes dubbed past the lameass Garlic Jr. filler and I must say, I can't believe that they didn't change the lines or have key people redub stuff. I know I shouldn't expect much but Damn! When I heard Vegeta say something to the effect of that you don't have to be pure hearted to become a Super Saiyan I almost cried. And every time Vale opened his mouth as Trunks it sounded so awkward that I could never take him seriously. It's good that he's gotten so much better but

. I guess he was trying too hard. I kinda feel sorry for the ones that do watch this dubbed actually. The redubbing has gone from being from fully to quasi to just plain lazy and insulting. Seriously, the script is still full of errors, and the acting somehow became worse than it was before when Faulconer's music turned off even though they're saying the same thing. I'm surprised the ones that do watch this dubbed are taking this in the ass er... stride like you are. I saw Magicbox's petition to Funimation to fix all of the dub errors in future sets, but I have a feeling that asking Funi to redub or fix anything else now is like asking them to undo the widescreen and restore the film to it's original state. I just don't think it's gonna happen considering what Season's 3 and 4 has showed us.

So Meh...this is probably either the worst set so far or maybe the most disappointing one. I know it's partially not Funi's fault since that's how they set the episodes up, but they really made a set that I'd rather just have 10-13 episodes rather than 30.

Well I see more and more dub fans complaining about how lazy the redubbing has gotten, but what do they do? They sit around and say,

"Oh but, it's not that big of a deal (completely disregarding the fact that one of the major points to buy these sets is supposed to be that Funi said that dub errors, silly slipups, and amateur acting mistakes would be fixed and then they start fixing absolutely nothing in Season 3 and beyond). I mean it's not really that big of a deal that Gero's the leader of the RRA and Tao's a General (even though everybody knows that Red is the leader and Tao's an assassin) amirite? It doesn't matter, We get the dub w/original BGM (even though it should've been used, I don't know, 8 years ago when these episodes were first dubbed into English)"

They can't redub the whole series. They just redubbed what made sense. I like that Goku wasn't redubbed from the Ginyu Saga and onward. I might not like that they kind of made Vegeta weird, but whatever.

And WHY couldn't they do that? There's nothing preventing them from redubbing it, just like they're redubbing One Piece. Actually, DBZ getting a One Piece-style redub would be kinda cool. (Meaning, if they gave us some ACCURATE translations rather than changing details around for no reason.)

I meant to say when it makes sense to redub. Like when the voices were horrible (Vegeta).

I doubt FUNimation would pay their cast to redub the entire thing.

About that, why is it that neither the uncut dub OR the subtitles ever refer to him as "God", even though that's what "Kami-sama" actually means?

I have a feeling that the cast is pretty much sick of voicing the same shit over and over again. (games come to mind)

And Corey, you know what I mean. I never said there was another Vegeta, but his voice was horrible when Chris Sabat started. Now you're just looking for crap to nitpick over in my posts.

Because it'd cause up uproar I'm sure. Having someone called "God" would make some religious fanatics declare war against FUNimation.

How did Viz handle it in the translated manga?

Not really.

You said FUNimation redubbed when it made sense, like when the voices were horrible (like Vejita), and I replied by asking if they hired someone else to do the voice, implying that Sabat is still horrible.

I definitely remember Kami being called "god" at one point, or at least refered to as "a god." It may have changed in the later DBZ volumes.

I actually prefer 'Kami-sama', because I've never really been convinced that Toriyama intended for the character to literally be God in the story. I'm not sure about the cultural connections or anything, but I think of 'Kami-sama' in DB as more of a divine position than anything else.

During Kami's first mentionings/appearances he is constantly referred to as "God" and on occasion "Kami-sama". In fact from what I remember Mr. Popo is primarily the one who calls him Kami-sama while everyone else for the most part call him God.

Far as i'm concerned,they can never redub the show. That's why i have subtitles. No out of place voices,no out of place script lines.

There are numerous instances and evidence, in the Japanese version at least, that they take the meaning of Kami-sama as the God. Kami sees everything, that goes on on the Earth, he knows all, and he lives in the Heavenly Realm (which is called Kami's Lookout in the dub). In DB when Goku and Karin were were talking about meeting Kami Yajirobe would always say things like "But Kami-sama(god) doesn't exist.". Mr. Satan also tried to repent to Dende after he was mean to him in the Boo saga.

It's clear that Kami is meant to be "God", but it's also clear he's not the only god.
