Laws should never try to parent children, which is what all censorship laws do. If you don't like what you see or hear, you aren't forced to view it. If you don't want your children to view it either, that's fine, don't let them.

A parent protects a child, not a government.

Though I agree with your "parents should take responsibility" message, Desire, allow me to be first to remind you of why we have foster care, orphanages and the Department of Human Services (Or whatever it's called wherever else it is . . . ). Granted... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... something... ... ... ... ... but.. . . . . . . . .

And I'm pretty sure Rugrats had a 'nakey' episode. Granted, it's not like there were genetils all over the place... but yeah, some elements of nudity are there in kids' shows in American cartoons, it's just that Dragonball has more... it's mostly used the same way, the only difference being that it also acknowledges that certain guys find something distracting about naked women. *shrug*

I don't want to go off on a rant here, my point was just that lawfulness should never be a reason for, or measure of, morality.

Ah, well, true. Yes. Carry on. Or move on if one syllable words are best.

... though I will admit that when I let my cousin watch the uncut Pioneer release of "Tree of Might" on my laptop, I conveniently obscured the screen for Gohan's post-Oozaru portrait. :(

Well, not to pry or start and argument, but what was so offensive or wrong about Gohan's little penis? Those three or four lines, what was it about them that you could not allow your cousin to watch? And this is all assuming your cousin is a girl - if she as a he, well, he's probably seen a penis before.

Yeah and I don't. I already said that I would just invoke whatever I deemed suitable for my kids and not any censorship program will stop that from happening. I'm pretty sure I know how much a child can take since I work to show people that American children should not be tried like idiots with their entertainment. I don't feel comforatble showing nudity of any kind to kids. End of story.
Vekurotto wrote:I really wouldn't be comfortable showing them this uncut and in Japanese until they at least reach 12-14.
And that, as I said, is just carrying on your mother's prudish attitude. Dragonball is a children's cartoon, there's absolutely nothing in it that's not suitable for a 9-year-old, and claiming there is is exactly what leads to ridiculous censorship of innocent material.[/quote]

No. When my kids turn my age that I am now, I just plain wouldn't care or react like how my mom did with the Lanfan situation even though I don't think you do. I've stated many times that DB is for children but many of the jokes, innuendos, and situations that are in the series I would not feel comfortable letting my children in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade know. In the end I have the last word if I want my children to watch it when they're 9 or when they are 12 or so. And really it's more than nudity, I want them to like the series at a level when they can understand events and many of the deeper meanings of the series better than they would at a young age. That's just me.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

I'm calling bullshit on that. Everyone, at the time, thinks that they'll never treat a child of their current age in such a condescending manner. But you will, and probably already have. How old are you now? Do you really think that by the time you have kids you'll really think that you're old to do everything you think you should be able to do now?

Yeah, he's a boy. I think I was more afraid of my parents than anything, which... doesn't make sense (I failed to mute Tullece's "Who the hell are you?" despite attempting to, and that would probably have had more of an impact, anyway. -.-). So in closing, I'm a loser. ^^

... Hmm...

The Littl' Bits

Maya the Bee

The Mysterious Cities of Gold

And quite a few others. Stopped airing them around 1993-1994.
Wow, according to Wikipedia, Masako Nozawa had a role in both Maya the Bee and the Mysterious Cities of Gold.
Knew about Mysterious Cities of Gold but didn't know she was on Maya the Bee. Knew she was on another one called Noozles that had the English voices of Lina Inverse and Ash Ketchum (I mean the real Ash, not the crappy new Ash) on it.

You don't see the problem with looking at a four year old's penis for entertainment?

I get the feeling in Dragonball, it's not so much "Heh heh, Penis..." as it is " he's naked" (*points to an episode of Farely Odd Parents where said phrase was beaten into the ground*).

Yes, but when the show has both young boy penis and such fighting, that is going too far my good friend! I demand digital underwear for all!
