Describe Dragonball

Post by Anonymous Friend » Tue Apr 08, 2008 3:25 pm

I was describing the Dragonball series to a friend of mine after he saw all the DVDs I've aqruired in the past year. As I was going through it I could see his attention waning and explained that there are a lot of things happen but at the same time there may be time when nothing at all happens.

This got me thinking: Is there a way to describe Dragonball with as little words as possible?

A Chinese themed, martial arts action adventure series that features comedy, super powerful fighters, and awesome energy blasts, which all follows a band of friends and villains all searching for 7 magic dragonballs that can grant the finder any one wish.

Eh, that's probably as few as possible.

A gag manga, transformed into an epic fight fest that migrates from Earth, to space, and finally to the heavens themselves.

Long periods of intense boredom punctuated by short periods of awesomeness.

Lmao, I don't think that would attract much attention towards the series. Honestly though? I agree.

Kid with tail grows up beating the crap out of bad guys.

I think that's about as short a summary as you can get. :P

"There once was a manga,
Starting on a small scale,
A fun adaptation
Of an old fairy tale.

It turned out quite nifty,
And the readers cried, "more!"
So the author continued,
Farther than he'd planned for.

The game escalated,
The fights became great,
Not even whole planets,
Could get out unscathed.

The good guys were valiant
Fighting to defeat wrong,
Their hearts were courageous.
Their hair was quite long.

The series continued
For quite a long time,
But soon became tedious,
Just like this rhyme.

It's true that all good things
Must come to a close.
Wish Toei had known that,
'Cuz GT kinda blows. >_>"

Mmm'kay, that was fun.

When I was a wee lass, I used to often describe it as "a great show about a kung fu monkey boy who flies around on a cloud and frequently gets naked." But that only really applies to the pre-Raditz stuff, since Kintoun and nudity both went the way of the Lunch at that point.

Kaboom, I'm putting your poem on my myspace blog. IT MUST BE SEEN BY OTHERS. With full credit to you, of course.

He (Gohan) is weaker. He has the fighting spirit of a wet noodle soaked in water until it barely resembles a noodle. A pebble is tougher than Gohan, because you could conceivably trip on a rock and stub your toe, while Gohan would yield like so much melted pudding. Vanilla pudding. Because he's too pansy-ass to have a strong flavor if he was pudding. Pure water has more flavor than hypothetical Gohan-pudding.

Isn't that like asking "What's Batman about?" ... "What's Superman about?" ... "What's Green Lantern about?"

All of the above (including Dragon Ball) go through different story arcs. Granted, DB didn't persist like the above mentioned. Each arc is a well written & drawn story, like any of the others mentioned. Granted, its not Shakespeare writing and its not Michelangelo drawing... but its good and its fun and that's all that matters.

I like the comment about long periods of waiting for short periods of awesomeness, but the I always felt the mange moved at normal pace (i.e. - that last 5 minutes in the Freeza fight felt like 5 to 7 minutes, not 8 episodes worth of time).

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Fun, awesome, occasionally violent + cute.
If shorter is needed, "awesome" is my pick.

I liked your DB-centric version of thhe Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air's theme song, Kaboom.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

It's just supposed to be a poem. You've been hanging out on you-know-where too much, I think, if Fresh Prince is the first thing that pops into your head when you read that.

I'm sorry, but certain parts sounded just like the Fresh Prince song when I was reading it in my head. And are you talking about The Vesti? Come to think about it, I do hang around there too much. I went from taking 3 years to get 3000 posts, and then when I started posting there and gained 7000 more posts in 10 months.

No, that's not where I mean. That "other place" that has a bizarre fixation on the Fresh Prince theme. >_>

But let's not get off-topic.

Oh, there. Well you were half right - that's Vesti's mortal enemy, although the anime fanboys on the Vesti are /b/tarded, if you know what I mean. To get back on topic, I'd say that Dragon Ball is a story about a guy with superhuman strength who, with his friends, fights evil villains.

I think DB and Z were great.

Dragonball was awesome because it starts as a funny story and from the point Kuririn got killed by Tambourine and Piccolo started, it turns slowly into the tragedy drama that everyone loves.

The bit that sucked about Z was the whole humans are useless thing, which was worse in GT, which was why I hate GT. :?

DBZ and DB had their good points, but GT was a racist show, misanthroppist really, turning all the humans into mind slaves in the Bebi saga and Goku leaving the earth was the worst part of GT, not to mention that it made Gohan and Goten look more like twins than brothers with an age gap for eleven years. :(

Dragonball was hilarious and DBZ was epic. :D
