This. I have a problem with this. Since when did you speak for everyone on the forums? Guess you haven't ever heard the phrase, "There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers."
I don't mean to speak for anyone but myself, I'm sorry if it came off that way.
But, also, there
are stupid questions. Questions are stupid based on context. Let's take jjgp's question as an example, used in different situations:
"I assume seiyuu means voice actor?" [in person, informal/off-the-cuff conversation]
Completely reasonable question. There's no reason I would expect him to know this word, and a quick clarification is no harm at all.
"I assume seiyuu means voice actor?" [in person, debate is stated to be about such a topic]
Here I would expect him to know what the word is, when he enters into a discussion who's title includes the word. I wouldn't go off on a diatribe about it, but answering the question would be accompanied by a mocking look.
"I assume seiyuu means voice actor?" [though immediate correspondence]
If this was an IRC chat, or I'm conversation, I would be more forgiving because it is expected that one would converse rapidly, leaving little time for research. Still, with more time for it than a personal interview I would expect some level of research.
"I assume seiyuu means voice actor?" [through non-immediate correspondence]
If there's no expectation that one would have to respond immediately, there's no reason one wouldn't first try to research the topic themselves.
"I assume seiyuu means voice actor?" [through non-immediate correspondence, debate/discussion about the topic itself, individual has no expectation to say anything at all]
Here's what we're actually dealing with. On an Internet forum, noone is expected to respond immediately, in fact, we expect a decent amount of thought to be put into each post, each comment should try to push the discussion forward somehow, this forum in particular has
rules about not posting pointlessly, and to take care for grammar and spelling, to search for older threads that may answer the question already. Further, jjgp had not posted in this thread before, there was no expectation for him to respond to anything, he should have been able to post something meaningful for his foray into the topic.
That's not to say the question itself couldn't have been mitigated. If he'd continued his post with another question, or with some insight into the topic, or
anything expect such a simplistic and, in this case, stupid question - I would have gladly responded quickly and cheerfully to it.
If he had written...

I've noticed that these VAs have been in these other shows, and blah blah

Is there a reason you use that term instead of just 'voice actor'? It seems elitest, and blah blah
But he didn't. His post was inane and lazy and pointless. I stand by my actions.
