Dragonball GT Season Sets

Post by Super 17 » Fri Apr 25, 2008 12:03 am

Has anybody heard of any news about DBGT being dubbed with the original music in 5.1 stereo mix like the Z ones?

None yet, they'll probably do it after they're done with Z, or least after about Season Six

I remember my Season Two set having a Funi insert, saying that DBGT would start being released sometime last November, with the "Lost Episodes" boxset. That obviously didn't take place, though.

Last I heard, they might come out this summer, but I haven't looked into it much. I do hope they come out soon, though. I'd like to get my hands on em.

That was just a boxset of the DVD singles.

I really hope they'll release them in the season set format. *crosses fingers for No cropped images* I'm actually quite excited to watch the entire series from start to finish no matter how terrible it may be. I wanna see it for the few 'quality' moments that it presents forth. I've only seen bits and pieces of the series throughout, and the entire Omega Shenron battle.

Man could people stop using terminology they obviously do not understand?

If you're going to call individuals out on using terminology incorrectly, atleast do that person a favour of telling him/her why it's being used incorrectly along with a quick description of why, and what that terminology actually means.

Not attacking you in any way of course, just sayin'.

There's one moment that I know for a fact I'll rewind over, and over, and over again. And thats where Videl walks up to Gohan and calls him "sweetie".

Also, #18's rage against Super #17 rocked as well.

But I digress. I really wanna see this happen soon. They could probably fit the whole series into one release, if you think about it.

It's just that the term makes no sense. A 5.1 audio mix has six channels (5+1=6) while 'stereo' mean 'dual' and in audio it refers to a 2 channel setup.

Unless he was trying to convey the idea that the English dub would be in 5.1 but would be mixed with the original stereo bgm, then I could see "5.1 stereo mix" making some sense, though for clarity it should've been written as "5.1/stereo mix" (though this ignores the fact that the original bgm is actually mono)

I would much rather have Dragonball season boxsets come out first (unless they already are and i just didn't notice).

Actually, I doubt Funi will re-release DBGT, and, after seeing how badly DBGT sold, I can't blame them.

You kidding? With as much as they've been milking the franchise, series-wise and movies, I wouldn't be surprised if GT is next up on their list for Season Set treatment. And just watch, making it 16:9 will make FUNi's original 4:3 saga sets all the more appetizing, yet make such future "Season" releasing profitable for those wanting GT cheaper and with a "dub w/t JP music" track. FUNi's exploiting every hole in the franchise they can thrust inward to. If original DragonBall does make it to Season Set format, odds are we North Americans will still be screwed on the whole lack of the first 13 episodes, plus the allure of a "dub w/t Japanese music" is already present on this series' original DVDs, so it'd be basically a wasted strategy to make them wide-screen as well.

Do you have any evidence for that? I've never heard that at all, and I don't recall any GT-specific sales figures ever being released.

Agreed although i doubt they would leave the first 13 episodes out again for the 'definitive' Box set releases.

I'd rather them re-release the 2 disk sets over a cropped Season set release.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Sheehan then moved on to the enduring Dragon Ball franchise, saying that the first Dragon Ball Z remastered edition was the #1 seller of the year for FUNimation, and that they will be remastering the movies and the specials, starting with a special edition of the 2 uncut TV specials The History of Trunks and Bardock: Father of Goku. It will be in tin collection packaging on one DVD. The remastering was taken from new 35mm prints with cleaned up picture and sound. There will also be revised English dialogue and Japanese audio in 5.1 surround sound. As for the tin collection packaging, Sheehan joked, "We found out that shiny equals sales. Who knew?" This disc should be available on February 19, 2008.

Next was the Dragon Ball Z Season 4 DVD boxed set, which will include the complete Garlic Jr., Trunks, and Androids sagas. The remastered edition will pack 32 episodes on 6 discs, and be available on February 19, 2008. He also made a point to talk about the "Marathon Play" special feature, which removes all the recaps throughout the series, playing only the introduction, all the episodes, and then the end credits. Sheehan quipped that the new feature would "save yourself, like, a day" in watching the series, and added that he hopes to see it on more of FUNimation's features in the future.

FUNimation was one of the few anime companies at the New York Anime Festival that is releasing high-definition material on Blu-ray DVD. Sheehan started with the Dragon Ball Z: Broly on Blu-ray, which puts 2 Broly features on 1 disc. Sheehan asked the rhetorical question of, "Why buy a Blu-ray edition of a 20-year old show?" and answered himself by saying that the show looked, "Beyond pure...like a cel animation framed on my TV." However, during the Q&A, Sheehan said that they had no plans for more Blu-ray or HD DVD at this time, but that they were satisfied with their results for Dragon Ball Z. He also said that they were settled on the Blu-ray format for now.

During the Q&A, Sheehan mentioned that the movies for Dragon Ball Z will be in special editions, and that they are working to get Dragon Ball Z on iTunes. He added that doing Dragon Ball DVD releases is harder, since the rights to the first 13 episodes are still not held by Funi. as a result, he had no plans to announce for Dragon Ball at the moment.

I'm sure you guys already know about the Trunks and Burdock release that's coming, but we get a little more information here regarding packaging and confirmation of "revised English dialogue."

Big coverart of the release can be viewed here: http://www.aaaanime.com/item/DVDs/FN03889.html

As for the "revised English dialogue," I didn't really see confirmation on whether the option to watch the dub with the Japanese music will be included. All he says is that "revised English dialogue and Japanese audio in 5.1 surround sound" will be available, but we don't know what he means by "Japanese audio." Does he mean the Japanese language track or Japanese music in the dub? Since the Broli Blu-Ray release lacked this option, I'm a little worried.

Also, for those of you who were worried about who would be voicing Gohan, this was confirmed by a Daizex forum member: "I've confirmed future Gohan is still (Dameon) Clarke in the remastered version. The narrator is (Kyle) Hebert though."

Also, here's a few more things to look out for, confirmed on the Daizex forums:
- DBZ movies 1 & 2 will be released on both DVD and Blu-Ray as a double feature on May 27, 2008. These will be "remastered."

- A DBGT season 1 set is scheduled for June 10, 2008. It is unknown right now if these will be "remastered" or not.

- DBZ: Season Five is scheduled for May 27, 2008.

Take these dates with a grain fo salt for now. This is still very early information. I would wait until FUNimation officially announces these things to completely celebrate.

Anyway, I'm still not going to invest money in getting the season sets until I see original aspect ratio releases with proper remastering, but I'm really tempted to buy the Trunks & Burdock specials, especially considering I haven't seen the latter yet. If the option to watch the dub with Japanese music is confirmed, I'll be all over that release. I refuse to invest money in multiple season sets with 291 cropped episodes, but I'm sure I can lay down a few bucks for one release with 2 television specials. Yay for hypocrisy!

If a dub with Japanese music track is confirmed for the movie 1 & 2 re-release, then I'll be over those as well. It'll be cool to get something that's actually intendedto be cropped, and if the remastering annoys me too much, I'll have my 4:3 releases to keep my company.

I might pick up the GT set, but only if it remains fullscreen and the standard things are included (dub with Japanese music, revised dialogue, proper openings/endings, etc.).

Overall, regardless of whether these releases turn out to be good or bad, it sure looks like we've got some exciting months ahead!
