Honestly speaking, I see no reason to buy this release. Seeing as I'm planning to either buy a Dragonbox The Movies{They show up on Yahoo Japan Auctions every week}, or get the singles as they are released. I already have the subtitles for my 4 movie singles, so I'll just keep buying up the older movie releases at cheaper prices.

This post is going to be super long and I know that someone will hate it. BUT, I'm just going to show some of the comparison pics from the 4:3 FUNimation version, and the new "Remastered" version.

If the colours weren't so dark, I'd snatched 'em up. HD Dragon Ball would be sweet.

I don't know if there's something mentally wrong with me, but I actually like the look of those movie's widescreen. Maybe it's because they were drawn, full well knowing that they'd have black bars on them for the cinema release and so compensated for that, but either way, it almost looks better.

I have yet to buy a single full season, remastered set yet, and am not a purist, so it doesn't much bother me.

Truth be told, the only reason I'm collecting the Season Sets is because once I have one part of something, I have to have the entire thing. I got Season 1 because I had no choice. Why? They canceled the Ultimate Uncut Editions!!! But hey, the silver lining is now I have everything that FUNimation ever released of DBZ (including the Saban/Pioneer/Ocean dub stuff), and I get to put in a 4:3 DVD into my PS3 and a "Remastered" into my DVD player (or vice versa), and make the TV show the 4:3 and make my surround sound play the "Remastered". So I can have that new dub with Japanese music track playing, while (hopefully, and it takes a couple of tries) synced up to the 4:3 picture.

Actually, the first french movie set wasn't really remastered...
They said it was going to, but it did not turn out so.

More a quasi-remaster (DVNRed to hell), but I count it.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, I had to work. I have a NVidiaGeForce8500GT. I'm gonna try it out soon.

Update- I just tried hooking it up to my computer to capture with Pinnacle, and it was a no go. If there is another way, the only thing I can think of is to take pics of it on my camcorder while its playing on the TV.

I agree, and hell, people are buying them. Funimation is a business remember. It's the logical move to take...You had the Original Dub, they wanted Voice consistency so they Re-Dubbed it (Close to a decade later). Now with their Re-Mastered stuff, it's only logical to have matching movies.

This would probably be the best Dragonball release in America so far, I can't wait to get it! The colours look bloody brilliant, and the quality is just great.

And this is DVD, not Blu-Ray. I don't see the point of getting Blu-Ray for a cartoon to be honest. It's drawn. It's not like I can see detail in the background like texture of trees and stuff. It's not like it pops out and looks real. I've seen Broly in Blu-Ray (pictures on here) and it looks the same as DVD.

Yeah if you have a upscaling ps3 and a HD TV, you can make the quality make look like the bluray quality. I just need to see the caps of Movie 1 and 2 on blueray.

DBZ as you could tell is hardly representative of the benefits animation gains from being in HD, especially considering its treatment. Check out Tekkon Kinkreet, Jin Roh, or Paprika on Bluray if you get a chance and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Animation may not have the same detail as a live action film, however it can consist of incredibly solid lines and colours that can, on an upconversion from standard to higher definitions, leave those details looking poorluy bled, washed out, and more noticable to things such as DVD defects from not having enough bitrate etc (things like macroblocking and such).

I mean if you only have an old crt TV capable of 480i then the difference is negligible for you, but cartoons do have their place among 1080p HD. DBZ might just not be one of them.

However the Bluray versions in motion and on a proper setup would definantly have their place as they would have benefits. TV series though... it'd just make the flaws look more noticable unfortunantly.

Well I do have a PS3 and an HDTV... Just to let you know, the upscaling doesn't make it "look like Blu-Ray". It makes it look better, but not like Blu-Ray. If it did, then there would be zero point in PS3 pushing Blu-Ray now would there?

I must say, the Funi remastered one looks the best out of all of them. Even though the Dragon Box one os obviously how it's supposed to look, I think Funi made it even better IMO. The D-Box pic looks sort-of washed out, if you will, and bleached. I can't really describe it. With that said, however, the remastered and Dragon Box versions beat the shit out of the UUC and Pioneer releases. Good God, the colors in those two don't even resemble the Dragon Box in the least bit. Sure, this will be my second Dead Zone copy (I currently have the UUC one) but I'm definitely getting this.

It's at the bottom of the first page along with many others. For bigger pictures you'll have to ask theoriginalbilis, he owns the movies, not me.

*Edit: Turns out the "Blu-Ray" shots on my previous post and on the first page are not Blu-Ray, they are DVD. Sorry if this led to any confusion.
