Amazon just sent me mine today, opened it up and immediately noticed the cursing was gone, I can live with them covering Bulma's tits or whatever, but the whole "Curse you" thing totally ruins the whole thing for me.

Won't be picking up the rest until we learn more about this hardcover release.

I assume that's for DBZ, and not DB? Curse you? I knew "revised dialogue" couldn't be good...
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Y'know I always liked "curse you" as a substitute for cursing. It's less corny then "heck" and "darn" in my book and holds a decent amount of anger. Same goes for "blast." I'm not sure what it is about those lines but I think them to be decent enough. Maybe it was all the Disney I watched as a child.

Saying "curse you" is one thing... I say it all the time. :P Using it as a replacement for already establishing dialogue is a whole other can of worms though. I don't see it being necessary to further child-proof what they did in the tankôban.

But I'm a hypocrite because I'll still buy it. If my company already paid for it, I see no reason not to boost our manga sales. That doesn't mean I won't complain about it (like that's ever helped...). I just get so frustrated that other SJ series (and other Viz titles in general) get away with so much more. Is it just because many of their other series air on Adult Swim in anime form (I saw "crap" in the first five volumes of Bleach than any cussing in Dragon Ball)? Unacceptable, I say!

You'd think with the show airing uncut w/ full-on violence, gohan peen, and cursing without any moms really batting so much as an eyelash would make Viz loosen up a little.

I got both volumes, I've never read the "Dragonball" manga so I don't know if it's censored or not, don't really remember much if any cursing in the first few volumes anyway.

Maybe this hardcover is actually the Kanzenban...

Or maybe I have to cry myself to sleep as I purchase 26 tankôban from Ebay.

Really, is it so hard to just translate the fucking words? I mean, at least Funimation has to make them fit with the mouth movements, but all you have to do is change the damn font size and to fit it in the bubble! Really? Really?

-42 for effort. My scale is out of five. Have fun suffering from incompensateable failure, Viz.

The kanzenban all have 200+ pages. Kanzenban vol.14, which would correspond to the start of DBZ, has 217 pages, plust title page gallery and what-not.

He asks for a kiss in the VizBig, which I assume is what he asked for in the original release as well. He manages to say "a nice big ki-" before Bulma bonks him.

at this point, Funi has done a better job handling the anime than Viz handles the manga, I never in my life thought I'd be saying that.

From what folks are saying I guess it's a good thing I'm too cheap to buy these as I have all the manga up to vol. 22 of DBZ.

That's odd... (on page 374 in DragonBall BigViz Vol 1) Master Roshi says " ...If I might be permitted to lay my eyes on those magnificent boobs ?" Why would "Kiss" be not ok but "boobs" is\are.

Recall... he's being cut off by Bulma before he can finish his sentence. And the fact that Dragonball is a smaller niche than DBZ, so remains slightly less censored.

None. Before the manga chapters, there's just a table of contents. The chapters run from pages 5 to 217 (I'm not really sure why page 5 is even counted as such, since it seems to at most be the third page counting the table of contents page and its blank backside, but I guess it's a publishing thing). After that it's the title page gallery, which doesn't have page numbers. The kanzenban aren't really big on bonus content.
Undercooked Sausage wrote:Yeah, "kiss" was censored to "ki-" you guys.
Wait, so first they censored the line from "Could I touch your breasts just a little bit?" to "May I have a nice big kiss" in their initial release, then further censored it to "May I have a nice big ki-"? Weird.

Okay then. So what could the 208 pagecount for this version mean? Regular DB tank #1 is at 184, so that's... 20-something extra pages? It doesn't match up to anything else. Though as a "Collector's Edition," there's a good chance it may include more bonus material than usual.

In the hardcover edition they will probley change it to "May..." just to be on the safe side. :?

My vol. 1 has the kiss line said only half-way before Bulma bonks him. Makes sense though.

I just got vol. 1 and 1 of DB and DBZ, and they look uncut to me. Master Roshi still asks to see Bulma's undees, and Goku's penis is still intact. I have the original Vol. 2 from VIZ of DB (yes the big books) and on the same picture Goku is passed out and there's a flower covering his junk. Well in the VIZ BIG versoin the flower is not there. So I'd assume these are uncut, unless you want to complain about name changes or whatever. But seriously, wanting these uncut that bad to see Goku's penis? Common guys.
